what leds should i use? these 0603 leds are SOOO small that i dont know can i even solder em :D
and does it have to be A surface mounted led? could i use a ultra-bright blue round led..? like 5mm..?
like that one there..

(not exactly THAT led but they look the same :P}
and does it matter on the electronic side that i use a round led insted of smt led..? like voltage ´things eg.... Help would be appreciated :I

You should be fine voltage wise as there are many types of LED's. However you will definitely need the 0603 LED's as the other ones are going to be to big (physically).

i think i saw a good tutorial for this at www.acidmods.com, it gave all details from what L.E.D to use right through to soldering.
Good Luck.

Should be fine (as long as they have the proper specifications). Though you won't be able to get them into the triggers if you go with the regular ones.

so...if i solder to the red spots, will leds be always on when psp is on...?
edit - your pics are SO helpful,i went to see em and now i really see how the wiring goes! :]
more edit - i'd like a triggermod like yours... :O
You used 0603's? and by the way, how your triggers are so bright..? (i think so) like compared to this.
+ isnt that resistor 10ohms, or 10k..?
and..isnt that hot glue keeping ur wires in place in your pics...?

Glad you like my pics.
Yeah man I used a 10 ohm in my set up.
I am using 0603 LED's (got em from llamma.com).
Not sure why their so bright, could be because the lights were off.
Hot glue is what is holding the LED's in place.
The way my LED's are set up they will turn off when the PSP is charging and blink when the battery is low.

i got only one question... (until i make more)
how in that psp full view pic one wire becomes two..?
that would be great to know, like what it looks inside the black thing there.
and i am going to use 0603's , one 10ohm resistor, usual wires, found at school, and i solder same spots as you to be sure :D
edit - yeah i made some questions more. are your LEDs always on when psp green LED is on? and if so, does your hold work..?
i'd rather like trigger LEDs on when green power LED on, and hold working than the hold triggered LEDs with hold broken.
+ how you got your triggers blinking when batt low..?

Basically how I got the wire to slit is I took the 1st wire and found a spot in the middle, then burned off some of the plastic sheath. This revealed the wire inside and then I just soldered the 4th wire where the wire was exposed. Ditto for wires 2 and 3.

The black stuff is electrical tape (to prevent shorts).
Yep
LED's are always on when PSP green LED is on. Hold does still work.
I agree with leaving hold function intact. I tried wiring it to the wi-fi switch (and just have it on all the time), but couldn't find the guide I saw a long time ago. :(
I didn't do anything special to get the LED's blinking, it's just the way they are powered. Same reason green power LED blinks when battery is low.
This is the guide I used, should come in handy. ;)

Thanks for everything, you have been great help :>
BUT...my dad went to partco today. i said blue 0603 leds.
and, dad bought...red,yellow and green 0805 leds.[AND NOT BLUE ONES!!!] (they were sold out :I) (0805 looks almost the same as 0603 but i think its like 0,5mm bigger)
so....im like pfff...but i think red 0805's are not as bright as blue 0603's, well, look this. <-- those are 0603 still, right? (i meant color) what i have wanted (blue is my fav colour) :<
but something like THIS would be okay, instead of blue...(still like the blue :<<)
so..if you could say that can i use 0805's without any damages? (red) and all other things same like yours.

Hmmm, never tried those man. Suppose if they accepted the same voltage as the 0603's you'd be fine. Try wiring two wires to the psp and test out 1 of the LED's (it'll just be brighter than if you had 2 LED's).

i tried one red 0805 like i soldered + and - wires to led and 10ohm resistor to + wire. then i just connected em to my psp charger (not original but works, and 5v)...the led lit up.
so i think they DO work.
but are they a LOT less brighter when there is 2 leds?. because with only one it wasnt even bright,i think so.
so is there a big bright difference on 1 led connected and 2 leds connected? i wouldn't like a triggermod whats not even bright. i do it once, and i do it well, would be better than quick sh*t
but once again,Thanks.
and i use red leds.

Nah man, the brightness goes down a little. I had to switch back and forth (between 1 LED and 2 LED's) quite a bit to see the difference.

That's what i want to hear! Thanks!
now i trust myself to succeed and i will maybe solder the leds and wires ready today... but i got some fears...when i open my psp (i have opened it up like 5 times, but always only faceplate off..)
so, im afraid that when i unplug the ribbon cable from powerboard to remove button bar,
i will destroy the cable/thing what keeps it in pobo. (black tab or something) and same thing in removing lcd. im almost ready to do it. and cant go further till i remove it + lcd.
i know i just gotta do it sometimes. but im just first time doing it. (removing ribbon cables)
and btw my psp charger is that kind i can change the volts (3-12v, if i remember right) and the positive and negative sides on charger ,not original. i think it doesnt matter because it charges maybe even little faster than original one. and works perfectly.

Here is a link to the guide I followed. You'll only need to go so far as to removing the LCD cage though. From here you can access the ABXY powerboard, which is what you will be working on.
Just make sure to take it slow and steady. Since it is your first time you don't want to rush it. ;)

Glad that someone keeps helping me , even when i ask stupid questions :I
my problem now: i cant get my smallest screwdriver under the powerboard ("pobo") ribbon cable.
tried that but couldn't just get it. i dont want to rush, as you said. :) and i know you cant help me to get it out. gotta do it.
and...where exactly you soldered the blue (positive) wire in your psp resistor 10k pic? i had a look to my pobo and there was no spot to solder, ,next to 4 holes square. your wire goes into something i dont see? i dont get that.. i knew the points to solder but now i seem to be wrong..? i dont need pic if you could explain that...?
so theres square formed from 4 holes. next to that, on right, is your wire soldered (seems like it) but on my pobo theres no hole(s) next to "square"..??
edit - i really buy THESE if my dad allows me to.
(hes not so happy about internet shops)
straight from dealxtreme,one dudes comment:
"Extremely useful if you want to practice for soldering the powerboard for LED mods.
I ordered 3 to practice and i screwed up on two and the last one was perfect. REALLY usefull if you dont want to mess up your original powerboard."
on those spare pobos i would try led swap, and soldering the triggermod wires.
if i would screw up,i'd just get another pobo
(you can get like 3 of then with $10) and try again.
and i think spending $10 is better than destryoing my whole psp in soldering accident :DD

I soldered onto a point I made. You have to scratch the surface and reveal some copper.
Those powerboards look pretty good, and their cheap, good find. $10 is a good investment for the powerboards. It will give you some lowered stress and practice.
I'm actually doing a led trigger mod for a friend today. I could take pics if you like, maybe a vid.

A VID? would you do it for me?
that would be like ULTIMATE GREAT! (for me, im not so skilled) :P)
do it if you can, please. it would answer almost all of my questions.
and please get the ribbon removals on tape :D
but that home-made point to make...hmmm... how did you know to scratch there?(right place) and how you knew it would be the positive(?) point?
and IF you shoot the vid, please upload it to rapidshare/sendspace/megaupload because then it would be the max resolution. if youtube, i think it will be kinda blurry :I
but shoot the vid. that would be so great. :)

This link has a pretty good pic of where you need to scratch (kind of in the middle of the 4 points on left and big hole on right). For me I just used a pocket knife and kept scratching little by little. When you start seeing a shiney metal color you've hit the sweet spot. You can then proceed to tinning the point with solder.
Edit:
Ok man, I got the vids with me. I just need to up them to one of those file hosting sites.
