Gamma has better game compatibility. So I would use that.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this very straight forward guide. I am not very good when it comes to doing things like this. I tried something like this with a different game system and completly messed it up. I was afraid of trying it with our wii because I normally get something wrong. I took my time, read over the guide about 20 times and made sure I had it on hand while installing. It worked right the first time. I followed the guide word for word and never had any problems. This is a guide that anybody could follow.. Thanks again.. My son is very greatful..

[Please Help]
I have a U.S. Wii which unfortunately I updated to 3.4U before hearing about emulators. I used this thread to install Homebrew Channel and the wiigator backup loader. When wiigator didn't work with 3.4U, I googled and got the info to downgrade to 3.2U.
I then went back in this thread and got the files for a 3.3 version or below and installed them.
My Homebrew channel says I have the wiigator 0.3 Gamma loader with the IOS249.
When I load a backup DVD, I get a DVD Read Error (324)
I get my backup files from D______d and making sure they are only NTSC files.
I extract the multiple rar files and get one iso image.
I use IMGBURN to burn the iso image and have burned at 1x and 3x speeds.
I am selecting "Write Image File to Disc".
I am using TDK DVD-R 16x discs.
I know I can follow instructions because I downloaded the DVD Dumper and successfully started a transfer from my Wii to my computer.
I will see what happens when I write that ISO to a disc.
Does anyone have a clue what my problem is other than bad media? I have burned 6 coasters so far. I read that TDK DVD-R discs were good for backups.
Please help if you have had this problem and solved it. It has to be something simple.
Thanks,

Evidently you can't follow directions. The guide at the beginning said if you have OCT 23rd 3.3 or 3.4 firmware you will need to fix the WAD/cIOS limitation it places on the system. It also says you do not need to downgrade.
Since you have downloaded to 3.2 follow the installation setup again for the boot loader and make sure the cIOS is installed. Then try booting a game via the boot loader.

Dear larrylj,
Thanks for your reply quoted below.

Since you have downloaded to 3.2 follow the installation setup again for the boot loader and make sure the cIOS is installed. Then try booting a game via the boot loader.
I followed your directions precisely. Did I not fix the WAD/cIOS limitation if I was able to install Homebrew? I was able to install wiigator 0.3 gamma. I was able to install the cIOS249. I am able to install other cIOS files.
I downgraded to 3.2 because the consensus was that 3.2 was the best version for Homebrew.
I went back and installed the files for 3.3 and below.
Please tell me what step I missed?
Right now, I am transferring wii Sport to my desktop computer with DVD dump. Doesn't this mean that I have no limitations on cIOS?
Obviously, I have missed something. Would you please be kind enough to point it out. As I wrote in my previous post, I have wiigator 0.3 Gamma installed with 249IOS installed on my SD card which I can view in my Homebrew channel.
I appreciate your guide, without which I would have never been able to install the Homebrew channel on 3.4.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you run the cIOS installer on the Homebrew Channel?

Did you run the cIOS installer on the Homebrew Channel?
Yes
Unlike in your instructions:
2) Launch the cIOS installer listed in the Homebrew Channel Menu. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the cIOS needed for the Boot Loader to run. After it has installed it will reboot back to the Wii Channel menu.
After the installation showed complete, nothing happened. I had to go back to the Wii Channel menu on my own.
Could this indicate a problem?
I am still transferring wii sport to my computer.
Tomorrow morning I will burn the iso. If that doesn't work, I will
go buy some other brand of discs.
I wish I had a disc that worked on someone else's Wii to eliminate whether or not I have a media problem or have burned a game that is known not to work with wiigator.
Thanks,

I'm actually having a problem with a wiigator installation now.
I've done a couple softmods before with no difficulty, but I was installing wiigator for a friend and this time I keep getting the error "An error has occured. Please turn off the wii and refer to the system manual."
I know it's not a bad burn because it was a verbatum DVD+R disk that I've been using for weeks with no errors. Next time I go over there I'll bring some other games to try anyway, but I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this error with wiigator and what it meant.

Re-installed cIOS installer and waited this time; it went back to the Homebrew channel menu not the Wii Channel menu.
Got the iso for wii sports. Burnt it with ImgBurn.
still unable to load game. Still get DVD Read Error.
Any more suggestions? Anyone????

if the cIOS is installed properly then you should be able to boot the game via the WiiGator Gamma launcher. If you get read errors then more then likely it is a media compatibility issue (keep in mind if a backup works on your Wii System it doesn't necessarily mean it will work on someone else's.) Just try different media and once you find media that work stick with it.

Thats what I figured, just wanted to check. I have backups on verbatum DVD-R and a couple older burns on assorted other media. I'll give them a shot next time I'm over there.

