If you have an Official firmware PSP then no because the Official PSP can not run the battery tool program.

If you have a Custom Firmware PSP then use this guide HERE.

I know this has been stated a million times in this forum but I could not find the solution to it in the 40+ pages on this guide. I've been working on this problem for a good week now and I cannot seem to fix it!

Whenever I put in the Datel TOOL battery, the screen stays black! It does not boot up into service mode!

I'm using a Fat 3.73 OFW psp and I followed the instruction on the memory stick installer exactly. Except, the screen that says "PSP MS IPL INSTALLER" does not show up. It flashes on the screen for a split second and then just skips to the credits page where it says "press any key to exit." I know this isn't a unique problem, since many others have stated the same thing on this forum, but I AM using window xp. Vista can't be the problem since I don't even have it. I also went out today and bought a new memory stick because others have said some just don't work. Alas, a brand new 1 gb SanDisk still refuses to work. I've done everything to try and fix this except shoot myself in the brain out of frustration. Please please please someone help me! I don't know what else to do! Am I just the one person doomed to be stuck with OFW forever??

Try using a different PC to run the easy installer. There are cases of XP having issues as well. If XP is 64-Bit version then this defiantly could be the issue. If it is 32-Bit then it could still be a glitch in your setup so try using a different PC.

I'd love if someone could help me out here...

I have tried this out 4 times now, and each time I have had the same issue. I purchased a Pandora Battery online, and I was able to load all the software. I am using an 8gb SANDISK Memory Stick Pro Duo, and I using System Software: Version 3.80.

I get to this point...

After you have made the magic memory stick and got a Datel Tool Battery/Hardmodded the Battery you can now use them to install custom firmware to a FAT/SLIM PSP.

Just place the Magic Memory Stick in the PSP and then place the Datel Tool/Hardmodded Battery into the PSP and a menu should come up.
I follow those steps, and absolutely nothing happens. If I replace the Pandora battery with my normal one, the system will boot up fine (with/without memory stick in the drive). When I try connecting the AC adapter first, as soon as the Pandora battery is inserted, the Power light flashes orange, then green quickly, and then there are no lights at all.

I'm thinking it could be a defective Pandora, however I was hoping someone might have some input.

Any help is appreciated, and thanks to the OP for the guide. I really hope I can get this working.

Well I've tried making the magic memory stick on two PC's now, both running XP, and neither worked. But there's a chance both were 64-bit systems. I'll just look into them and confirm if they are and maybe try finding another pc. Thanks for your response, though. No one seems very willing to help me.

You posted less than an hour ago, and you're already complaining. Suck it up, you're not encouraging help. You do realize the OP responded to you after 48 pages of this...

I was talking about other forums I've tried to get help on. This was like the one place that supplied an excellent guide and then actually responded.

@bstir

Try using a Memory Stick 1GB or below.

@rpgfreak9

The Datel Tool battery more then likely is booting into service mode but the Magic memory Stick hasn't been created properly for it to boot the Pandora Menu. Unfortunately there is nothing else I can suggest. You just have to keep trying different Memory Sticks and PC combinations till you get a combo that works.

unfortunately the Pandora's battery maker cannot detect a bad logical format....have you been able to make the stick or where you unable to launch it? explain in detail!

Has anyone else encountered the pos=0x0000E080 error and managed to fix it? I ordered a memory card adaptor to put recovery files on it.

I've tried now with my 4gb, however same issue. I'll try to get my hands on a 1gb, however prices for these things still aren't cheap. I have always disliked Sony's proprietary memory format.

Any other suggestions? Is it possible the Pandora is defective? If it is, I would rather try that route first, as it would not cost me any additional $$ (I should be able to exchange if I know it's defective).

I'll try to follow the steps though...

bstir,

Are you using a the Datel Tool or a regular battery (pandora's). If you're using a regular battery you probably hardmodded the wrong wire. That my thought, and most stores check the returns before you can trade it back. I would by the Datel Tool.

Hey everyone I'm new at this stuff and I was just wondering...is there a difference between installing 3.71 M33-2 and the 3.71 official firmware?

Oh and does it matter what update we choose (3.71, 3,80, 3.09) or all they all the same?

If you want to download homebrew stuff. Such as games, movies, plug-ins, music. for free! Click the one that shows 3.71 m33-2 or higher!

If you want a psp that looks like out of the box software. Download official 3.71. (this doesn't allow you to download any homebrew sites)

Sorry, That I can't be any clearer

Lets make this a hell of a lot more clear.

With official Sony firmware, you can only do what Sony intended you to do....play games using a UMD, listen to music, watch mp4's, and look at pics.

Now, custom firmware is a whole different story. Using custom firmware, you play classic systems such as NES, SNES, and gameboy, play any ps1 games you own, and rip your UMD's which then allows you to play the game off your memory stick. You can also easily change the way your psp looks using plugins such as cxmb, a plugin that allows you to apply a butt load of custom themes created by fellow custom firmware users.

This is just scratching the surface, there are cheat devices such as cwcheat, plugins that allow you to listen music anywhere on the xmb, and plugins that allow you to take screen shots of what you are doing.

There are a million things you can do using custom firmware that you cannot do using official firmware.

If you want to unlock the true potential of your hardware, custom firmware is a must.

I am using the PANDORA BATTERY 3.6V 1800mAH TOOL.

I tried using a 1gb SANDISK Memory Stick Pro Duo. Everything works up until the point previously stated. I'm thinking it has to be a defective tool, as this should work. I've tried other guides, nothing has worked.

I've never installed custom FW on this unit before. New PSP Slim, Firmware version 1.8. Any help is appreciated.

If the Tool Battery is turning on when inserted (Green Led) then it should be working. There have been numirous users that have tried allot of diffrent setups (Memory Cards/PC) before getting a setup that actually worked properly.

If you feel it is the Tool battery then ask for an exchange. The only other thing I can suggest is trying a 512MB and use diffrent PCs till you find a combo that works.

Last Monday, I ordered the Datel Tool and it took them five days the process the order. And they said after the process it would take about three weeks to deliver to Texas. Cost came out to be 36 dollars including S&H. Some sites like e-bay were selling better deals by giving memory sticks also, but some people are saying the memory sticks are fake. Has any one heard of that? Because, they were $42 for the Datel Tool and 1gb magic memory card!

Just saying It takes a long-time for Codejunkies to respond the your order. Or maybe it was just a busy week?
