You only need to set up a static IP if you have problems with UPnP.. If your router supports it, try enabling it on your router.. Anything that is supported will automatically forward the ports neccessary.. Check the settings on your PS3.. Nat 1= you connected directly to the internet with no router. Nat 2= your connected to a router and ports are good. Nat 3= bad connection, will no see most servers. Nat 4= uh.... if you see this then your drunk.....

my ps3 says Nat type 2. It is my router slowing down the torrents, in utorrent it has a red circle and says a firewall/router is limiting your download traffic or something. My firewall and windows firewall both have utorrent in their allow application list, and this problem only started when I connected my router.
I tried portforward.com and followed the guide for my linksys WRT54GC router exactly about 3 times and it didnt work, also my internet wouldnt work all together after that so I had to go back into the settings and delete what I just did and luckily my internet came back on.
I dont know what else I can try, I also was going to try the PFConfig program advertised on portforward.com but It was like $30. I tried downloading it off the torrents aswell, luckily it was only 2.5mb so it didnt take long even with limited speed. but when I pressed update router it seemed to know I got it from a torrent site and told me to go to the site a buy it legally.
:( stupid smart progam.

my router does support upnp, it was on anyway i think. The problem isnt with my ps3's connection now, its the pc's one with torrents. I suppose I could try azeurus and see if its any better, but I doubt it if my ports are closed. Thank's for everyone helping, I'd be lost without you all!

Try setting the most options you can to "automatic". When you reach the ppoe screen select the "manual" option. Put in your user name and password that was assigned to you through your internet service provider (username and password). This worked for me. Try to post any progress or problems.
