2 different part numbers, the first one is a DVD Reader the second one is a DVD Burner.
Just as a NOTE if someone has or knows someone that has a Dimension Dell Computer, Models 8400 and 3000 with DVD roms where shipped with the LG GDR 8163B
I got mine from a Dimension 8400 its working but the tools that I got the Wiininja shuts down at the middle of the process, so i dont know why its doing it?

PS3 HD 60GB: 1.33 > 1.90 > 2.01 > 2.17 - NO OS

This is not a new Drive you wont be getting this new on a store, this are refurbish or from old computers... it should be on the top of the Drive, on the sticker and clearly says GDR-8163B or any of the other version.

I just ordered two GDR-8162B from www.Megaloot4u.com.
They were extremely quick to respond to my questions and their prices are great! If you are ordering more than one drive, send them an email and ask them for a quote/discount.
My two drives were shipped the same day! According to USPS, I should them in a day or two!

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows whether the following will work on 64bit windows Vista?
1. Laptop slim drive GDR-8082N works. I personally confirmed firmware 0007 works in PIO mode only, Drive REV. A0. Adapters to use these in desktops are about $5 shipped on eBay. Search for JAE adapter.
My specific laptop is an HP Pavillion dv9260nr.
Any response will be helpful, Thanks.

Do these drives like the LG 8163b work to backup XBOX 360 games. I already have a drive that already works for backing up wii games, and I wanted to know if it would work for XBOX 360 games also.

What did the 8082N come from?
I know Dell, IBM, Toshiba have used the drive...
Everyone be careful of Toshiba drives, same model, but has inverse cable selection...
This means you've got to get your soldering iron out... to get it to run as a master.

It might indicate why you have to use PIO mode.
Its not a big soldering job but an extra risk along with firmware not working, etc...
I'll post the firmware rev, if i get the drive working ;-)
I carn't recall if you have to select master or csel to use a DVD-ROM in an external enclosure...

I am using an LG8164B drive (firmware 0L06) in an external connected to my laptop. It all works well with Rawdump 2.0, and rips a Wii disc in around 3 hours 15 minutes. The drive should be set to 'Master' in an external enclosure.

I bought a GDR-8082N off ebay, there is someone on there at the minute with 80+ units at £15.00 each, from an IBM eServer.
Tried it with rawdump, worked fine.

Yes, i've ordered one of these, also got a toshiba drive.....
I'd prefer a notebook drive - alot smaller - but hey...
Noticed some GDR-8162B at a 'normal' price so had to order a few...
Thinks its the delay waiting for by tsg order, that's making 'impulse buy' ;-)
What firmware is your GDR-8082N then ?

I ordered the units from TSG but they sent the H30N type instead. Was told, by them, that they had proved they worked and would send a disc. Still to receive the disc as yet to prove it. Anyone else had the same story?

ats did the same thing to me i still have the drive its actually for sale, i m not no computer wizz but i tried and it didnt work for me so if theres some sort of trick let me know.
