1. burn using nero
2. burn using imgburn
3. used filechop
4. used verbatim, ritek dvds
5. updated firmware to 3.1E

All came back with unrecognised disk. I just realised I need a GameCube controller, which I don't have, but that shouldn't stop it from booting and recognising the disk, right?

Have I missed something? Any help is greatly appreciated.

did u burn the right region update disc for your wii? i take it your wii is a pal wii since your firmware is 3.1E.

Yeah, I burn the PAL version. Also, I believe my wiikey was already 1.9b prior to this problem as it was already released when I took it to the shop for modding, if that makes any difference.

Any other ideas?

I wish I had some advice, but I had a similar problem happen. After playing a backup of Mario and Sonic Olympic games for the first time, eight of my backups stopped being recognized by the my USA Wii. The Wii previously recognized all eight discs, and then boom, after Olympic games those eight immediately stopped working. All other backups stilled worked and any backups I've made after Olympic Games and worked perfectly. But those eight that stopped working and still dead. All backups made with the same burners, programs and media (media as in the same 50 pack).

I just throw this out as information in case something gives you an idea as to what may be the problem. Of course, I didn't turn my Wii off during an update and fortunately, most of my backups were and continue to be unaffect.

Good luck.

SDMFer,

exactly like you said... got my Wii, updated it to 3.1U, updated the Wiikey to 1.9g, inserted SMG and did the required update, and everything works just fine!!!

I cannot believe that all this mess was caused by people mixing diffent regions on their consoles.

Thanks to the Wiikey team for a great release!

The best thing you can do for yourself is take the time to search, browse, and read the posts in this Forum.

If I were you, I would do the following:

1) re-install update 1.2b for the Wiikey
2) if that works, then update back to 1.9g

If you're not able to use the 1.2b update disk then do the following:

1) Download the 1.2 recover disc from wiikey.cn
2) Read the txt file that comes with it
3) Filechop it and burn it to dvd
4) perform the recover (directions say to wait 3 minutes, i would wait 6)
5) if the recover works, then install 1.9g

If you're not able to do that either, then use this:

link

oh, by the way, please use the correct region.

Let me know if that helps

for NTSC USA:
First off let me say my god, that sticky is way too confusing and way too much crap in there for anyone to read. 300 and something posts all referring to ntsc, pal, japan and so on. There should have been separate stickies for each region of consoles, would have been way easier for folks.

ANyways, heres what i did which worked no problems.

1) Prominents SMG usa - load this (dont brickblock patch it if its usa) just use brickblocker to read the info and it should say its already usa. Load this disc and let it update. You have to select it from the wii channels and then accept the updates.

2)load 1.9g update disc. Use game cube controller to select A when it asks you to. First it will run through a test, then will come up with red writing saying its updating.

3) once this is done, load the SMG disc again and you WILL be good to go.

my god, I was soo nervous reading a million retarded scattered posts when all i really needed was this info (which i just wrote for you guys).

let me know if there are any questions. Have fun!
Are you serious?

You complain about the past post being retarded. Well your's is just as retarded since you add nothing new to this thread.

Those steps have been explained time and time again on this thread. So don't go acting like your someones HERO and saved the day for all.

All you did was repeat what others have already posted previously before you.
SDMFer is sounding more and more like a hero based upon rafadawn's success claimed two posts above. Thanks again SDMFer for clarifying 19 pages of mess all caused by different regions.

so basicly if I burn a successful copy of SMG (NTSC), and have a USA Wii, then it will ask for updates. I then allow it to update all the way and I am good?

Also, will this occur for most of the other new games like mario and sonic at the olympic games? I am a little afraid of letting it update since that is what I heard is the main cause of bricking your wii.

I have a US system. I always run Wiibrickblocker on the images. Basically I load the image into wiibrickclocker and then click on READ INFO. If the image is a US one I do not even bother patching it (since it matche my system), then I burn it at 4x using NERO.

In general, what I have learnt from the board is that:

1) If you only use games from the same region as your Wii, you cannot brick your system
2) For new games that contai a system update is better to check the board here and on other Wii sites to see if there are negative reports before using it
3) Finally, games from other regions that do not contain system updates are ok to run on the Wii, but before doing that I reccommend to search the Net for the correct region image, and, if you cannot find an image for that game from the same region as your system, then PATCH the image with Wiibrickblocker and before running the game research the reports.

