If you leave you'll be missed. As gerry mentioned, the testosterone has been a bit thick. Don't get caught up in that or you'll have to start shaving your lip. LOL I stopped playing Don Qiuxote some time ago (except when I can actually connect with the windmills). That's why I try to stay out of the contests. This is the net and not our website, we have no control, zilch, nada. So, there's nothing that can be done about anything. Once the forum becomes a democracy, then maybe we can vote. Until then ... don't hold your breath. ;)
My thoughts on the Safety Valve.
Close it...
To the last of us, even the troublemakers, we come to the SV to socialize, whether positive or negative. Moderators would simply moderate and not chat if they didn't want to be involved. Some members like to make friends and chat while others like to get into mischief. It still boils down to wanting to interact in an online community. Anyone who has ever posted in SV is guilty. I don't see why members keep going once they've made their discontent with management clear. Then again I don't see why management bans members for not liking what they've said or done. That's like creating martyrs for the opposition.
... or leave it open.
Under the original premise the SV was a good place to visit and socialize. It should have only 3 restrictions, no politics, no religion, and no flaming. Anyone not liking the contents of a thread that's already going should disagree peacefully or start their own thread. I don't think anything in the SV was intended to be constructive other than having a place for members to socialize on the site. Now that's in jeopardy.

Like popsmith said, he didnt start a new thread asking the same question because of a cloud of fear of being banned. Thats understandable. a bit like nazi germany, people didnt speak up because they were afraid. but there were also people who werent scared, they just enjoyed being manipulative and evil and ganging up on people, sheilded because you brown nosed your way into the powers that be.
Im just speaking my mind about the things that have pissed me off recently ripper, and im sorry to say that your one of them.

I never had any time for ireland and Gerry & I hit it on and off. I didn't particularly like them and i think it's fair to say they particularly never liked me. I can be civil and I can be an asshole, everyone knows that.
In my humble opinion, Gerry was fighting for a lost cause and one that wasn't justified. This is the internet. If Gerry wants to be able to chat with ireland and/or post news and jokes everywhere, maybe they should consider setting up their own forum or getting Msn or such. How about that for an idea?
Personally, I think standing up for what you believe in on the interent is pointless. Unless you own the site or are an influential part of it (ie, Moderator) then you either have to suck it up or leave, like Auslander said. They didn't choose either, so in turn, they've been forcefully "eivcted" so to speak. That's how it goes. This is the internet.
And I think you're confusing brown nosing for having a like minded opinion on certain members/things @ AfterDawn. It's not like I haven't had my fair share of run ins with ddp and creaky but the fact I don't go on a rampage and disrespect them afterwards is why maybe they have little respect for me too.
Oh and while we're on the topic of brown nosing, it makes me sick to see everyone flock around after ireland in the way they did/do.

The list goes on. Sure, you'll probably hate me for saying this, but that's up to you. I like you, I think we have a lot in common and I enjoy chatting on Msn about the real world but if you want to lose it with me over a forum, the feel free to do so.
I've got to leave for school now, but if I find anything else I'd like to add, then I'll edit accordingly.

OJ.....I try to stay out of the S/V and I am too old now to get into disputes...especially ones relating to the Internet.

Good post. Seems even gerry1 doesn't want to see the "bickering" continue on the forums. Only his name is gone anyway. ZigZag or whatever is still with us. LOL Will he be allowed back as gerry1 or will he need to be gerry2? ;) These name changes are starting to confuse me. I need a program to keep up.

First things first....the SV is going no where.
I think it might be a good idea to leave this one open to get everything off our chests and I won't be banning anyone as long as we manage to keep the debate civil. Looks like no one is happier than when they are bitching.
Anyone who has spent any time at all on AD knows that the SV has always been a place of danger and intrigue. You have to enter with thick skin and be ready for battle or to just have a good time, but at the same time you have to know when to draw the line. While I agree with creaky that the chat threads are pretty useless, but I don't see a problem with them and usually post fairly heavily in them myself....they just don't phase me. I think it is a good way to get to know other members of the site.
Being in a new position here I didn't realize how difficult it would be to deal with the people who I was once on an even keel with and it saddens me to see some of them drop to the side of the road. So far though I'm enjoying it and I hope that the friends here don't think I'm a different person....that seems to keep cropping up for some reason. I'm the same loco LOCO, but I have been given and opportunity and a job to do here and I will do it to the best of my ability. With as many members as AD has, there will never be a decision made that will make every single poster happy....
Anyway I want to share a snippet from a PM from a very respected Addict who shall remain anonymous....

Things are a bit different. You've not changed much, but you are the man with the power now. Some people have authority issues. In the past those who didn't like what you said could complain to the mods. Now they have to complain to you. I hope you manage to keep your sunny disposition. ;) I'll take my chances and treat you the way I always have. Keep up the good work.

