hi, thx for the great guide I just wanted to get 2 things cleared up before I give this a shot tomorrow. At the end of guide it says
" X will install 3.71 M33-2 to the PSP and O will install 3.71 official firmware to the PSP."
Do I need to install both if so what first ? And second the psp is used I am buying it off a guy at work and he thinks it has 3.9 firmware, will this stick work ? I am sorry if these are easy/dumb questions this is all new to me and thx for any help....=)

You just need to install m33-2, which is the custom firmware.
if you follow these steps correctly, yes. this will work.
PSP Firmware History:

I have been trying to use delateurs guide on page 7, i have downloaded mspformat.exe and msinst.exe, however the 1st step says to format the ms using mspformat. When i run that program i just get a dos window that flashes up for a millisecond then closes and nothing happens.Is it something i am doing wrong?

if you're using vista, then that's your problem. you'll need to use a computer with winXP on it to run the programs.

It says in the guide it should work with any version, besides i have tried it on xp and vista with no joy.
I cant understand it. I have already put cfw on my own slim psp using the guide a couple of months ago but i have formatted my card since, now my mate wants his fat psp doing and it wont work. Its the same ms and pc.
Is it possible to have mixed results with the same ms? As i say, i have used this ms before and it worked.

Wow. This amazes me. Does anyone use the search button, or even read the first page anymore?
THIS WILL WORK ON ALL FIRMWARES NO MATTER FAT OR SLIM.

Most likely a bricked PSP. If you have a NAND backup i suggest you use that because it will be impossible to fix your brick now. Its called a super brick because your flash1 was destroyed in the process.
If it doesn't work use 'NANDTOOL', its a helpful program.

Hopefully IDStorgage keys are having a backup copy then a Clean NAND image restore follow with IDStorage keys (need to be from your own PSP) restore should fix it.

That is a download link why you see Japanese? All homebrew application cannot use on official firmware.

well if it can only be used on the custom firmware, then theres no point in backing that up, correct? i thought that the backing up of the NAND *HAS to be done before going to custom firmware and before any modding.

You can backup the NAND before or after CFW is installed. The only difference is...
Backing up Official Firmware NAND dump will restore PSP to the Official firmware that the PSP had when NAND dump was made.
Backing up Custom Firmware NAND dump will restore PSP to the Custom Firmware that the PSP had when NAND dump was made.
This guide creates a Universal Magic Stick that includes a NAND backup in the menu list. Just take the time to read all options when booting the Magic memory Stick and Pandora Battery.
If your flash0 or flash1 is corrupt beyond repair of universal Unbricker (Flash0 or Flash1 fails to format) then you will need a NAND backup of that PSP to restore it.
The only other option one might have is if you have a FAT PSP. There is still hope by backing up your NAND dump as is (just for IDSTORAGE Information) and use another NAND dump from another FAT PSP and restore it to your PSP. Then use the NAND dump that was made with your PSP and use Homebrew that restores just the IDSTORAGE Information back to your PSP this restoring your PSP to normal.
The above option will not work on SLIM PSP's so don't attempt it. The only option you have on a SLIM is restoring your SLIM with the original NAND dump of that PSP.

Well, the first thing you do after the upgrade is backing up your NAND. If you want to do this before the upgarde you may want to use UPMS Installer instead of the one discussed in this post, UPMS came with NAND backup utilities after booting up via the Magic Memory Stick with the help of the Pandora Battery.

when i pres now L+R+start+home to restore nand dump show this message Error erasing block ppn=0x0000200
Nand write complete.
Press X to shutdown the psp

hmm i think i will use this universalunbrick guide to backup my official firmware NAND, and then after i get my CFW installed, i will backup the CFW NAND as well. Would that be logical/usefull Larry?

Are you using a NAND dump that belongs to this PSP?
Did you make that NAND backup prior to your issues above. Or did you make it after?
Make sure you have renamed the NAND dump from nand-dump.bin to nandimage.flash

Isnt that a contradicting statement. You first say you cant backup the Official NAND with the UPMS installer *because UPMS has to be run on CFW*....Then you say the universal unbricker can backup the NAND before or *After CFW is installed*.
