OK, [deleted]?

And if so, can I hook up the sata to my motherboard's input instead of a pci adapter?

One last thing, is a special tool needed to open the 360 case?

Many thanks :)

i would just do it through the PCI adapter, because that'll save you time and headaches... not sure why people don't understand that. as far as special tools to open it, no, none needed. you just make one from a DVD or CD spindle case. you tube search it, you'll find it

Thanks for the tutorial Budro, it took me 3 hours, but I got it done, and it works great, and a bit off subject: anyone get the latest release of Jericho and get an unreadable disc error.

I want to buy a 360 and want to update the firmware. Is there a certain model I need to buy and how do I know which one?

If I were you, I would try and get my hands on a hitachi 78 drive. To me, those are easiest to flash. I think if you look it up on google, you can find a list of manufacturing dates, SKU's, and their corresponding drives.

i've just got 3brand new 360's to *lash and all had benq drives in,there easy to do so dont worry. the black elite consoles seem to come with fl79 drives in though so try to avoid them cos they need chipping then flashing will be expensive unlees u are an experienced modder,

I need suggestions. Im flashing a hitachi 78, and everytime I get into windows and open up 360 flash tool thing the xbox shuts off and my computer freezes. Ive tried it about 10 times, and its getting annoying switching from slax to windows over and over. Anybody know what could be causing this?

i had a similier problem with a drive doing just that, it turned out the sata card driver was'nt the right one, installed the proper driver for the card and that cured the system freeze's..hope this helps.

which hitachi tool box are you using.?? have you got the 4.0 version thats what i use and have had no problems with it, also are you using a via vt6421 card.? if not get one and you should have no problems. if you.ve got all them and it still freezes check your bios settings for your mainboard raid should be disabled....let me know how you get on..

one more important thing,,,are you earthing the xbox and pc together.??...if not that can cause this..just place xbox chasis ontop of the pc chasis ,while doing the flashing, the voltage differences could be causing the freeze...

I was using the 4.0 version of toolbox, but I just downloaded 4.5 incase theres a difference. The sata Im using is onboard, and ive used it for flashing twice before with zero problems. Theres no raid, and I had the xbox and the pc case grounded to each other the entire time. This box is a friends so I cant try again right away but ill post back when i find out anything. The only other thing I can think of is the video cable wasnt plugged in the xbox or maybe chipset drivers arent installed. Im using my brothers computer and I dont know if he reinstalled the chipset drivers since the last time he reinstalled xp. I really dont know tho. wish me luck.

and also just to clarify, not only is the computer freezing, but the xbox completely powers off. If i turn the xbox back on then the computer switches to black screen with the little "_" thing that flashes.

well i'd sugest using a diff pc with your sata card and driver installed. because it sounds like a voltage prob. the xbox should not shut down , but may do if it incounts the wrong voltage,i'am only guessing here but i'd try putting the card in another pc then trying again, or trying another sata card, there might be a possibilty that it has failed,it does happen,

I agree with peteryam. also, stupid question: you have your AV cable plugged in, correct? Dumb question, but the little things are important lol

the sata was onboard not a card, but I got it working. I used 360 fwtoolbox 4.5 instead of 4, updated the chipset drivers on the pc, and plugged the av cable in. it worked like a charm. thanks for the help guys.

A friend of mine has a Hitachi 59DJ drive that I flashed using the Maximus Toolbox last month. It was working fine, playing virtually anything, but now it's not playing certain backups I've made him. I have a Hitachi 78FK drive myself, and all of my backups work. I tried re-flashing his with this tutorial, but for some reason, the program just will not detect the drive, even when I just want to erase. Windows will, however, detect the drive completely. I am using a VIA card, I BELIEVE its a 5821. I also have an nForce3 mobo, but it's very finicky with drives so I don't think I should use it. Anyone have any suggestions?

hi m8 i know this might not be of much use to you, regarding your situation, but i use a connectivity kit for all hitachi drives except the 78 and 79 drives and i've never had any problems, one thing i will mention though, is make sure your sata card drivers are the correct one's for the card, the only time i have had problems is when my sata card had the wrong driver installed, i think windows installed an update without me knowing, i uninstalled the card and re-installed it with the origanal driver and that sorted it out.its a long shot but worth a try.

i have a hitachi 79fl, i bought the passkey 79 and installed it. Got a SATA card (Rosewill RC-212 form newegg.com). Passkey seemed to work correctly as was told on maximus website. Now when i put the card in the computer and connect the 79fl with my computer and power them both on at the same time. VIA VT6421 RAID BIOS Setting Utility v4.9 starts up after my computer bios and it scans for device, finds the GDR-3021L drive, which is what the 79fl says it is. Then i get a message underneath it saying 'Press < TAB > key into user window' and computer just freezes there. If i press the tab key as soon as it finds it, it gets me into bios and i cant do anything there other then exit.
I have tried this with 2 different computers with same results. Am i doing something wrong?? I have read that other people had no problem with this card, not sure if i am suppose to do something else with this.

uninstall the via raid utility program, that is wats causing the problem, only install the via card driver not the utility, otherwise your pc will look for a raid boot and freeze, one more thing only turn on the 360 after your pc gets past any onboard raid or sata boot utils, this should stop your pc from freezing, just 1 other point and i cant stress this enough only use your original sata card driver, not any updated ones.

hope this helps

I dont have any raid utility program installed, and i only used the original drivers that came with the card but it still keeps freezing. Card is suppose to detect if only one drive is connected then it does a Non Raid, which it says right after scanning.

just got this info from another forum, worth a go

Ok here's the deal. If you are having trouble booting xp with the 360 connected here is what you do. You need to uninstall the Nvidia IDE drivers and just use the generic drivers that come with xp. So simple huh. If you know how to flash the firmware then you should know how to do this so don't ask. One note though. The only way xp will recognize the drive is to turn pc off, turn 360 on then power up PC. I hope this helps all of you NF4 users out there having problems. I know it did me.

not my work, thx to origanal poster
