I have the samsung drive - not sure what FW but Ihave been playing Rainbow 6 for the past 3 hours on live with no issue. Go I can only wish that this particular drive/FW does not get detected. But my hopes are slim.

I'd be surpried if any drives could survive this but if it helps my 59 Hitachi with the 2.4 firmware has been banned.

A quick question, if I take the hard drive off a banned console and put it onto an unmodded one it should work fine and not ban that one shouldn't it?

I know it might sound a stupid question but i'd rather risk looking stupid than mess up my friends Xbox.

i think your console is banned not your xbox live gamertag like the xbox 1 but i may be wrong

looks like i might have to fork out another £250 as shops wont take back the modded 360

Just bought a barebones second hand system for use online.

Screw Microsoft, we'll have the last laugh anyway. Just keep your modded box for offline play and a buy a cheap second hand one for online.

I only play about 2 games online anyhow (although frequently).

its just the console (mac address i think) thats been banned...

your gamertag is fine.. you can port that (and content on the HDD) over to your friends/spare box and play away with originals.

lookin like all drives will succumb to this bad boy ban hammer!

Its not your MAC address thats banned, if that were true you could just get a wireless card. Its your console ID number which is unique to each box.

In short were screwed, they never solved this for the first Xbox.

Your profiles however are not banned, they will work on another 360.

Guess thats are silver lining :)

wouldn't like to see the repercussions of selling on eBay or taking a modded console back to a GAME store (where i believe anything that is retured is accompanied by you filling out your personal details on a form).

i'm just gonna grab a second core console & just use that one for Live play

Well i just did a quick call to xblive/ms tech support and got 2 very varying answers for my query regarding my 360:

1: Your console is banned for a week, its an error in the system and in a week's time your console will be eligible ot play on XBL again (might be time to flash to original firmware & put a flip switch on)

2: Your console is not banned, your xbox live account is having problems connecting as we have had a big error with xbox live which has locked out many accounts and we are having many calls like yours today, this operator seemed VERY eager to get me off the line asap especially when i told her that my Z code has changed from 0000-0000 (it was 0000-0000 at 1am this morning) and was quizzing her about what it means & why.

So from calling that bunch of muppets i feel about as reassured as can be! no, really, i do! *insert rolling eyes emoticon*

The info on my XBLIVE failed message is just the big empty blue box, no text saying you have broken the ToS etc.. so i'll be interested to see what happens, at worst a core is £180.

Well, how could i have predicted that this thread was coming. From what i read it is not just Hitachi drives and not just people who downloaded the beta of Halo 3.
This may be posted already but i do not plan to read through 6 pages.
"With the amount of posts we see on our forums ... it's clear, Microsoft decided to start banning Xbox360 with modified firmwares today (both Hitachi-LG and Toshiba-Samsung drives).

While it's the same release date as Halo3 beta, it seems that people who didn't download Halo3 also get banned. They probably detect backup discs (and not the modified firmware) when you play 'em online (not confirmed yet).
Even people using the new firmwares with disc-jitter added get banned, so it looks like Microsoft found another way to detect it. However we also see reports of people with modified firmwares that are not banned (yet). Microsoft is known to ban with delay though, so it'll probably take a while before we got a good view on who got banned for what reasons.

Just like on Xbox1 it looks like Microsoft bans the console unique ID (serial), not the LIVE user. Microsoft will not allow anyone to login on LIVE on a banned console.
Many people on the official xbox.com forums also claim they got banned but didn't have a flashed firmware ... we'll have to see how that story develops in the coming hours and days"

No one knows yet if it is an instant banning or if they are somehow at the moment recording in a database who they detect for a delayed banning of some sorts. Which sounds logical as they do not have enough time in the world to ban all modded consoles on the same day.
I have been online with mine the past two days and had no problems. But i can figure that my time will come. Until then i might as well enjoy the time i have left.

Well meybe the reason is that people are downloading the beta with copied crackdown games. or maybe its just people playin crackdown with a pirated game. im not banned got a MS-28 with 53.a firmware.
and have not yet played my crackdown backup and im not banned.
maybe its just crackdwon.

well im happy i got a sammy from the reapair center when i sent back my hitachi.

well all in all i wouldn't play any cracdown on a modded xbox cause that could be the reason.

I've been banned so to speak, got a samsung drive, never played crackdown, no interest in halo beta, so sadly its not none sammys, or crackdown only :(

Like i posted above. It is not just narrowed down to a certain drive or a certain game at this point. I personally have a Samsung still running Xtreme 5.2 on it. I have crackdown but the disc has never been in my machine. And i also have no interest in Halo 3. And SO FAR my console has been fine online as of last night at 11PM EST. But i am not arrogant enough to think i am somehow safe.
All MS would have to do is set up a database that they could record the console ID of anyone detected playing any backup online. Then they could systematically go through that list banning them. No way they could even come close to banning everyone with a modded console in one day. So if your modded you might as well do one of three things.

1. unplug the ethernet cord and hope and pray that a new firmware will be able to avoid the ban (probably going to take a long time for that)

2. Play and have fun until MS bans you so not all your money is wasted. Then say Screw MS and screw XBL and just play offline.

3. Buy an unmodded system and some games that you play online and keep the modded one for offline play (for those richie rich folks amoung us)

HAHA, do you guys have K-mart in America? Oh, man they're stupid. For a while I was buying their games, finishing them and taking them back. I would ask for a refund and they would say sure. I'd hand over the game. They wouldn't even check to see if the disc was in there, let alone for scratches as any sensible store might, and then they would give me a slip of paper to sign my signature.

One time I signed as Frodo. The next time I looked at the name-tag of the person serving me and signed as them.

Good times at K-mart's expense. Serves em right for having such bad business sense. I heard from a guy on the inside that they are more moronic than they seem: he said they make fake announcements over their PA systems, ordering around non-existent guards to uphold a sense of security they only wish they had.

I would be going with option 2...but with Forza 2 just around the corner, i'm going to end up with being Option 3! Expensive month this, new car last week, new digicam on weds, nintendo ds yesterday and now this!

i know that no one is "safe" from this ban, but why is it that i can put a burned copy of crackdown in and go straight online and play the beta with no issues? been doing it for 2 days now and i just turned my xbox on to see and im still not banned. i have heard little to nothing about MS28 drives being banned. i have seen maybe 3 people say they were banned and they had x53. im using x52b and no issues here. just wondering and i know that no one here is a MS tech so they cant fully answer it but maybe someone can shed some light on it.
