The "unmoddable" Wii is here, now what do I do??

Just bought a Wii from Zellers in Canada. After I opened it up, I discovered its the rumored new "unmoddable" Wii. Now what do I do? I've got a WiiKey ready to go and are there are work around? Check the pictures below.

Couldn't you just use a fine tip soldering iron, and solder the legs back together! I mean ya, That would be Damn Hard, but would it work? I really don't know! I'm just making a suggestion! Have you installed the Wiikey, and see if it works anyways?

Yikes they actually exist!
I have been reading that was a hoax.
I could solder that back together but it would be VERY tricky, and would take my special iron, I'v been soldering since I was like 10, so not to beat my own chest but I've done some pretty carzy stuff in tight spots.
Granted this is not impressive soldering for tiny stuff, but it was CRAZY doing this mod, and I was dizzy from the fumes!!!

it looks like on your chip, there is just a gap between where the pins were cut that could be bridged together pretty easily. the only other picture i saw had no contacts directly on the chip and had to be grinded away with a dremel to connect the missing legs:

Yes but where those soldering spots lead to are removed so the "signal" does not get received.

but if u follow the pads back they co to the cut of pins so the pads have nothing going to them

I just figured they modded those IC legs so you couldn't solder to them anymore. Didn't realize they didn't make a connection to the IC leg anymore.
I was wondering why they would do that plus keep the soldering points still there.
Now I wonder how often the existing Modchips will be updated since the sales are defiantly going to probably drop till they find a work around.
Below is a link that has photos of a guy that supposedly successfully installed a Modchip. He took a dremel and cut the plastic of the chip that was around the IC legs that where cut off. Go to the link below...

looks like dremeling the D2B chip is the only way to mod it now.
Before that, I will dig out an old network card and dremel the chip on there to see if it does any damage to the card.
Wish me luck guys and thanks for all the information. Havn't really make up my mind yet but I will post the update if I did it.

stuntman_, edit your sig to conform to forum specs ASAP as your's is at about 73k not 50k.
2. An image-only signature should be less than 50kb in size, and be at most 500 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall.

So it doesn't look like the system is "unmoddable"! You can still mod it, but it will be a little more difficult to do!

ehh ok whatever, delete my post lol
if you can do it yurself, since the mods think some ppl dont need help,
but no dremel required jus solder to whats left the the IC leg and use some type of expoxy or something to hold the wires in place after soldering

I agree with M37R01D! You can just solder back the legs, it will just be a little difficult! If you want to use a Dremel and cut it up, that's your idea! It will just take more time to modify these systems now!

Maybe I didn't take a clear picture, but there is no leg left. The three missing legs are cut off flush with the side of the D2B chip. There are only three tiny dots visible from the size of the chip. I will see if I can solder three super fine wire to those three dots without bridging them, however, it seems grinding the chip will make it much much easier to solder.

i kno you need to solder to the stubs that are left
these boards have been seen for about 2 weeks now

not that thier are special instructions, but u need to solder to them bits of leg that is left which is very difficult for an unexperienced modder

ok, i have not taken mine apart yet.
2 questions on the mod.
is this the bottom of the optical drive?, if so is the drive on a standard ide or sata interface?
if so chances are its based off of a retail slot loading dvd drive, you could try to get that drive model (providing there is some sort of id marks on it) and force flash the wii drive's firmware on it. (there are many tutorials on how to copy optical drive firmware off of the drive right on this site, just search)
most of the slot loading drives are made by pioneer, and the laptop ones by panasonic.
but its probably easier to try to solder to the studs on the chip first
these are just my thoughts on it, these are just possible suggestions and should be treated as such.
