@billyclub

Have you tried downloading the part 1 and part 2 files from this guide recently? The 401.pbp should already be in those files.

Yes, I downloaded parts 1 and 2 a few days ago. When I goto run the 4.01 M-33 updater, when it goes to the black screen, it will say "401.pbp not found. Do you want to download it from the internet?"

If I select "Yes" to download from the internet, it will get stuck on "Please wait..", no activity on the MS light. But I downloaded the 401.pbp file to my computer, copied it to the \PSP\GAME\UPDATE folder, and that didnt work either. Is the PSP suppose to have no activity / MS light flashing when it says "Please wait.." ?

Look in the psp/game/mux20/update_6 folder if 401.pbp is there, remove the other one you placed. Or format the ms and start over again. Then go to mux20, install and run the 4.01m33 first, then go back to mux20 and install and run the 4.01m33-2.

I haven't touched my PSP in over a year and recently have been wanting to play with it again. I downgraded to 1.5 way back when but am using devhook .46, so I obviously need to upgrade. I read the instructions on page 1 and everything seems easy enough. My question is, after going from 1.5 to 3.52 M33-4, which FW should I upgrade to from 3.52? I don't know what the differences are from 3.71 to 4.01, so I guess I should just upgrade to 4.01 since it's the latest?

And by the way, what's the 1.5 add on for the CFW for 3.8 to 4.01?

From 3.52 M33, go to 4.01 M33 (which is the latest). If you have old homebrew it may need the 1.50 addon. Newer homebrew dosent need the 1.50 addon.

Since I have no idea what homebrew is (what is it?), I'm guessing I won't need the add on? And thanks for the quick reply.

oh yeah, once getting custom firmware, you can delete devhook. Better to just reformat the memory stick

Yeah, I should just reformat the stick completely before starting with CFW right?

I have a new problem. I don't know if anyone else had the same problem after upgrading to 4.01 M33-2, but I lost my PSP Internet connection. I went to add my network again and after putting in my WPA key on the PSP, I ran a test connection. It will say "connecting to access point", then "exchanging key information", then back to "connecting to access point" again and then "exchanging key information" again until it times out. I can't tell if I entered something wrong when I keyed in my WPA key, or if theres something wrong with my PSP. If I entered the WPA key wrong, wouldn't I get an error message like "Wrong/Invalid WPA key. Try again"?

I know I could reset my router and get a new WPA key, but that would mean I would have to go through the hassle of re-entering everything on every computer in my network. If I format the memory stick and try it again, would that work? Thanks.

larrylje, another great guide.Just hope it gets alot of hits via search bar as it was meant to be used.

@ billyclub:you sure it's a WPA key?I always thought it was a WEP key.I'm guessing you have a PAL psp....Nonetheless,do you know you the SSID of your network?Try doing auto search for connection, and find yours. If it the whole process of exchanging information and connecting to connection occurs again, then I recommend manually typing in the SSID of your connection.Other than that,I dunno.

PSP #1:Fat,3.71 M33-4 CFW with 1.50-2 kernal add-on.
PSP #2:Slim,3.71 M33-4 CFW

For wi-fi, you have a choice of WEP or WPA. The WPA is supposed to be more secure.
I dont think its a memory stick problem, but a wi-fi one.
You may not have to change/reset the WPA key again, just make sure you have the correct one. Scan and enter those keys into the PSP, as I'm sure you already know how. But if all that fails, then its worth changing the keys to all the wireless PCs you have.
With lynksis, all one needs to do is open up their router web page and change from there, individually from eack PC.

Let's keep the queries to upgrading custom firmware - you know what the guide is about - not internet connection.
For questions that are NOT related to the guide start a new thread - after you have searched first of course.

absolutely wonderful guide. it didn't help me with the issue I'm having. Aperently flashing didn't help with the random curupt configuration hit O to restore default error I get. I can live with it though.

One thing you might want to add is that once you choose the firmware you want to update by pressing x you must exit then upgrade. All mux does is create and update folder for you. I was lost when it came to the mux thing until I realized I had to exit then use the update it created. you know for all us mux newbies

The guide already tells you to choose the firmware in MUX you want then after that run the update via Game Menu Memory Stick. I don't know how more clear it can be.

This guide doesn't say those words. The Pandora + Magic Memory Stick guide says it. As to it's meaning well it means what it says. You can go straight to whatever firmware you want. you do not have to install the 3.71 M33-4 update unless you want to stay at 3.71 M33-4 custom firmware.

Hi all I have a modded psp with firmware 1.5, I want to play new games and old emulators so I assume id have to follow the updates on page one of this posting to enable the psp to do that? And I have a 32mb pro duo stick in the modded psp, but if I replace it with a 1gb does the firmware go away or just the games and stuff? And I have the fat psp if that makes a difference. I am sorry for asking these noob questions, and thanks all.
