WOW the pics of the solder job you all out there have done to get around the cut pins do no justus until a person open up their Wii and see really what you are soldering to. That is a supper tite area. Well now I need to practice a bit on some old PC Motherboards. Props to those how do these everyday.

Yes, that reminds me of my ps2 mod the chip was like 1.5in by 1in and then the pins were like 2cm...i was shocked.
As with Wiis, you might think having 1mm soldering points are/arent too hard, but then u might have to frustrate with the solder not sticking to the metal without flux, and u will drop globs of soldering on the pins and then u will need desoldering wick or something similar.

Unfortunately i found this out after i ordered my wiikey. Is it even possible to develop a mod chip that works without these contacts? Or even better, to have an update for the wiikey?

Also. After i opened my wii, the news channel could not download any more news even though my internet connection was established and all my wireless settings were the same. Is there a thread on how to fix this? I have searched for it to the best of my abilities

Thanks,

mine had no stubs sticking out.
Yours was probly already mounted and they cut the legs leaving a stub.
on mine, I think the chip wasn't mounted yet and they moved those 3 legs up and down untill they broke off, because there was NO stub to solder to.
I've done several already with the same method. Although it looks as if there is no contact, there is. If you flux and tin, you can make a nice solid connection.

Another cut job. No grinding required.

Those connections look great, but they are poor contact connections and not secure to begin with...also it's on a drive to boot.

Fast easy connections though ....Have had 3 fail on me so far and wondering how many more of the ones I've done this way....so have gone back to the dremel method....so far all(alot) problem free

. However, the best method to date is still to secure to the contacts inside the chip...no data or contact problems.

kinda academic though, since the next batch arriving in a week or so are not moddable "D2C" chipped Wii's

I have another variable: The solder pads do match up. It appears one is missing. There are four in a square and one hanging off the top, farthest from the chip. The one off to the right, which connects to the Wiikey, isn't present. Anyone have some ideas about resolving this?

Should connect to the 5th pin of the drive controller chip. Use this as a guide.....

I'm sorry to hear that. I guess maybe some do it better than others. I've had no returns or complaints yet.

No you cannot buy replacement drives. Unless you get lucky and can find a trashed Wii with a good drive on ebay. What exactly is it that broke? Its best if you can post a picture if possible.

Could someone be so kind as to post a picture of a Wiinja Deluxe install on a cut legs Wii... I'm not as "experienced" as it seems the majority of you are but I'm trying to learn and better understand the mod and which wires go to which cut legs etc. The picture about 3 posts prior is great for Wiinja wire info but I want to insure I'm looking at the right thing.

although wiikey is a chip that has aloty of sales, i wouldn't think i would get a "real" one. They said the update was almost done when they first released their chip. then they said they had hard drive failure n lost all the news. then NOW they finally said they are a leaked beta (1.9b) released around the net. its also said by many ppl on the forums that it worked on the clone wiikey.

well of course it works on a "Clone" chip here I hear this way to often--------- Clone: a person or thing that duplicates, imitates, or closely resembles another in appearance, function, performance, or style---------

The clone chips are clones there is no difference whatsoever in the matter, And i'm willing to bet the same manufacture makes all the clones just one company provides a sticker, anyways if you are convinced on brand name www.modchipcentral.com

the clone chips vs the real ones do look difference in appearance and the quicksolder is a lot easier to perform on the real ones. The quality of the chip itself is infact different, ive seen both the real and clone side by side. The originals will never give you a problem, the clones might its more of a gamble. Seeing as clones and originals are so close in price if youre buying 1 or 2 chips its the safer choice.
www.cellexmods.com will get my vote since I worked with them for many years and do installs for them when they need.
