well buddy, wehn u pay for 500 for a system u shud be able to do wht ever u want to it. its like buying a car or anything in that matter. M$ has nuff money and really its just pisses every1 else off b.c like me so many others actually d.l shit off MP and pay for live. i dont no wtf M$ is complaining about its not like der gunna go backgruped.

i did pay 500 for mine, and no you cant, not when you connect to THEIR network to play THEIR games. and it is like buying a car to a certain extent, but you agreed to xbox live TOS (terms of service) saying that you agreed not to go online with a modded console and that if you did then you stood a chance of being banned. and MS is complaining because you went into a legally binding contract and you broke that contract. thats why your banned. so again, its your fault.

If I do not play backups on my modded 360, will i still get banned if i play an original online with my modded firmware? And if so, can i just flash it back to the original?

Best bet is flash it back to orginal and get a chip with bypass circuit. It's very likely MS is doing a firm scan in which case it don't matter if your playing copied or retail you're still going down.

i havn't played on xbox live in a long time or updated my xbox version since then, if i reset my firewire back to factory or whatever would that make it so i wouldn't get banned? I don't mind using retail versions.

M$ ARE FRIGN RETARD...HAVE FUN LOSING MONEY CUZ NO1 GUNNA GET LIVE BITCHES. ther will be sum other scam to play online. ill leave that to the hackers

Christ, some people are stupid. Do you seriously think MS will care about what, a small minority of people who have modded drives? All the legitimate players will still pay for live, so don't make yourself look like an idiot by saying no one will get it.

What? I really don't know what you're saying, man. haha.

It doesn't matter if MS has enough money. There's obviously more to it than that. It's not just what MS wants. Don't think for a second that game developers haven't put the pressure on them to crack down on modified consoles.
It also looks bad for future relations with existing and potential game developers. If you were a developer, would you want to pour your heart and soul into a game and release it for a console that you knew people could modify and get your game for the price equivalent of fish and chips?

People shouldn't complain. Everyone knew the ban would come eventually, and now that it has, there's no point haranguing MS. They waited patiently and dropped the ban hammer a few days into the Halo 3 beta, perfect timing by all accounts.
Anyone who got a modded 360 knew what they were getting themselves into. Tough luck; don't whine. If it's that important, go out and buy a new console and recover your gamertag and Xbox Live account.

Personally, I'm going to steer clear of Live and hope that the hacking scene produces some miracle work-around. At least we can still play back-ups off-line.
It would have been interesting to see MS completely brick consoles detected to have been modified. Imagine the pandemonium quickly turn to fury among the bands of those affected. There would be protests and attacks and law suits aplenty. I guess MS aren't that daring or cruel though; very kind of them to let us recover our gamertags and paid Live subscriptions on new consoles.

i think it time we make our own software for our own LIVE service through pc which is easier then the other xlink and stuff and we don't have to pay and is faster and best of all doesn't ban us! and having all the game on their would help a lot.

and ya, obviously i saw it coming... and i figured it would be around the time of Halo 3. Im glad im not really a halo or any shooter game obsessed. I'm fine with playing season modes offline in sports games. Microsoft did not do this to make more money or not even because they were "losing" money. they did it simply because it wasn't fair to those who were spending alot of money, and because we violated terms.... i havent even gotten banned yet cuz i havent signed into live lately.. im gunna wait a few days

Seriously I don't wanna be a drag but all of you could have avoided this if you just bought a Chip. Anything that can be switched off can't be detected, thats just common sense. Did you really think MS was blind to all the firmware hacks and playing copied games online WTF were you thinking they just flag your account and wait for the kill switch.

Im not seeing any reports of this problem - It could be possible; but if the xboxlive has been banned on that console - its linked to your gamertag as well.

Let the truth uncover.

they are banning hardware(console), not accounts.[/quote]I know its not the accounts - im talking about that xboxlive on the "banned" console wont work on live anymore unless u got another 360 handy.

Yeah, that would be more interesting than bricked consoles. There'd be blood, possibly even wars.

To be honest, I thought they might actually wait for the full version of Halo 3 before banning.
I haven't signed it yet either. I was playing pretty late last night, must've just missed the ban; either that or they haven't started banning Australians yet. Imagine if they just targeted Americans lol.

lol. Every time I read that it makes me picture Bill Gates or that Nelson guy flicking a switch and letting off a nuke.

I got a chip and I'm still rocking. Keep in mind I've never ever played a copied game online nor have I ever turned my chip on while connected. So they've never flagged me.

There is a theory flying around that 360 games contain unique IDs much like PS2 games' DNS IDs, thus if 100 people are using the same ID they all get banned, problem arises when people also rent games.

you know... I find it EXTREMELY odd, that the bans are ONLY being posted about the newer firmwares that were meant to protect us agianst the spring update. Like no one posts about a sammy with xtreme 4.2 fw being banned. Would it be pure genious of them to make the FW to see how many pple fall for it and get caught red handed? Its just a stupid theory I have LOL. Also I read about the key id games have and it would totally make sense if they detected to GoW discs with the same key at the same time and decided to ban them LOL. Kinda like WC3 on bnet you cant use the same cdkey same time. Also I think with the spring update what if it auto-detected a backup or FW hack already on the system regardless of being on XBL and auto flagged itself so when you go online M$ knows right away and adds you to there banning list. All this is random theories from me so don't flame. Just think about it and add your 2 cents.

Has anyone heard reports of a Hitachi 0078 drive being banned yet? When people come on and say "ive been banned" without giving details it makes compiling the data to find the cause much harder.
