Okay, well I finally bought a 360. I have it hooked up to my internet via Ethernet cable from my PC to 360. Xbox Live works flawlessly. Everything works...except being able to share with my computer. I tried downloading the Zune thing, and enabled sharing. Nothing. I tried WMP11...nothing. I'm pretty clueless with what else I can do to make it work. I did all the steps, including enabling sharing through the programs themselves. The Xbox 360 shows up fine on my PC when I enable sharing. It just doesn't show up when I search for a media sharing enabled PC on my 360. I have no firewall enabled.
Any help would be appreciated. Like I said, I followed pretty much everything it said on the 360 support page. Thanks!

why don't you use a router, that is probably the problem, although you can connect to live i am not sure if it works the same as sharing files, that is what the router is used for, sharing files over a network, not using a bridge to connect to the net.

DemOn,
I have a Xbox 360 and I am connected to my computer by a wireless. I have a router as well witch is pretty much a given. But you don?t not have to have Zune software to share your share your media. First just wondering, what operating system are you running? For me I use Vista. But anyways instead of Zune, use Windows Media Player. When you open up windows Media Player go to the tab that says Library and click "Media Sharing". Once you do that its pretty self explained. But just incase you have any questions, here. Now select all of the items that you would like to share to IE. "Xbox 360" now if my memory serves me right you will need to select all of the folders you would like to share with your Xbox 360. what I did is I selected the C:\ Drive. That way I can look though all folders on the 360 and not miss any type of media, that?s just what I did.
Now do this on the 360.
To configure music, picture and video sharing
In the Media section, select Music, Picture or Photos .
Select Computer , and then press the A button.
Select YES, Continue , and then press the A button.
Select your Windows XP-based PC, and then press the A button.
Find the music, pictures, or video you want to play, and select an item to play it.
I hope that I was of some help. If you run into any problems I can try to help if I can.
After you have done that let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the help man, but I've already tried that. Sharing is completely setup on WMP11, yet the 360 can't find the computer. I said I tried WMP11(Windows Media Player 11), but thanks anyway for the help. I'll keep looking into it.

I'm having the exact same problem. XBL works great, but can't share with my computer. I've tried dynamic and static IP addresses for the Xbox 360, I've tried 2 different routers (Belkin and Linksys) and even a direct cable connection to the PC. It just never finds any PCs to connect to. Have been through all the MS KB links mentioned and have tried Zune and WMP11 neither work. Any help appreciated.

ok,
I'm using XP Pro. SP2
Xbox connected wireless with no problems. Can stream Music, Pictures and movies(wmv,mp4,)Using WMC can divx xvid be streamed???
Now back to the problem.
check your firewall settings and allow the 360's ip to connect.
What firewall are you using?
Maybe that could be the problem.

you will not have this problem if you are using a router, go with the KISS method to fix this - get a router and make your life easy ...
The problem is most likely, obviously, due to the ICS you have setup - you need to make sure that the xBox & the PC both are communicating together with the SAME Ip range - both the xBox 360 & the PC must be communicating over a specific and same range like 192.168.1.xxx - this MUST be differnet from what your computer is getting from the main network or from your modem. If you have another router ont he network, and it hands out addresses like 192.168.1.xxx, the other network card in the computer AND the 360 (the network port being the one xBox is connecting into) MUST be on a differnet IP range ...
Good luck figuring it out ... won't be difficult if you have some time, google, and experience ... if you don't, use a router ... if you're picking up wifi and then sharing that out, get an access point and then hook that into the xBox - or hook that into a switch and plug your computer & the xBox into it ... regardless, save yourself the time and hassel and just set it up right with some cheap hardware ...

I think this may be related to the problem as I originally had the Xbox 360 wired directly to my PC, and then shared wireless internet using ICS to the Xbox 360. But since then I have put in a router and everything is wired directly to the router, the Xbox 360 and the PC both have 192.168.0.x IP addresses. I have disabled ICS on the PC but it didn't fix anything. I wonder if there's a registry key or some ROUTE settings that are still in effect preventing the 360 from seeing the PC. I installed WMP11 on another PC in the house and the 360 can see that PC just fine, but that's not where all my media is located. My next step is to reinstall Windows XP on the problem PC. It's about due, has been running the same install for 2+ years now.

ok, so the router you're using on the xbox - it has a different IP range then the wireless internet, right? The pc you're sharing from and the xBox are both hooked into it, right?
I'd turn off the firewall inside the router, make sure the firewall is off on the laptop, also make sure that any antivirus or other potential firewall software is turned off - antivirus is fine to have on , but the firwall can interfere big time. Now that your laaptop has all ports open for communication, install Windows media Connect on the laptop. Once finished, reboot and then try to connect from the xBox.
Just remember that the router the xBox is on must also have your laptop connected to it. The IP Range should be different from what the wireless in your house is using - if your laptop is on the wifi with a 168.1.xxx address and the router for the xbox also hands out the same range, then it will cause confusion - just make sure they are separate networks. The PC and the xBox will talk to the router to get interent, the router will then talk to the main network and send the requests out for the internet and everything will work from there. Better yet, just hook up the wifi on the lappy to the wifi (if its there) on the router for the xBox and then you don't have to be connected with a cable ... don't have any idea what the full setup is, but I'm sure I can help you get this figured out if you send me more detailed information on the whole setup starting at your modem for the internet ...

The router I'm using has an IP of 192.168.0.1, the Xbox 360 is wired to it directly and has an IP of 192.168.0.7, and the PC is also wired directly to the router and has an IP of 192.168.0.13. The PC's firewall was off when I started this process, as was the router's firewall. Just to be sure, I have tried enabling the firewall on the PC and opening the proper ports for both WMP11 and Zune without luck. Also I have tried putting the PC in the routers DMZ and setting it as a virtual server, but I'm pretty sure settings only apply to WAN traffic and not LAN.
