It's an updated firmware that has the stuff Sony released in the official firmware like internet radio but 3.80 m33 also has the update custom firmware feature through the network update.
See this thread for the release notes - link

I just ran this tutorial on my PSP Phat with OFW 3.80, and it worked great. I used a Datel tool battery, and my magic memory stick. I ran it on my slim with OFW 3.72 also, and it worked great. I just wanted to pass this info on to anyone wondering if it would work with OFW 3.80.

This is a little off topic, but does anyone know how to play Playstation 1 games on PSP with 3.71m33-4?

@Gulron
Yep off topic. Do a search 1st and I'm sure you'll find quite a few threads covering this.

instead of getting this screen, i got a screen saying something like "Thank you for so and so for the program"
and"files copied by xhi"
or something to that effect
and it just says Press any key to continue....and then it exits
also, what should the contents of your memory stick be after this? does vista work ok?

members need to read the past post in this guide. It has been said multiple times to use XP if you have issues running it on Vista.

@pspoldguy
my GOD -.- dun do that unless u are promted to restart ur psp , u'll just have to wait till the update complete if u turn off half way, i duno what might happen to ur psp, good luck. well tell u something honestly, when i update to v3.80 m33-3 frm v3.71m33-2 when i finish updating, i was promted to restart...but...my psp dint turn on at all
the LED did turn on but the screen dint show up anything i kept trying every idea i can think of till i remove my mem stick remove the battery also(which finally worked- turning my psp back on)...i wait for around 1~2mins later place the battery pack back, and hold the L Trigger down, i duno what it means but it just turn back on and function normally..and its updated to v3.80m33-3.
***So take note***

Edit:
ur mem stick LED keeps blinking because it is extracting the patch files u put in it', it'll definitly take sometime for it to extract the files and extract to its onboard OS.

Thanks for the guide. Looks easy enough to use. I'm gonna try changing my Official Firmware 3.80 into the custom firmware. I'll let you know how everything goes! Appreciate the guide looked all over for days!

It's not just Vista. This will not work with 64bit versions of Windows XP. I got the same exact result as Vietpsp but I am running Windows XP 64bit.

It seems like it gets most of the way trough, then skips to some sort of credit screen that says "hit any key" then closes. The card it produces will not work, must be reformatted.

It´s freaking amazing, I´ve read this thread trough since it was a while ago...

But just one thing,

CANT PEOPLE READ FIRST, THEN ASK?

Specially the one about the FAT battery in SLIM, "of course, TRY first!"

So I´ll say this one more time, to relief very much on larry...

READ THE TREAD FIRST!

PSP is running fine :)

FF1 & FF2 remakes for PSP is recommended :)

LA - www.DIVINEO.cn is the BEST TV/console site ever! soooo cheap and it got everything :D

i think you need to get a life 1st and then try. Why risk wrecking a PSP before asking .. this is a forum you know .. doH

Chill - there's no need to tell someone 'to get a life'.

I agree w/ littlelen - READ 1st then ask.
Why don't you take a look through these forums and see all the redundant threads about the same thing. Many times they could have been solved with just a little reading.
Remember people do these guides and try and help others in their free time and for free.
Is it really that much to ask to READ/SEARCH first? I don't think so - after all it is in the rules.

you can´t wreck your PSP nowadays ;)

The thing I wanted to bring up, is that, by asking the same questions again again again and again will just result in unnecessary amount of pages for new users to read trough to get an simple answer... ;)

I think I did see the FAT battery in SLIM question 5 or 6 times in 6 pages :S

Now YOUR answer, Easiest way is to HARD-MOD your FAT battery(SLIM battery is a bit trickier..) or, to softmod it, by run an app on the FAT PSP in 1.5 Kernel Mode(the old Pandora Way. ask google how, because i don´t remember)...

My recommendation is to buy the battery from divineo or DATEL themselves. 28 bucks or something i think, split with a friend.. (No mistakes available on your own ORG battery)

Then Use the MMS(Use modded or unmodded PSP or cardreader to make it) and insert the battery then... so FAT HARD-MOD/SOFT-MOD battery in slim with MMS already inserted...

After put CFW on it, you can push it as low you want it in FW, 3.52 is the lowest for SLIM.. Am I right? maybe not, but in the area..
