Ok... When I turn my 1GB memory card into a Magic Memory card can I put it back to a regular memory card so I can save stuff on it again?

Is it safe to go back to the official firmware if you have custom firmware?

Yes, just put it into your now Custom Firmware PSP and go to System settings, Format MS.
I recommend you put your psp into usb mode and delete them manually then format via the PSP.

Yes, all you have to do is downgrade your PSP to a point before you had custom firmware (1.50 is normal for phats and 3.60 is normal for slims). Just turn off your PSP completely! Then insert your Pandoras Battery, it should show a bunch of text. Then choose the downgrade option.

All you have to do is use the Pandora Battery and Magic memory Stick that you had created with this guide.
When Pandora menu comes up choose to flash 3.71 Official firmware instead of the 3.71 M33 firmware.

First off I would like to say this is an amazing guide. I have just recently purchased a psp fat from my friend with 4.05 firmware. I was thinking about purchasing a datel tool and a magic memory card. I was wondering if it is possible to do from 4.05 firmware, or if there was any problems I may occur during this process.
Thanks

Hi everyone. This is my first post, and it is intended to give a warm thanks to Larry and all the other people that helpfully posted in this thread.
Today I successfully downgraded a brand new Slim, OFW 3.95, using a Datel Tool battery, Sony MS 1G and, quoting Larry, "following the guide!". Laptop with XP.
I have to say that i have read virtually every page of this thread in the last couple of weeks (yes, all posts on the 50+ pages...) and the answers to whatever questions popped to my restless mind are there, so... in fact search before you ask the questions that have been answered in the guide and over and over...
It worked flawlessly on my first attempt, and i can tell you I was quite anxious because i had never even used a PSP before... (this was a gift to my 10 year old son).
In less than 20 minutes I had it all done and it is now playing iso's like a charm.
One little detail I found out that could help others: in the step where the guide tells you (and shows the picture) that you have to copy/paste the "PSP" folder and 150.pbp file to the MS, also copy the 395.pbp file together with the other 2, if you are planning to update to CFW 3.95 GEN, because you'll need it. If it does not go there, when you run the update to 3.95 GEN, you will get a message saying that 395.pbp can't be found. This file is not shown on the picture in the guide because presumably there wasn't version 3.95 when it was made, but now it comes in the ADD ON folder as well.
Again, thank you Larry for being so clear doing the guide. People, just read it and follow it to the letter!!

I've done everything to a T with this tutorial. Bought a Tool battery, MMS through psp usb, everything. Now I can't install costum firmware.
Whenever I choose to install 3.71 M33-2 or the official 3.71 it begins installing and about 10 seconds in it says:
PSAR decode error pos0x00377720
...and shuts down.
How can I fix this or how can I get my psp to the way it was. I dumped my nand before doing anything.
Please help.

If at the step where I put in the memory stick in the PSP Slim it's blank, does that mean incompatible MS?

I tried using this method and I've run into an issue. I finished making the magic memory stick using SanDisk 512mb Memory Stick PRO Duo. At the point where I put in my hard-modded battery (I decided to save money and use the spare battery I had instead of getting a datel) all that happens is my power light comes on. The screen is blank and nothing happens. Have I done something wrong, or should I just try getting a datel battery?

I just want to give thanks to Larry for providing these files and an easy-to-understand guide!
Bought myself a PSP FAT last week and i've been dying to be able to play old SNES and NES games on it. After ordering a 1GB memory stick and a Datel battery converter, I can safely say everything went fine. The converter turned my standard PSP battery into a TOOL one, CFW3.71 M33-2 installed fine and the battery was changed back with no issues.
Right now, i'm just charging it so I can upgrade to CFW3.90 and the 1.5 addon!

would anything bad happen to the MS if you removed it from the psp before it finished formating using the program from this guide?

SO does this guide work with vista? Isn't there an updated version of the downgrader software that works with vista now?
What problem am I most likely to run into with vista while following this guide? How can I avoid the problem(s)?

My computer flashes this but then automatically goes straight to the credits last page.

That is the step it sorta skips
Is there another way to do this without the installer?
