Hey guys, after I backup SSBB(U), I was wondering if I could use NERO START SMART to burn it on to a DL DVD ( Memorex +R), instead of using Imgburn since I use Nero for all my other backups. Secondly, I was wondering how long it took you guys to actually backup the original SSBB(U) using frii dump 0.4.0.

THANK YOU

@Landoncz
If the burners not that old - like past few years - it more then likely does burn dual layer.
Post make the make and model if you like.
Double click on my computer then right click on the drive - pick properties then the hardware tab. The make and model is listed there.

I burned twice at 2.4x on 2.4x max speed Memorex +R DL (riteks). Once with Nero and once with Img Burn 2.4.0.0. They both get the same read error that my retail copy gets.

I tried booting up other games and they all work. I have a japanese copy on DL that I burned with Nero that works.

Any ideas?

The ISO that you have is all dummy data. Even if its the right size if it isn't ripped using a dvd that can read the disks such as the LG drives then your rip only picked up data that the disk threw at it. Sorry to say this but you wasted your time...

Some guy posted a workaround on the psx scene forums. Supposedly if you mess up the wiikey via software then the Wii won't detect it and a RETAIL copy of Brawl will work. He says he tried it twice and it works.

- Get any update for the Wiikey 1.9b or 1.9g for example

- When the update is around 50-75% pull the plug on your Wii

- It should screw up the Wiikey and your wii won't be able to read burned discs

- Brawl should work

If it doesn't then it's probably a dirty lens..

It's a sort of on/off switch for the Wiikey because if you want to play burned games again all you have to do is use the Wiikey recover and update back to 1.9g and everything should go back to normal...and Brawl won't work..

So recap:

Turn Wiikey off -

Do an update and plug out the console during the update to render the Wiikey's chip software useless. Somehow this affects Brawl's code that allows it to figure out whether your Wii has a modchip or not and the regular US RETAIL Brawl should work..

Turn Wiikey on -

Use your Wiikey recovery cd to fix the Wiikey and re-update it back to it's normal settings with 1.9g and also don't forget to config 1.3 to switch back on whatever you had..

I am 100% sure this works.. Yes it's time consuming as hell but it's really the only thing we have for now..atleast until the Wiikey team releases an update for the Wiikey that somehow circumvents Brawl finding the chip.

What I did exactly... in simple easy to read steps

1. downloaded 1.9b from the Wii firmware updates thread that is stickied to this forum.

2. burned it

3. proceeded with the update as normal then at 70% I plugged out the cable on the back of my Wii..then waited for like 15 seconds (for no reason)

4. When I turned my Wii back on the 1.9b disc couldn't be read so I figured the Wiikey was not working... THIS IS GOOD

5. I popped in Brawl and splish splash BOOM.the "Super Smash Bros Brawl" intro came up.

6. I smiled... and posted this thread.

YAY Now to go and play Brawl. Spread the word everyone!

@wiigame
Yes you can use Nero to burn it. Just my 2 cents ImgBurn is better at dual layer burning then Nero - handles the layer break better.

I've seen two people saying they couldn't and two stating it worked just fine.
The thing is, none of them stated their current modchips...
More information on this please.

Thank you emcubed, just followed your steps, burned my disc to a Verbatim DVD+R DL at 2.4x, came up as System update in my Wii Channel, and now Brawl is activated, haven't tried original disc again after.

Yup... Emcubed you did it...
why is it that I have like 20 kb download speed and some have like 200kb or so??
But yea I have input on Brawl Working with the wiikey, if you read the forum earlier you saw witch cable to disconect to ad the switch, the best and smallest switch would be the ones you find on toys, its not bulky and its cheap. FOr me I have a:
1.9g WiiKey
3.1U Wii
and I have duplicate channels of Japanese..

I installed the switch, I turn it off and it works, it didnt even ask me to update anything. SO I can Play it now..
Does anyone know how to put you game save to a SD card? We need to hack that asap.

CONFIRMATION THAT RECOVERY DISC WORKS
The guy on the PSX forums tried the Wiikey recovery disc THREE TIMES over and he said it worked each time to fix the Wiikey...so you guys don't have to be scared of corrupting your Wiikeys permanently anymore.