Hi everyone,
I love this site, pure knowlege!
I have a slight problem that lead me to this post.
I have bought a wii which already has Homebrew channel and Wii backup channel present
The Backup channel uses Wii Gator 3 beta
When I try certain games that work for others
I get :
An error has occurred.
Press the EJECT Button, remove the
Game Disc, and turn the power off,
Please reda the Wii Operations Manual
for maore information.
I have found that I need the newer version stated here as Gamma.
Is there an easy way to go about upgrading beta to gamma with an sd card or Not possible?
Also I see most seekers of help on their wii's list firmware versions of the different types of software.
Please tell me where to look for detailed information.
Also I have looked for this so called cIOS installer and cannot seem to find it. Is the cIOS installer something that can only be seen if an SD card has been put in?
Is this guide going to be easier to follow once I Download the files and correctly put them on the SD card?
Do I still need the original Twilight Game even if I already have the Homebrew Channel and Backup channel?
Exactly what Wii firmware do I have?
Supposedly this wii has never been Connected to internet for Update...
And was bought on August 15th 2008 according to nintendo.
I dont even know if I have it or not.
Can someone tell me where to look for the version info and what cIOS installer I have if I even have one that is.
Any help would greatly be appreciated guys thanks.

And also
"If you have a previous cIOS installed due to an older bootloader version you will need to uninstall it.
"
How do I uninstall the previous version of cIOS installer, if I in fact have it.
Is this Installer only seen when the SD card is inside the Wii 's slot and you then go to a certain channel or game save, or should I be able to see it without the SD card present, remember my wii already has Wii gator 3 beta and Backup channel.
thanks again

I upgraded from 3.1U to 3.4U. I previously already installed the HBC. I downloaded all the files from your link. I left each directory the intact. I placed the private. apps, wad, & wiiload folders on the root of my SD card. I followed every step including watching the youtube video. I tried doing the video step by step. Everything worked up to installing the cIOS_installer. It completes all of the content until the end where it's looking for a ticket. What steps did I do wrong.

larrylje,
To quote you:
If the cIOS is installed properly then you should be able to boot the game via the WiiGator Gamma launcher.
I am beginning to wonder if I REALLY have cIOS249 installed. I went through the install procedure and the screen shows I have the wiigator gamma launcher and IOS249 installed. Is there a way to test this other than successfully loading a backup?
I tried burning with Memorex DVD-R today since I tried Office Depot, Circuit City and BJs and could not find Verbatim DVD-R discs.
I still get a DVD Read Error (324)when trying to load a backup of wii Sport.
I successfully installed Homebrew Channel using your guide with version 3.4U and downgraded to 3.2U. Did this screw up Homebrew some way?
If I have the Homebrew Channel installed, I don't need to do anything with Twilight Princess again, do I?
The instructions to install the wiigator loader are quite clear.
I have run the cIOS installer numerous times.
The gamma launcher loads up with no problem.
I am still getting the DVD Read Error.
Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?
larrylje, thanks for your help and patience, I will not be defeated. Somehow I will make this work.

you guys need to make sure you are on 3.4 and run the oct 23 fix. Use the downgrader 1.1 and then install cios v7. I have softmodded two boxes with no problems and they play all games that I have burned (over 20). Make sure you pay attendtion and you don't get any errors when you install the wads and cios. If it says failed, then you did it wrong.

iceman29,
As I have written, I did the twilight princess bit, installed homebrew and downgraded to 3.2
I ran the cIOS installer. When I try to launch the disc with the gamma launcher, I get the DVD Read Error. I have tried 3 different brands of DVD-R discs and one DVD+R.
I spent this afternoon looking for Verbatim disks. Looks like I will have to order them on line. I find it hard to believe my wii is so picky on disc brand.
Thanks,

2. Windows default format seems to be FAT32, not FAT16. And I have no FAT16 option. Any thoughts?

It is not picky. I have ran every disc known to man and it works perfect. DL's, +'s, -'s. All work fine for me. 3.2 is the wrong version. You need to be on 3.4 and follow my steps. I have moddded 3 wii's this week with these steps and all work. I have over 20 games and no problems.

Hi iceman29,
I am a bit confused. I started out with 3.4U. I ran the twilight princess hack and installed the Homebrew Channel. I installed cIOS 249 and then selected the wiigator gamma loader. It showed IOS 249. After Disk Read errors, I down graded to 3.2 and have the same problem. I am able to load and remove IOS 249. I am able to use the wadmanager. I am able to used DVD dumper.
In a previous post you said to use the downgrader 1.1 .
Did you mean to downgrade to something other than 3.4U?
If you have the Homebrew Channel, is there any need to ever run Zelda twilight princess again?
I have read posts and tutorials until my eyes are bleeding.
Should I upgrade to 3.4U again?
Something that may give a clue. I put the 02 fix gamma loader on my SD. I removed and reinstalled IOS 249. The 02Fix gamma loader turns the screen black and then text blinks and freezes my wii. I went back to the "plain vanilla" gamma loader and it loaded fine.
More questions if you have had the patience to read this far.
In case I have tried to backup programs that are incompatible with the gamma loader, can you recommend a backup torrent that has worked 100% for you?
Have you changed any of the options for the gamma loader?
I am driving 30 miles today to get some Verbatim DVD-R. I hope that is my problem since everything seems to work like larrylje's tutorial but I get the DVD Read Error. Even wiigator says that a read error is probably due to media or a bad burn. I have 3 different DVD burners available to me. If I burn on each one a Verbatim DVD-R at 4x, I should get a good one if it is just media.
I have found in life that the biggest problems usually have the simplest solutions.
I am hoping someone can come up with some new ideas.
One final question for everyone. Every tutorial seems to start out with doing the twilight princess hack. If you have done it once and you have a functioning Homebrew Channel, do you ever have to do it again to make the wiigator loader work?
Thanks to everyone,