Well Well Well,
I'm gone for a little while and look what is happening around here. This really stinks :-( I used to love coming to this sight I mean I would come here regularly everyday for about two years straight. I have still been lurking and reading a lot just not posting to much, but I felt I had to post here for some reason, and I for the life of me can't figure out why? Other than to just say to all parties involved in this debacle were all good people and friends to some extent. It bothers me because there really isn't a side to take on this one because I have grown to respect and admire most involved. Gerry1 was always one you could count on. Auslander awesome person, Creaky we have always been bud's from when he first joined, Ripper and I have had some disagreements on here that is true, but we always worked them out like grown ups do :-), Ireland going to miss him. There are others in all of this that I am forgetting, but the point here is everyone wants to blame the new guys here at AD and how they are bringing it down, but in all actuality is not the newbie?s at all, but us old timers that are doing the most damage to this sight. There used to be a time (not to long ago) when all of us seniors and addicts stuck together and if there were a problem we would solve it through PM's. Not anymore now everyone just attacks each other right in the forum for all to see. As seniors and Addicts I feel it should be our responsibility to rise above this and act like mature adults. We should be promoting a much friendlier atmosphere here at AD and looked up to and admired, but that isn't happening. Now people are just posting useless post to get there post count up so they can be a senior member. I have a lot more to vent, but I will leave that for another time as I am not the best at expressing my thoughts in writing and not sure if anyone really gets where I may be coming from with any of this, but it just down right blows that this is happening here at AD and I keep lurking around hoping it will change, but I am afraid it will never change (I hope I am wrong).
Also just so you everyone knows I had left AD because I was getting to hot and heavy into it with another Addict and if I would have stayed it most likely would have lead to my demise. I can say his name now I believe because I don?t see him around here anymore and most old timers know about it anyway. Scubapete and I where getting into it pretty hot and heavy about a year ago, and I for the life of me couldn?t figure out where he was coming from? I mean when I first came to AD Pete was the first person I had talked with and grew to admire and respect (and still do) I hold no ill feelings or grudges towards Pete whatsoever, but I guess what got me the most about it was that here was a person with whom I respected and considered a friend all of a sudden attacking me. When I got to AD Pete was already an Addict and at that time I really thought that meant something I mean I really thought that guy was God and knew everything (he did know a lot). Anyway I bet most newbie?s that come to this sight feel the same way at first (just think back to when you were newbie?s) that these guys are Addicts and Seniors they must really know there stuff only to see some of the junk being written around here. It ruins your credibility as a person. The whole reason behind this sight is to help others not tear people down, if there is a disagreement please do it in a PM I for one am really tired of seeing all the mud slinging going on around here.

I'm 15, but nevertheless bbmayo, you're a very knowledgeable member of these forums and one that I both respect and look upon as just that, a very knowledgeable member that I respect. :-)

Look. I meant everything i said in the post u replied to.
But likewise, we get on off the forum and i think your a good kid (not patronising you, i just use that word for people my age too, as i too am a "kid"), or at least you have the potential to be one. You just need to choose your route.

cheers ddp, i was just saying to Loco, i've had it round here lately, i'm not going to keep wasting my time around these here parts, am getting my coat and leaving the building :)
We (here in UK) had the ultimate Halloween treat last night, the original Halloween movie was on last night at 23:30, couldn't stay up for most of it but was happy to drift off to sleep shortly after hearing the scary music and some of the sound effects in the film; it's not really Halloween without that movie. Be interested to see how the 2007 remake compares as haven't seen it yet. I'll wager the music will never come close to the original John Carpenter score..

agreed as i'm getting a wee bit pissed about this & when i get pissed off then somebody is going to pay & it won't be me. this is a tech site everybody not a bitch site so if want to bitch then either do it off site or at least in pm's but not in public. we are here of our own free will to teach & learn about technology not about pettiness. do i make my self clear!!?

We here in Canada had the Halloween movie also, god it's so cheesy but good, they also played Halloween 5-Revenge Of Michael Myers and Hellraiser (gotta love Clive Barker).
And as for kids I had about a hundred plus come by the house, poor dog is hoarse from barking so much. LOL

I haven't seen the remake of Halloween either, But I doubt it could hold a candle to the orginal, Remakes almost never do.

You mean to say you took the kids halloween candy and chips. Now that's mean. LOL I buy candy every year and no kids show up. I live about a quarter mile down a lonely lane and so far no kids have shown up at my door. LOL I'll end up eating some of it and giving the rest to children in the family.
I've not been bitching or crying and don't intend to. That old "somebody done somebody wrong song" keeps spinning like a broken record, whether in the SV or in other places. Like gerry1 said, it's not good for public viewing. Every moderator I've heard says the same, there's no place for the constant bickering about forum politics. It's divisive and will accomplish nothing other than getting members banned, as recently happened. A couple of the banned have been kind enough to return, although with different names. ;) All that's happened leaves me with just one question. What is the Safety Valve for?

Apparently that description needs some adjustment.
I'm not trying to stir anything or make anyone angry. All I'd like to hear is someone from the staff tell us what the SV is for and have it stated in the title description. I already know it's not for arguing with the staff. ;)
