Last chance to buy AnyDVD or CloneDVD with free updates

article published on 2 December, 2008

SlySoft sent us a note that they will be changing their upgrade policy soon. Currently, if you buy any of SlySoft's products, you'll get free updates for your lifetime. To be fair for its current and past customers, this policy wont change for existing customers, but soon new customers will get the updates only for one year, a familiar policy with many software products nowadays. So ... [ read the full article ]

Hi Guys. So this is what we're looking at. Blu-ray campaign only until 2012. Right now only about 9% of market. 2009 here in a hot min. I don't see Blu-ray lasting. Sony will cut their losses and move on and create some new format as others are starting to also. Hi-Def I don't see disappearing because of the insurgence of hdtv and digital replacing analog here in USA in about 2 mos. So I'm on a fence right now. Fab has been good. Reasonably priced and cracks the pita dvds that we get once in a while. I mainly do dvds so the mobile option is a yet. They also have to update the whole proggie when the mobile option starts acting up. That basically forces me to update to newer version as well.

So I like it that Anydvd sticks to just dvds and I could use any other copy /compression proggie to work w/it. Now that I read this thread I wonder though if not really the price but if the lil pita wait for newer versions of fab because of the xtra options is reason enough to get anydvd. Reminds me of nero and all their bundled nonsense which like mentioned constantly is being updated/upgraded. After being introduced to ImgBurn Nero was history.

I was going to pull the trigger today on anydvd but now I'm going to mull over it a bit n if decide to will bfore the update deadline. Any proggie could sell themselves off and discontinue w/e so I'm not even worrying about that. Seems even regular users are a lil touched by anydvd. Let the comments flow. I do need more perspective from different users. Thnx.

I preserve my expensive BDs by backing them to the HDD and watching them from there. Anydvdhd allows me to do this by handling the handshake seamlessly. It is a great product and Slysoft can't be beat for fast updates. That said; If I had to pay yearly for those updates I would never buy their product, nor ANYONE'S product that requires payment for updates.
I think Slysoft's motive for this change is related to their forthcoming rollout of CloneBD.

Well it is old business now. Most persons that would buy, did buy so Slysoft does not have new money comming in. Unlike bloatware, I love that term, this kind of software needs to be updated to accomadate for changes.

I bought Any when it was cheap and they ran a special but never used it much. Since you need Clone to get it to work right. That was always the rub with the product you get one for the price of 2. I prefer DeFab. Maybe I will get Clone just to be safe and keep them running a while longer. I am afraid they might die after I buy the product.

We should be supporting good products. I've been using Any/Clone (multiple licenses) for over 5 years and Mobile for about a year, and they've been kick-ass products that I would recommend to anyone. That said, I don't see the value in ripping HD/BR discs, and I MIGHT pay for yearly updates if the price were right. I hope that they survive because they have great products.

I like it that it's on the fly especially. The key is definitely the Blu-ray/Hi-def question. Again I seriously doubt Blu-ray will last if at the current prices for movies, blanks, software and hardware. Also keep in mind there's a whole host of new options available now and being worked on as we speak in regards to viewing and copying Blu-ray. Not to mention the solid state hd's that are going to replace the regular ones now and provide for more storage and at a faster rate. ie; the 32gb flash drives just cost about $10 more than a 50gb bd+. So how are they if at all going to compete w/this and will they adjust to a new hi-def format and not charge current owners for a new license altogether. I really was going to pull the trigger by the deadline but all these variables are making me hesitant to do so. As far as Fab when the time comes to get busy they will. One thing we all know and that's we know exactly what we have w/DVDs.

What a bunch of whiners.
You have alternatives, use them!
1) If you think that SlySoft products are overpriced, choose freeware or less expensive products that perform as well and are updated frequently free of charge.
2) If you have already purchased a license but are upset that SlySoft will be charging to frequently update their code as DVD publishers alter their encryption and change publishing standards, then either refuse future updates, or remove the applications for your PC.
3) Design your own Open Source programs and outdo SlySoft. We look forward to your unending supply of superior programs and a commitment to update them well into the foreseeable future for free every time we send you a bug notice.
4) If you like the products because they work well and are updated frequently as the industry changes, then buy a license if you don?t already own one and enjoy ?free updates for your lifetime?.