I think that's the meat-and-potatoes of what I've read on AD and other sites.

bizcuit try using the hacked config disk to turn your region free on, then you should be able to update the WiiKey.

Hacked update disk, posted by AtiLaw near the bottom,

P.S. These two questions are for a NTSC wii only playing NTSC games, and never out of region games.

Exactly.

1) Update your system to 3.1U
2) Update your Wiikey to 1.9g
3) run SMG and let it update

enjoy the results (by the way all games work on my Wii including the very new ones).

I just started a new thread about Firmware Updates and I hope people will contribute so that we can keep track of new updates easily and in one spot. I also included links to some nice resources for people like us. Check it out here

Hi, I downloaded SMG USA and updated my Wii with it. Its FW is 3.0, and my WiiKey is a clone. Does that mean I can't update it? I burned the GCOS 1.3 config file (yes it's padded), but my Wii can't read it. I'm using a DVD-R disc.

I've never updated the chip before either.

hey all,

this is a stupid question, but i going to ask it any how haha. (sry)

so if the SMG dosent work on a mod wii without the up to date version of the mod chip, i cN just buy the real game and it will work fine, or will it detect the mod chip still?

thanks

Retail will work fine. Why not just update your Modchip. Most Modchips have an update out already. The only 1 that I know that has no update is the WiiD.

I thought from reading earlier posts that even the original SMG disc won't play if you have a mod chip???

Are you sure about this? I thought it would detect the mod chip?

Let's see if I can help.

1) Read the thread I started here

2) Using the tutorials in that thread see if you can upgrade your Wii to 3.1U via Internet (I am assuming you have a US Wii)

3) The thread also has links to Wiikey Recovery Discs in GCOS mode. Those should allow you to fix any problem. (Once again use the GCOS disc for your region)

4) After this you can run SMG (Appropriate region, please) and let it install the update. Everything should be fine.

Let me know if this helps.

Does good media matter when making WiiKey discs?

Also, I updated with SMG before updating to 3.1. Does that matter as well? :P

I read previous threads that said the retail worked fine on modded Wii systems.

The new protection doesn't detect the Modchip it detects if the RAM has been modified.

Think about it if the new protection was in the firmware then no backup games would be able to play past or future. It has to be a new protection on the game disc itself.

Something like checking the RAM after the game has been started via the disc channel. If the RAM has been modified it will bring up the unauthorized device error.

If the RAM isn't modified it will start the game as normal. This being the reason why the retail version would work. Because the Modchip doesn't need to modify the RAM.

It would appear the new Modchip firmware updates have bypassed this new protection letting it boot without the unauthorized device error.

The only exception to this would be if you try playing a retail imported game disc of SMG (Game that is not the region your Wii is) which the Modchip would then kick in for region free capabilities. But NTSC(U) and NTSC(J) of SMG are not region compatible anyway.

Thats how I understand it all. if I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me.

On the net, everywhere I see that people telling the D2Ckey is running SMG fine. On the other hand, I have D2CKey, and SMG is not running, with the unauthorized device detected error.

I am started to be suspicious, that maybe we d2cowners (including me) are misleaded, and we actually having something else in our box, and the modder is laughing because he sold something cheaper for a higher price...

Is there someone who knows for SURE that he have a D2Ckey and SMG is not working?

Thanks

My SMG original disc did not work on my modded Wii, but it was an open source chip that cannot be updated. Apparently, this will not be a problem with those with chips that can be flashed. I will probably replaced it with a newer chip.

Is it an imported retail game of Mario Galaxy? Like a NTSC(U) version trying to play on a NTSC(J) Wii?

I know allot of users that have a WiiD Modchip and can play the retail version of SMG perfectly fine on their Wii without the unauthorized device message.

Hi all,

I hope I don't get flamed for this one, but here goes. After reading all the Wiikey installs gone correctly (and update posts), I've decided to buy one. My only question is which Wiikey update should I install once I've installed the Wiikey if I've already played SMG and was forced to update (to 3.0u)?
-Again, sorry if someone else has posted this already.
