For the first person that messages me, I'd be willing to flash their liteon for free.

The purpose being that when I did it, I would make a video tutorial on how to do it to try to help everyone.

So either someone who needs it done, or wouldn't mind it getting done by me so I can try to help make this tut which should help everyone.

If you don't mind, send me a message, and we'll make it happen.

thanks
wow, ur pretty awesome for that =], if you could, maybe try and address all the errors people have in the vid?
well like I said, I'm willing to do it for free for someone to help make that tut. I just need someone willing to volunteer their drive with a liteon...

Seriously I don't need to be lectured that vista sucks, just looking for a possible fix.
well your problem was already fixed, AND im not lecturing you, im sorry i didnt think you were actually looking for a fix since you already found it by using XP

you asked for a reason that youd get the error, i just told you what i think, dont be so surprised or distraught with my response, it is purely a matter of opinion after all

if you want a more technical reason
Microsoft patched alot of holes with Vista that used to exist in XP which cer
tain programs use to run properly... along with, of course, introducing a couple unique probelms with the OS

if heard of people fixing certain issues by running programs as an administrator, maybe that will help, im not sure

of course you could be unfortunate, like myself and the program just hates your hardware
Alright, I'm sorry for my response but yeah I am looking for a fix, I figured it was a vista problem when I went to XP so I was hoping there could be a fix so I could just use my main computer. But thanks again and ill keep plying with it.

you can just use your own lite-on if you have one and if no one volunteers to use their own.

Is it normal for your key.bin, identify.bin, and inquiry bin files to be 1kb in size???

I'd hate to "guess" that these file sizes are correct and flash when it's a bad read...seems small to me.

BTW, for anyone curious, XP is rounding up these file sizes, the exact numbers I have are 512 bytes for key.bin, 96 bytes for inquiry.bin, and 16 bytes for key.bin.

Does this sound right?...please let me know...I need smart people, lol

all my .bin files are 1kb. just remember 1 kb is 1024 bytes. All its really storing are numbers so they don't take up that much space.

you can just use your own lite-on if you have one and if no one volunteers to use their own.
Still don't have anyone to volunteer. And I would use my own, but I don't have a liteon. I did it for a friend who was visiting from out of state. So if I still had it, I wouldn't have this problem and I'd be able to make the vid with it.

Woo-hoo! Flashed 2 360's tonight! I got worried because when it came to the erasing part it froze up the drive. I had the extractor plugged up and everything, but the eject button wouldn't do anything with the drive, and if I tried to turn the xtractor on the comp would freeze. Thought I had bricked it, heh...

Turns out all I had to do was make a normal DOS boot disc, drop the lite-on erase file on it in a folder, the flash program, and my hacked bin file and finish the last part (erase/flash) in DOS mode. (couldn't use the cmd dos window within Windows)

So if anyone has probs with their drive not responding, don't worry!, as long as you have your key, identify, and inquiry file your fine!

Yeah just plan on doing about 80% of the process in DOS. Print off this guide, http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/iriez/lite-on.dosflash32.tutorial.pdf

Here's my steps; powered on xtractor (or ckv3) and ejected the drive, turned off the xtractor so I could push the drive halfway back in, powered it back on, then I used iPrep to find my DeviceIO port number, just had to click the "?" on the main program screen to find that out, closed iPrep...then DVDKey32 program in the cmd DOS window (within windows) to get my key/inquiry/bin/dummy.bin.

My command for that was "dvdkey32 ec00 4"

EC00 was my port (that i got from iPrep) and the 4 represents my USB com port I'm plugged into. Your's will most likely be different. If your unsure of your USB port number, go to Devices in your System area in the control panel, and when you plug in the USB & power on the xtractor or ckv3 you'll see it pop up.

Then used Firmtool to inject the dummy.bin into the ixtreme 1.5 firmware, which I was able to do in the cmd DOS within Windows itself. After I had my new ix15 file I had to create a DOS boot disc, drop a folder on the boot disc with lite-on erase prog, a copy of the new hacked bin file (which should be in your Firmtool folder), dosflash prog, and booted the comp with that.

Once in DOS, just erase using the l-o-eras.exe and your port number(in my case EC00) Anyway, keep erasing til ya get the status 72 reply, power cycle for 1 second, then type in the dosflash prog executable, it'll ask for the filename of the hacked file and it'll write 4 banks. Fin!

I hope this helps, took me awhile to piece all the info together myself. But seriously print that tut from the link and follow that as well, it'll help.

hm...

weird that a lot of people are having issues flashing and need to go to dos. I was able to do mine right in jungle flasher. Are the people who are needing to go into dos, do you guys have a via card? And did you uninstall the drivers and follow the guide for flashing with a via card?

EDIT:

I've received a couple messages asking, and just though I would post here. If you are having issues with getting portio installed, just download the portio dll file. You can get it from maximus's website. It's where he talks about the 360 xtractor. THere is a downloads section, and within it, a place to download the portio32.dll or so.

If you need it, it also comes with directions on how to install it (I believe).

Hope that helps.

I had to use dos on one occasion to delete the original FW and write the hacked one and on another occasion I was able to delete with jungleflasher but my pc kept freezing after the deletion so I had to use dos to write the hacked FW. I did uninstall the 6421s drivers but it didn't help(I did follow the steps as well). So i just decided to use the xtractor program to extract the key, jungleflasher to write the Lite_CFW.bin file and dos to erase and write the FW from then on. Dos works like a charm for me.

Interesting.

When you installed portio, did you use the exe that came with 1.5, or did you get the .dll and install it? (I don't know if the exe automatically installs a .dll or what, since I just installed the .dll)

I don't know about him, but I used the EXE to install portio, and I'm also using a VIA card on XP.

I also installed my via with it's own drivers, then deleted my viamraid.sys file, installed portio by using the exe version. Also, I couldn't get a good key read from Xtractor in Windows until I went to this other website to download a generic VIA driver for my via card.

But yeah, still when it came to the erasing part, if I did it in Windows, my drive would freeze up, and Windows would lock up with no response from the mouse at all. That's when I just finished the job with DOS (erase/flash).

Just flashed a friends Liteon and used a homemade spear. Worked like a charm. The only issue we ran into was with the VIA card. I had to us the onboard SATA for the flash to take.

well one that appears to be one thing in common so far.

You guys should try flashing (if you get the opportunity again) without using the exe file.

I never had used it for mine.

Download the portio file from maximus's website (in the downloads section) and follow the directions how to install it by using the "add new hardware" control panel function.

I flashed mine with that process and I didn't get any freezing.

i had to use DOS
oddly enough, not only do i have a VIA sata card, but my motherboard also has a VIA chipset

some say that its best to have a VIA card and a Nvidia chipset

I also used the EXE, maybe you are onto something
think its possible that the dll in the EXE is actually an earlier version?

Not sure about that. I aven't tried really looking at it to see if I could figure it out.

But this seems to be one of the big things everyone has in commin when locking up with the via card, is that they are using the .exe

If anyone instead install the other file, I would like to hear that. And if any one of you with issues performs another flash, try making sure everything is uninstalled, and then use the portio from maximus's website.

I would like to see if that could potentially be a fix.

I had to boot into dos to flash too and used my onboard SATA. VIA kept locking up. Next time I'm going to try windowns with the onboard SATA and see if all goes well.
