Well when I put it in it did ask to update so I cancelled and shut it down. But I cant remember the last update that came with a game that I ran. Guitar Hero 3 maybe. My friend in my building has Rainbow Six 2 and he will be home in an hour, so I'm gonna try and see if that asks for an update. If it does I'm gonna update then try the disc again.

So you do have to update to play? Because if you do idk sounds like abad idea. Anyone have the pal or nstc version that can post a comment?

Yeah as of now. Im gonna try and see if Rainbow Six runs an update and then try again. I'd also like to hear feedback from people running NTSC version.

for those of us that don't play online, how would we update? is the update within the disc or would we have to go to MS website and burn a program to disc?

It's an update contained in the disc, but the update could be in a number of discs that come out in the same time frame, so a recent release may have the same update. This is why we need confirmation from someone that they just put it in and it booted up.

Relax for god's sake. I can confirm if you are running a legit copy (101-gta4) it works. No updates, no problems, long-ass intro though. I'm heading back.

Disconnnect from the internet, you dont want them to know your playing it now otherwise they will ban you from xbox live.

You relax man, did you read my post. I am running that rls. I got asked to update. But I haven't had an update in a while because I don't go on Live very often and it stays disconnected from the internet. But thank you for the reply because if what you say is true more than likely the same update will be on Rainbow Six. I just don't want to have any date/time association with GTA until the launch date when I will have my legit copy.

i disconnected from live, and change my time stamp on my console. i did not unplug the hd. 6% through the game so far. pretty good.

Are you using the iCON or 101 release?
Have they banned you from xbox live? If not then I can finally put my HD back on and start doing some missions :-)

ok so i changed my timestamp back, (while offline) changed my profile to offline and started live up. work fine just played matchmaking on halo 3. NOTE: i changed timestamp while offline. and yes its just the console settings.

Look, I wasn't speaking specifically to you. I was trying to calm the mass-hysteria and paranoia that's been going on lately. My last update was through Assassin's Creed I believe and when I put GTA IV in it didn't give me any updates. I did, however change the system time (under the system tab) to April 30th or something, but I doubt that is really necessary. I think the only legitimate argument is to not play the game on live if you are using a backup copy, but that goes for all backups.

Changing time is unnecessary and stupid, I just bought my 360 2 weeks ago and the console setting's year is around 2005 and I didn't even changed that and games like dark sector that is released last month works just fine fine no ban from live, yea, talking about changing time to a date after a game's release date to be safe, what a nonsense.

What difference does having the HDD plugged in make? Why should you unplug the HDD when you want to play?
