2 questions:

1) Do I need CFW on my PSP slim BEFORE I start this process? How do I get CFW from 3.80 OFW if I need to?

2) Seems to me like this process would work fine on Vista, anyone know for sure? What problems am I most likely to run into while using Vista, and how can I get around them?

I have a PSP slim with firmware 4.05 on it. Am I right in thinking that I can't use a Pandora battery and a magic stick? Has anyone succeeded in using these, and if yes could you tell me what I need to do please. I've googled and read a lot on the internet, and it seems that I may have updated to high? Any help would be very welcome.

There is no firmware limit for pandora battery :)
It can install custom firmware on any firmwared PSP :)
HERE is a good guide for isntalling custom firmware on your PSP slim :)
You'll need another PSP with a custom firmware to preapare the files though >_>

First of all, thank you so so much for your reply! It still looks as if I'm stuck though because I don't have another PSP handy or know someone who would lend me theirs. I've been thinking that maybe if I bought myself a second hand one I could then do as you say. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but I just can't see any other way of how I can resolve this issue :( . As you must have already figured, I'm a complete newbie, so although I have read a lot of postings on the subjct on various sites, it just confuses me.

What are your thoughts about what I should do next?

Hi i was wondering if anyone can shed some light on a few matters?, Tomorrow im going to buy myself a second hand psp phat unit and i was wondering if i get one with an original firmware of say 3.80 when i use the pandora battery method and the jigstick card do i have to install cfw 3.80 or can i go straight to cfw 4.01 ?.

also is there anywhere that can advise me on how to dump the games and where to put them on the memory stick when i want to play them , any advise would be appreciated.

@ Sovi3t,

Yes you can go straight to CFW 4.01 M33-2 or whatever, as long as you have a pandora battery and a magik mem. stick, you can upgrade to any CFW.

EDIT: You can copy your OWN games, you should try getting UMD gen, look for forums on how to copy you're own UMD games, for we can not discuss such things here. x]

My PSP life: 1.50>2.00>2.71>3.03> 3.30(Noooo!!!)>3.50>3.50HEN>1.50>3.40OE-A>3.52M33>1.50.3.40OE-A>3.52M33>3.52M33-4>1.50>3.40OE-A>3.52>3.52M33-4

Plainin to get the slim (moddified) BUT IT THE ONLY THING IS THAT IT HAS NO 1.50 KERNEL!{^_^}

@ jackie807 :)
Well, I'd agree with you :) [Since it's your last choice >_<]
But when you're buying the second hand PSP make sure it has a custom firmware and I recommend that you buy a PSP classic :) [And also, you can use that PSP for doing alot of stuff ;) (Like testing risky things out ;))]

But hey none of your friends have a PSP with a custom firmware ??? :O
Also, if you have, then tell them that their PSP is at no risk at all !!! :)

@ acidy :)

Hi again!

Yeah, it's a bit sad that I don't have any friends with a PSP, but I'm an adult female game player, and my friends prefer to play on a PC. Myself, I'm a console addict :)!!

I'll update you on how I get on - and defintiely agree with you that I should use the second hand PSP for testing :D!!

cya later ;)

Ah another adult female console gamer :) We're few and far between here it seems :)

You can also use this guide to get custom firmware:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610313
Buy the datel tool battery for pandora's battery - much easier than hardmodding a battery imho.

Hi guys thanks so much for your help , i did get a Phat PSP and i managed to put cfw on it using the make ur own pandora battery .
Im Slightly peeved that still Sony have not managed to make the psp play divx or xvid movies , i mean how hard is it ? Sony are probably being tight wads about paying for the liscense .

Anyway i love my new toy, one thing i would like to know is if i buy a new 4gig card do i just create a iso folder on that card to put my games in ? or do i have to copy all the other files from my 2 gig card ?.

Anyway guys and Uhmm girls thanks again love the forum.

Sovi3t - when you get the 4 gig memory stick just format it with the psp and you should be good - the iso folder will be created.

Look for memory sticks that are MagicGate supported only - like Sony and SansDisk.