THIS IS DISGUSTING!

What gives this company the right to raise prices! Aren't they afraid they'll lose their non-profit status?

dr_ml422 is right, especially the blanks, when I saw the prices on blanks I had to keep re-reading thinking it was a miss-print, they have got to be out of thier minds.

I rented for the first time some bluray movies the other day, Godfather 1 and 2, and Recue Dawn, I stuck it in my daughters ps3, my wife asked why I was loading it in the ps3 cause she knows nothing about anything techie, I told her these were bluray movies is suppose to be a much better picture, she said what better picture, niether one of us saw any difference, and no it's not our set, we have a 40in. sony xbr with the 120hz, I also have all 3 movies in regular dvd and like I said no difference at all.

When dvd's came out and the difference from vhs to dvd was amazing, this blu-ray and reg. dvd is pratically none, I did see a little bit of improvment on sets 46in. and above, under that forget it, and than the huge price difference between dvd and bluray everything is a joke, it's just a scam to fool people out of thier money as far as I'm concerned.

Either way I did get anydvd hd just in case, it's not like were talking big bucks anyway so I don't have to worry for now, I just hope they do not in the future change thier mind and charge for updates anyway, that would t me off.

Sequoia1 is also right, I don't think any of the slysoft products are overpriced, everthing of thiers always works on the money, ease of use, updated, tech support A+, can't say that for most other software products.

Believe it or not I've thought about my own open source freeware w/free updates and a purchase trial. Have the brains to put it together as far as who to get and what to do business wise. I just at this time can't see myself relocating to another island or country away from all the copyright nonsense. I mostly now am hearing about other concerns, not just money. We all get what we want no matter the cost if we really want it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with making a informative/wise decision.

Remember also that the difference between a whiner and a winner is the emphis on the i.

This is a avenue for all of us to post our concerns not anything to get riled about. No one's right and no one's wrong. Hopefully anyway. 2020 is always hindsight so time is the only thing of essence here.

I have owned these products for a long time and have NEVER had any problems with them. This is THE ONE software purchase I would recommend "and do" recommend over and over. I guess to each his own, but this is so user friendly for people who need it, and best of all, it always works. Thanks Slysoft.

The 155 E you noted was for all 6 Slysoft offerings bundled. A fair comparison to DVDfab would be Anydvd at 33 E. A bargain I think with free lifetime updates.

Blessedon, I dont think so!

How can you compare AnyDVD with DeFab Platnum??? I have had that for many years so I do not know what the others do except for the free one. The free one is more valuable than AnyDVD. The only diffencence between the 6 and the 1 is Blue Ray processing. I can see why they are having trouble. They nickle and dime you. I got AnyDVD before I got DeFab because they had a sale and I am a whore for any deal. I got real pissed to find out it was worthless unless you bought more software. Defab just keeps adding features for free as they give away their ripper. That kind of service is paying off. It is a smart business model. You use their freeware and get confortable with the product. All the extra features are visable but disabled. After a while many break down and cough up the cash. I did.

I do believe Slysoft puts out a good product or I wouldn't try to buy it. I do believe it is pricy to the point that it is not competitive. I have no idea what DeFab Platnum costs now. I bought it for 30 USD before it hit 50 USD and would include mobile devices.

I use both AnyDVD/CloneDVD2 and DVDFab Platinum, and I got all 3 products before they added the price hikes, and in the case of DVDFab Platinum, before they took out the free lifetime updates.

I like both Slysoft and DVDFab, and since I paid for their products, I don't have to worry about the yearly fees for DVDFab, or the upcoming yearly fees from Slysoft. The only product I don't have from Slysoft is GameJackal, and I might purchase that just so if I decide to buy a PC Game for myself or some friends.

:-)

I hope that when/if they come up with CloneBD, that I'll (and the rest of us that have already bought Slysoft merchandise) get a chance to get a lifetime update if I purchase it when it first comes out.
