Can somebody help getting a bit confused here i've just got a pandora battery and now about to make a Magic Memory Stick do i have to install fw 3.71 M33-2 first to unbrick my psp or can i go high.

also reading the opening post it say this
3.71 M33-4
1.50 ADD ON-2 for 3.71 M33

3.80 M33
3.80 M33-5
1.50 ADD ON for 3.80 M33

3.90 M33-3
1.50 ADD ON for 3.90 M33

but in the picture down a bit when installing fw it say the highest fw is 3.95 gen is this correct or can i go straight to 4.01

any ideas which firmware version is best for a fat psp?????????

it will install 3.71 automatically to begin with... then once you reboot with the regular battery you can choose to install whichever higher version you want...

go with 4.01 m33-2 it runs every game i've tried fine

During the magic memory stick conversion part, everything went pretty well until I had to copy the PSP folder in the ADD-ON over to the root of the memory stick. It gave me an error saying that it couldn't copy the 390.PBP file since it couldn't find the specified file. Does that mean it was never extracted?

I have that too. The 390.PBP file is in the PSP folder, GAME under UPDATE_4. It's just it refuses to be copied for me, that's all >_>

Use mspformat.exe
Any file gets to 99% and hangs when transferring files onto the ms, reformat it using that program and it should solve the problem.

Actually, that's not really the problem anymore... I tried redownloading it and redoing the whole process since it wasn't working and now the problem is that the files won't copy at all. Whenever I go to copy them into the memory stick, it'll start and then all of a sudden the memory stick gets disconnected from the computer. But on my PSP it still says "please wait" but my computer says that the M drive (my ms) isn't there anymore...

There was also something else I noticed, but I didn't think it was a problem since all the files were downloaded into my memory stick. Normally, apparently you're supposed to get a screen like this:

But mine went straight from this (when it's extracting the files)

to this

Basically, it never asks me if I'm sure I want to install the files. I thought something was wrong at first, but when I checked all the files had been extracted into my MS, so I didn't worry about it too much. However, since my other files refuse to copy over, I thought that maybe this also had something to do with it.

@thacks1,The card can be placed before or after inserting the pandora battery no harm done. I always put the ms in before because the slim psp has spring eject and the ms has ejected flying across the room several times.

Skyrius,When files refuse to copy over to the ms, usually reformatting the card solves the problem. If reformatting still gives you those types of issues, use another PC since your PC unmonts the ms for some strange reason. After using another PC it still malfunctions that card is done for. Where you able to make the MMS?

Click here back to page 55, it gives an explination has to how to transfer and create the MMS manually.

@Bizz3,
Use DC7 if you want to install 4.01 M33-2 directly without having to upgrade. Skip down to step 24 and follow the tutorial. http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3780

I wouldn't recommend it though, backup up your NAND first. 3.71 M33-2 after applying the upgrade patch is the only bug free CFW on the planet, that's why its the default install of UUV3.

Well I got the black screen of doom (where there's the green light but no menu), so I'm assuming it didn't succesfully install. I'm not using vista though, so I guess my computer just decided to skip the last step. I know someone posted a way to make a MMS manually on page 55, but it's a little confusing.

For those wanting to go to 3.80 M33 or 3.90 M33 or 3.95 GEN just go straight to it and skip the 3.71 M33-4 update.

I'm on an ofisial 3.90 on a slim psp and I have the magic memory stick created from this quide and waiting for my Datel tool to arrive. can some one explain me what that meens? i want to upgrade to 3.90m33-3. thenx in advance!

No one has answered you because it can't be any more clear then what is already there. You can go straight to whatever firmware you want after the instillation of 3.71 M33-2. you do not have to install the 3.71 M33-4 update unless you want to stay at 3.71 M33-4 custom firmware.

*sigh* Anyone know of any other way to make a magic memory stick? My computer keeps skipping the last step, so the stupid Datel battery doesn't read it and all I get is that black screen with the green light. Also, if I try to use the CMD.exe to run it and make it manually (like that guy showed us on pg 55) I get this stupid error saying 'procedure entry point SetEnvironmentStringsW could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll'. So now my computer apparently missing parts as well >_>
