Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. I have the actual game preordered and I got it this week but, I can't play the damn game lol. I use the swap method and play my back-up DVD9 but I payed $80 for my game with shipping so I wish I can play the legit copy. Oh well, atleast I can play the game one way or another. I wonder if Nintendo is playing with us and doing this on purpose lol. I'm going to be so excited when the Wiikey update for Brawl is done. Looks like the D2ckey owners can't talk down to us wiikey owners anymore.

By the way has anybody figured out the solution to the error 001 on Wiikey yet? I don't want to hear the 3x, 6x crap, I want a solution not a work around.

I think it's more fail that the developer allowed the game to be playable with only the first layer. I mean ... geeze. I don't think that it's beyond their knowledge that the modding scene can already rip single-layer discs. It's kinda stupid that they didn't force the game to only be playable with the full disc, or even put some of the required content on the second layer.
Oh well. It's mistakes like this that even make the modding scene possible in the first place. =P
And once again, bumping the Error 001 problem. Has anyone discovered anything new? Yeah ... I thought so ...

i know you don't want to hear it, but i think the only solution is to change disc drive spped to 3x. i have only encountered the error once, and it was almost immediately after i upped my read speed to 6x. i think the wii just has trouble reading dual layer discs at that speed.

Couple of questions:
1) It is confirmed that the game will FULLY work on a DL disk right? As long as you follow those instructions which basically requires burning 2 dvd's.
2) As far as burning the dual layer disk goes.... is it a different iso compared to the first dvd? I have the Vortex .iso and wanna know if it is this same 4gb file to burn the DL disk as well as do the 15% update.
3) Does anyone have any idea how future US updates will work since we did the 15% trick and it slightly updated to a Japanese firmware.

i did the full update and mine still says 3.1u i am fairly sure. it is confirmed working on dl discs. vortex? i think i downloaded a vortex one a while ago and it was really mario strikers.

That's true, it's funnier to think that Nintendo failed than the possibility of doing it on purpose. When I first heard about the DVD5 version of the game I couldn't believe it. I had no interest in it at all until I dound out that it works on the my Wiikey. after having my friend download it ( He has FIOS) it was within' couple days the DVD9 version was released and now I have a back-up of the full game and the game has only been out for a week. I didn't get into the modding scene until late PS2 generation but it is a lot of fun keeping up with it. I wish I got into it earlier though.

U R right about vortex, that was the 1st one I dloaded...then deleted.
I cant think of the name right now, but I'm fairly sure i have the real SSBB. Either way, will that one .iso file work for the update AND the DL disk to make it full version??

hi, im not sure if this question has been asked yet.
but my backup copy of the dvd9 cannot get past the first loading sequence. after the game loads up, i go into the game i would get a whitescreen after loading. i've tried using several types of media but they all freeze up after loading.
i was wondering if its a problem with my modchip.
i believe im running wiikey with 1.9g as well as 3.1J wii fw.
i got a guy to install the chip for me so im not sure if he actually put the a wiikey in or not.
if anyone can help me out, i would really appreciate it.
p.s: i used imgburn, with 2.4x burn with verbatim, memorex and philips dvd.

The reason that I specifically asked I didn't want to hear the 3x, 6x is thing because it's completely irrelevant. It only works for half of the people out there and the other half of the people, including me, still gets the error on 3x. The error 001 is not a disc read error; It shouldn't make any difference if it's 3x or 6x. Error 001 detects unauthorized devices, it has nothing to do with reading the disc; besides my Wii is on 6x and the swap trick works fine. I'm watching my friend play Brawl as we speak with my DVD9 copy. Maybe, just maybe, the 3x makes it bypass that error but again that only makes it a work around not a solution. It's not only happening to me it's happening to many Wiikey owners out there.

Has anyone heard any updates on the Wiikey team's progress of the update for SSBB? I am asking this because I want to be ready for the US release, and don't really want to try the 15% trick to play the J version.

I GOT the DVD9 version WORKING on D2CKey! :D
u just gota use a Dvd5 version that's patched with Wii Update Remover to load it up to the "PRESS ANY KEY" part...then take the D5 out and replace it with the dual layer D9 disc and you're ready to go! :D good luck!

I'm having trouble with Event Match 4 Kit vs Wario. When i beat Wario 3 times he's gone and the game just sits there with me stuck there until i jump off the clouds. Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions on what to do?

Every nzb I have tried for the DVD9 version of smash has failed and i have no clue why. It has to be my computer or something because I know the same nzb worked for other people. I use Newsbin Pro with Giganews and if anyone has any ideas please respond. I am going to go crazy if i dont get the full version of smash soon.

It may be happening to many people, but it is not happening to all, which makes it nearly impossible to troubleshoot. The problem is that there are so many different factors that could be going into it. A different brand of DVD9, a different burner, a different burning program, a different burn speed, a different disc drive speed, etc. There are just so many factors out there that could cause this problem.
The fact is that the DL version of the game has only been out a few days, so there just hasn't been enough time to figure out what is causing the problem.

Hello,
I have problems with brawl too. Ok I have a Pal Wii and Wiikey.
With the SMG update because SMG works fine for me. And I have the newste firmware of my wii 3.1e. I had the half game of brawl backup on a normal dvd-r 4,7Gb Verbatim. I did the duplicated channel update and i could play half of the game :). But then I got the whole japanese game backup i burned it on a dvd-r dual layer 8,5gb verbatim. Only now i get this error: Error #001 unauthorized device has been detected. I dont know what to do I did everything right, right? Oh, and the disc swapping trick at the main menu didn't work for me I can play videos but its crappy :S. can somebody help me :O i would appreciate it :)?
