If you would like to restore your PSP to normal for sale or repair then yes backing up the official NAND would be good. Just make sure after you backup the Official NAND you transfer it to your PC and label it Official. If you don't and you then backup the Custom Firmware NAND then it will overwrite the Official NAND dump on the MS.

The option to backup your NAND with this Universal Unbricker is perfectly fine and can be done before or after custom firmware is installed.

Isnt that a contradicting statement. You first say you cant backup the Official NAND with the UPMS installer *because UPMS has to be run on CFW*....Then you say the universal unbricker can backup the NAND before or *After CFW is installed*.
The UPMS creates the Magic Memory Stick by using a .cso image file that is ran from the PSP Memery Stick. In order to run that .cso image file you need a custom firmware PSP.

This guide usses a PC to create the Magic Memory Stick.

Technically yes the UPMS can be used to backup Official/Custom Firmware NAND dumps but in order to get to that stage you need a custom firmware PSP to set up the Magic Memory Stick to do so.

Those only having access to an Official Firmware PSP can not use UPMS they need an application like the one in this guide.

To prepare the Magic Memory Stick you don't need PSP with CFW. Magic Memory Stick can be prepared on a PC running Windows XP and a card reader or connect the MS via USB with PSP running OFW.

Agreed that option to backup NAND can be done before or after CFW installation.

I never said you needed a custom firmware PSP to create the Magic Memory Stick. Read my past post again plus read the guide title. I said in order to run the UPMS installer (which you suggest these users to use) you need a custom firmware PSP.

You have suggested to users that they use UPMS instead of this guide since it has NAND utility backup. The fact is this is a guide for users that have a official Firmware PSP. Telling them to use UPMS instead of this guide is misinforming them since the UPMS can not be run with official firmware PSP's.

hey got a question for you guys, i didn't find the answer from most of these questions. I've got the pandora battery, got everything ready done. Everything has been working like a charm for the past few months but something I've been meaning to ask. My psp has CFW 3.71 m33-4 now, I just couldn't find the new firmware like 3.80 nor 3.90 and I got the files from this thread, which is kinda weird. I was wondering if there's anything major updated that I would want to update my firmware? If so, where can I find the files, cause I couldn't even find the MUX2.0 to load, after I got the 3.71 m33-2 update all i had was the m33-4 update in my magic stick.

On the side note, does any of the later firmware after 3.71 m33-4 fix the UMD movie issue where you have to leave an UMD in there in order to play ripped movies? Also do they fix the fact that you can only use ISO files for the movies and not CSO?

just connect the psp to ac power, then connect the battery in, and take out the power. have you made the memory stick yet?

Haha good luck :)

if you've done your memory stick into a magic one, why dont you just put the card in and put the battery in?

thats all you need. and it should just come up with :

install 3.71 official
install 3.71 m33 or something

no dice :( the psp turns on with the normal battery no problem. but when i put in the service one, yeah its still just a black screen. i plugged it into the AC adapter and then put in battery and no luck and vice versa. did pressing the square cause my psp to become unmoddable? i'm still stuck at 3.80 OFW

i'm a little rusty, but does square make it into a service battery?

i think it may be the memory card that is the problem. just try doing that all again.

Hmmm. Maybe its bricked :/

Connect the AC into the PSP and turn it on. Take out the mem stick & batt. If it is only a green light, your psp is bricked.

Ohh. so you still have a normal battery with you.

okay. so go to the battery creator and turn the other battery into a service mode one. (the one that isn't the one that works)

well i actually have the battery service tool that converts your battery to a service tool and back to a normal one. but it worked on the first try, messed up and dumped the nand, but i don't see why it wouldnt work anymore. there has to be a way to correct what i did by pressing the square button....if you know any error codes, after i dumped it i got a "bad block at page 72192 block 2256" and then it shut down :/ that happened on the first memory stick. i have then used my other memory stick but to no avail :(

Are you using a NAND dump that belongs to this PSP?

Did you make that NAND backup prior to your issues above. Or did you make it after?

Make sure you have renamed the NAND dump from nand-dump.bin to nandimage.flash
where to find nand dump and to rename it ?

Are you having a Slim? this is normal for Slim, just go ahead continue the installation and restart with the normal battery.
