So heres my specs Wii with firmware 3.2u and Wiikey 1.9g

I have been playing my back ups for awhile now and decided to update to
3.2 because i read it was safe to do so.
Now heres my problem after the update my wii will not recognize anything that I put into the drive. I've placed my back ups and originals in the drive and it says unable to read disc or it'll tell me to eject the disc and restart my wii.
My wii won't read the 1.3 config disc or the 1.9b recovery disc.

What should I do? Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Yeah mine won't read any gamecube games or my Zelda twilight princess. What do you think the problem is? The lens?

I'm not really sure.. it worked for me just fine before with these cheaper DVD+R's that I've been using...

Maybe the new update will only recognize better, DVD-R's discs? Should I spend some money and buy those instead and re-burn a game to try? Or is there an easy solution to it?

Interesting... I'm using Verbatim DVD+R maybe we should try DVD-R but that would suck because my entire back up library is DVD+R. Still though why does my originals get these errors too? It must be a hardware problem.

you seem to be misinformed when you say "It won't read the 1.9b recovery disk".

As a matter of fact, it's isn't SUPPOSED to read the recovery disc at all. By looking, you wouldn't even know the recovery disc is in there (that's the point and beauty of it, since if you are at the point of using recovery disc you won't be able to read anything).

Try doing a proper recovery (I.e. put in the recovery disc, reset the wii, leave it on the main screen for 3-5 minutes and reset the wii). This should fix your problem, but ONLY if it's related to the wiikey firmware. I don't know why the 3.2 firmware would mess anything up. I dl/ed the 3.2U firmware and I can still read discs.

I did follow the instructions about leaving it in for 3-5 minutes.

What I meant about the recovery is that it seemed to not have worked since it won't read anything.

You just have to put the disc on and leave it right? You don't actually click on the Game Disc on the Wii menu correct?

I did both I believe, no success...

my last bit of advice is to keep doing power on/off, standy on/off etc. after a recovery until it starts working. My recovery wasn't successful immediately, took a couple resets to get the wii resuscitated again.

Am I suppose to get an error when I reset it with the 1.9b disc in?

assuming you've recovered your wiikey. After leaving it on for 3-5 minutes and pressing reset one last time, are you supposed to see a GC logo?

ok this is what happens when I put the recovery disc in. After 30 secs or so a black screen will appear saying that "an error has occurred. Press the eject button and remove the disc, then turn the wii console off and refer to the wii operation manual for trouble shooting

Just curious, did you try the reflash with the 1.9b to disable the wiikey? Or did you just update to 3.2u online?

I myself updated to 3.2U while I already had 1.9g...

I haven't tried neither 1.9b boot disc or 1.9g to see if it would read.. Should I put the 1.9b boot disc to downgrade back?

Maybe I didn't understand you. Did you do any tricks(switch mod or reflash with 1.9b) prior to updating to 3.2u? Or did you just update online?

No, absolutely nothing. I was at whatever version SMG updated me latest (after I put 1.9g to make it compatible) and just turned on the Wii, went to system update and ran it...

Did I do it wrong? :(

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ATTENTION: As I have said earlier, the Firmware method to stop the Wiikey is effective, but RISKY, as all procedures involving Firmware updates are.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The main problem is that it could lead to firmware corruption, which will leave the Wiikey in a state of Suspension and even the Recover discs may not work.

Please, make sure that, when burning you Wiikey update/config discs you take the utmost care to ensure successful burns:
1) Use good quality DVD-R media
2) Do not run any other processes when burningthe discs
3) Verify the burn, if possible

NOTE: In the past we have seen episode of firmware corruption which were 'RESISTANT' to recover. In a few instances, users had to run the Recover disc 15 to 20 times to successfully recover the Wiikey.

Finally, when it comes to updating/recovering your Wiikey, there are only three ways:
1) Wii can read Wii backups: then use regular update/config discs
2) Wii cannot read Wii backups, but read Gamecube discs: then use update/config discs in GCOS mode
3) Wii does not read either Wii or Gamecube backups, then the RECOVER disc is the only solution, unless there is a physical problem, such as soldering, wiring, drive optics, dvd media burn, etc..

Where's the party?!?

Sounds good.

I downloaded the 1.9b recover that was filechopped, made a GCOS out of that one and burned it on a Verbatim DVD-R at 4x...

Turned on Wii, put the disc in, hit reset, waited 3-5 mins.. Pushed On/Off button, waited about 5 seconds, turned it back on, pushed the "A" button on the wii remote... no gamecube logo... so I hit reset again, waited 3-5 minutes, powered off, waited again, on again.. nothing.

Already did that procedure about 5 times now... Still no logo.. I'll go up to 20 times and then I'll post an update.

So like I read while waiting for the recovery disc to work I saw that the screen is supposed to go black..?

Well it didn't so I wasted my time.. :) :(

Unusual coincidence or did the 3.2U Online update killed my Wiikey?

Worked flawlessly before with any game I tried..

It works fine with any original game but backups.. of any sort, GCOS or regular aren't recognizable...

thanks for the help. I'm leaning towrds the fact that my wii has a physical problem if it can't read original retail games. I've tried recovery and it's not working. I just get a disc error.

Well like I mentioned on the other thread, I did get it to work eventually but after the 1.9g update failed (the TEST went ok, the actual WRITE said ReadID error..) then it went back to "dead state.."

Been trying it all over again, hopefully I can get it back and just leave it as it is once I get a GameCube pic!

I don't understand how the disc, which is not spinning, no signs of doing anything, can actually reset the firmware... Anyone knows how that actually works out?

UPDATE!

Ok finally got it to work...

So I got tired of using the recovery disc over and over again and I'm like "OK time to open this guy up and check the soldering points"

So I take it apart to check and I remembered I had put electrical tape over the chip so I decided to take it out...

I didn't reassemble the Wii and left it all open, using a screwdriver to push the on/off/reset/eject buttons... It detected the recovery disc on the 1st try... As I powered up, saw the GameCube logo.

Then I decided to try Super Paper Mario and I got no luck. So I put the recovery back in and saw the GameCube logo again. So I actually clicked "START" to see the black screen. Left it there for maybe 20 seconds and then powered off the Wii.

Powered it back on, saw the GameCube disc. The recovery disc that I was using was the plain file, no GCOS, no filechopping. Then since I had the same disc GCOS, filechopped, I put that in to see if it would recognize it as well. It did, saw the GameCube logo. Then I removed the disc and put in Super Paper Mario again, WORKED.

Then since I had just burned a 1.9g brand new disc, filechopped, GCOS I was like "Well here goes it again..." so this time the update was successful. Restarted, put in HACKED Config 1.3, loaded up the screen, changed REGION SETTING to ON, saved. Rebooted Wii, tried a couple of other backups, worked as well.

Super Mario Galaxy: worked.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: worked.

Mission Accomplished! :)
