Yes, I just did the update to 1.9s but my burned copy of Brawl still doesn't work! I don't understand, it was working before...

It really sucks cause when Brawl was released I bought a retail copy and then realized it didn't work so I sold it for $40 (losing $15) and just burned a copy and now the burned copy doesn't work!

:(

Anyone else who can help please do.

Hey, I have a PAL Wii and a Wiikey, I just downloaded a NTSC version of Super Smash Brothers Brawl and it asks to update? Should I? Would it Brick? I tried Brick Blocker but it says my ISO is not valid :(. Isn't the latest 1.9s firmware supposed to block the updates? Also isn't the latest firmware 1.9s not 1.9g as said in the first post?

SSBB has an update which is required to play the game. There is no way it can run without the update. If your Wii is updated online to 3.2E then you will be safe from bricking. SSBB will update your Wii only with the game update and not the firmware update.

i downloaded a single layer version and i have the following problems:

Everything plays norm as long as its on 50hz mode; 60hz=black screen but game still plays (you can hear it)
Space E. mode has a slowdown of frame-rate
films dont play

also, i noticed that the first time i played it i didnt create a save file which oddly enough never caused the slowdown i see in space emissary, it played normal, but after i created a save file it started to slow down.

Anyone have any clues on how to fix these problems?

My wii btw is PAL 3.2 with a 1.9s wiikey. SSBB is a patched NTSC

Just an update...after about 10 coasters I think i got it right.

Updated my Argon firmware to 1.8. Updated Wii firmware to 3.2. Burned with ImgBurn with layer break on FujiFilm DL media. Updated from SSBB disk.

Works great. I tried without layer break and got to a white screen where nothing happened so did another burn and it now works. The Wii does make a lot more noise now (laser?).

Basically Im really confused about how to play SSBB on my PAL wii which is equipt with an argon chip (inc the 4 extra threads) - everywhere is saying something different + the advice only seems to be concerning the wiikey chip T_T
Should i download a dvd5 version - will i loose any game modes or anything if i do? and then after that what patches do i need to apply to the iso image so it doesn't brick my wii? thanks a lot

Yea so I was trying to make a copy of a back up SSBB using Nero. It read around to 7% I got an error message. So I tried extracting the iso from the copy to my pc using ImgBurn. It poped up a error message around 7% also. Then I dled the SSBB iso then try to burn it on a dual layer +Rdl windata using ImgBurn. I got a error message "Optimum Power Calibration Failed! Reason: Power Calibration Area Is Full" Any Ideas?

@Hillbelly
There's a few causes for the power calibration error but usually it's firmware and/or media.
Make sure the firmware on the drive is update and try taking down the burn speed a notch.
Still a no go or no firmware update then switch the media.

I have a single layer disc with the green screen right after the warning and it says loading. I run a DVD5 Jap. Version on my JP Wii and Wiikey. Am I suppose to press a button or button combination to skip the opening?

Hello everyone,

This site is wonderful and has helped me tremendously. I have a success story I wanted to share, with step by step instructions on how I got my SSBB to work. This is my first post here so bare with me.

I currently have an (A)chip Wii (bought the Wii the first day it came out) I installed the Wiikey no issues at all.

For my dump, burn, and play of SSBB without any errors or coasters I did as followed.

I bought SONY DVD+R DL, media BestBuy had them for 25.99$ for 10 at the time.

I grabbed SSBB from a buddy and began to use FRIIDUMP .4 on it without any issues what so ever. Perfect dump Filesize: 7.92GB (8,511,160,320) is what you should aim for, and for those getting the file from else where can use this number as a reference. LG 8164 was used to dump the image.

After that I used IMGBURN at a x2 speed (SONY DVD burner)with the default burning options (did not touch one thing with IMG burn) other than burn the .iso onto my SONY DL disk.

IMG finished the burn successfully and reached 100%.

Turned on my wii without testing SSBB just yet.

I updated the firmware of the wii via the control panel method.

I placed the SSBB disk in. (Icon showed up with 'updated needed message')

Clicked on the icon, let it run its course.

Few seconds later, SSBB screen showed up in the wii channel.

No duplicate channels were made.

1.9g beta was the currently flashed on the wiikey.

SSBB works flawlessly on everymode, single, multi etc...

I also tested my old backed up games and they work flawlessly. (BTW I use HP media, I find them as reliable as SONY media)

Please feel free to ask any questions or if one of the steps is a bit jumbled and is difficult to understand. Wanted to give back a bit to the people that introduced me to the wiikey.

Sorry if this has already been posted, just trying to help out.

hi, im kinda new here, so if u could help me it would be great...
bought a wii 2 months ago in the US, i modded it but dont know which mod is it, i updated to 3.2U (i think thats the last update, just last week) and play backup games without any problem. Once i got a backup copy of brawl it didnt read and showed a disc error, im wanted to play ot and consider to buy the original but i dont want to pay if with the original i still could have read problem, so my question is, will a kinda new wii have problem reading the original DL and will the mod get in the way? and how can i see which mod i have, do i have to open and see something?

I got my Wii last month and got it modded. Worked for all my backups, but not SSBB. I have an Argon chip and turns out all I needed was to update the chip. So I would try to find out what mod you have and then see if you need it updated.

If the Wii is only 2 months old the modchip is prolly D2CKey but I can't be 100% certain. If it is, then it should play the original SSBB and in fact if the Wii is only 2 months old and it's a GC2-D2C model (most likely) then it should play original SSBB regardless of the chip. You can check here.

http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php

I'd still try and identify the modchip because if it's not a D2CKey then it is likely to need updating in the future.
