not nessacerialy but for most new game su do how ever the OE version come with a "No UMD" mode which allows some games to be played with out the need of a UMD!

WOW!!I didn't know that it would work without a UMD!
At least some games can...yeah..
My problem is - after plugging my psp in to charge at a house I later learned had a dodgy power supply my battery and UMD drive got fried. Battery has been replaced, however I was hoping that later firmware would run more games with 'No UMD' enabled.

I have 3.02OE-B (flashed) and am upgrading to 3.40OE-A, however the winstaller says "Previous custom firmware users: Make sure your kernel is set to 1.50 in recovery mode. It's under configuration, then set the homebrew kernel to 1.50."

Since I'm already flashed @ 3.02 I can't run 1.50 - do I really need to with this config?

Will I be able to run any more non UMD games with the later firmware anyway? (or will I need to fork out $$ and get my drive motor replaced)

cheers

thomo

Well, after much frustration I downgraded back to CFW 3.10 OE-A. A lot of my CSOs & even some of my ISOs just wouldn't run in 3.40 OE. All of the bios (AKA recovery menu) were set right... just couldn't get them to work for some reason.

If I have to choose between iso/cso's or full resolution vids I choose iso/cso's.

Grrrrr...

Ok I went back down to 3.10OE-A and my ISO/CSO's still don't work. Ones that did work before I upgraded to 3.40OE-A. What gives?

Does anyone have a link on how to do a clean install of the custom firmware? I installed 3.40 without removing 3.10.. then installed 3.10 again without removing 3.40... is that my problem?

Please help

foxrider,

You're correct, you need to set your kernel to 1.50 before installing the new custome firmware. I think this is where you're confused.. you need to set the kernel to 1.5, not revert back to 1.50 firmware.

To set your kernel to 1.50:
1 - shut off PSP.
2 - turn on PSP, holding down the right shoulder button for 3 seconds.
3 - this brings up the recovery menu, under configuration you'll find the option to change your kernel. Change it to 1.50.
4 - now exit out of the recovery menu and your PSP will reboot, now running the in 1.50 kernel mode.
5 - From here you can install the new firmare.

Honestly, I'm not sure if upgrading to 3.40 will increase your "No UMD in the drive" compatibility issues.

FYI - You can buy a new UMD Laser assembly for under $25 shipped off ebay. I'm going to be getting one myself soon and from what I've research replacing the assembly doesn't look too complicated, we'll see.

I'm bringing my PSP 2.60 to a person to be downgraded next week, is there anything to prevent in from being updated to Sony 3.40 by accident when your connected to the internet?

Thanks!

nirbus i dont know what you mean but it doesnt update atomatically you have to make it update, unless you mean remove the network update icon do you? and why dont you just downgrade it yourself?

I'd do it myself, but for $35 I will get 40 games (as long as I have a 'legal' copy.

The first time I connrected to the internet, it asked my if I wanted to upgrade, once I'm at 3.40 oe-a will it still ask me? I'd hate for my son to upgrade me to 3.40 sony by accident. Thanks.

Thanks!
