Awesome guide Im about to try this out because Im having some very strange issues after trying to go from 1.50 official up to 3.71m33 I have a question though it may be dumb but ill ask anyway. Can I follow this method even though my PSP is not actually bricked? I basically want to start fresh with my PSP and this method seems to take a lot of the extra steps out of the way so I cant mess anything up by getting files confused.

Yes resievol, you can follow this guide on any PSP, bricked or not.

Larrylje, does this work with a Slim PSP battery then?

@resievol

Yes you can use this guide to install or unbrick custom firmware to any PSP.

@Ike14

Yes it works with compatible SLIM Batteries. Just make sure you choose to "write serial only from ms0:/eeprom.bin" when you convert the SLIM Battery back to normal.

what im thinking is that maybe while creating the magic memory stick i might have made an error but ive done it 3 times now following the directions perfectly and still nothing but maybe this is the problem :

The files will now be installed to the Memory Stick.

After it has finished writing the files you will get an image similar to below. Just type Y and ENTER to finish the instillation of files to the Magic memory Stick.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h141/larrylje/writeboot.jpg

during this step i dont get that message in the image that asks me to push yes to continue i get another that says the people who created the program and then it closes after i push a button

Rey using a PC running XP. If you still have issues try using a different Memory Stick.

EDIT - fixed problem. I used XP and made sure the PSP was in USB mode BEFORE I ran the installer and in between each step that doesn't specifically ask you to turn off USB mode.

So anytime you take it out of USB mode, after you do what the program says, put it back in before continuing. For some reason, the whole thing took a longer time than when I wasn't putting it back into USB mode, but I guess that's because it was actually writing the files to my memory stick..

I've been reading your guides for a long time, first time to thank you, so: thanks Larry :)

I have the same problem as crisis..I don't get the writeboot screen I just get the credits and "press any key to exit"

I tried it on vista and then 2 xp machines with no luck. the only difference I noticed was in the formatting screen. vista just basically skipped the "verifying 957 mb" part from 0% to the next screen. xp counted through 0-100% sorta slowly.

this is making me nutz..

One thing I wanted to add to this post that may or may not be common knowledge to everyone else using slim's. After this is all said and done it is a good idea to take a look at your flash1 via usb if there is no VSH folder in there then you will have to get those files back in there or your .ptf custom themes (via xmb) will not work. After I followed this tutorial (awesome work btw) I couldnt get my themes to work on the slim and found out by replacing those folders I could get it to work again and voila it worked. Needed folders are

flash1:/dic
flash1:/gps
flash1:/net
flash1:/net/http
flash1:/updater
flash1:/vsh
flash1:/vsh/theme

DO NOT REPLACE OR OVERWRITE any of these if they are present and do not get rid of hte registry file. Only if you open up your Flash1 via usb in the recovery menu and you see it is blank except the registry will be there already also

make sure to do a backup before you change anything in your flash1
