Rumast,

Sorry my good friend but we need a whole lot more information before we can help you -

What are your PC's specs ? -

What exactly are you working with - AVI's,ISO's, VOB's, MPEG's - etc. ??

What other programs do you have running ?

At exact point does this "Freeze" happen ?

Give us something (and be gentle with us, Please)

We've got alot of brains here to help -

We'll give it our best shot :-)

I am having the same problem with DVD Shrink but my computer shuts down while the dvd is encoding. If I choose Nero to back it up or back it up to my hard drive it shuts down either way while encoding. I have a nec 4x burner, p4 2.4ghz cpu, 80gig hard drive, my computer is was put together by a friend and everything seems to work otherwise. I have used dvdxcopy and that worked with no problems. Please Help!

sando, as you see I told Rumast, We need information -

(I get tiried of repeating myself)

Ok, so you're using Nero recode2 and DVD SHrink.

And using them both you lock up when encoding -

(I really wish you would answer ALL the questions)

Without information from you I can only guess that it is a resources problem -

Close down everything in msconfig and try again and let me know how you are doing -

Go to start programs, click run, type msconfig, click startup tab, click disable all, apply, OK, yes - when your system restarts, go directly to DVD Shrink and begin to process your DVD

I am running Windows XP Home, Nero 5.5.10.50 oem
I am trying to backup a dvd with DVDshrink.

If I either reauthor the DVD or backup entire disk the disk burning process halts about 1/2 through the process. And the blank disk is ruined.

I have tried to burn a dvd from the files DVDshrinks creates. It also fails.

I open Nero and test burn a DVD with the files and it passes the test. But when I actually tried to burn the DVD it failed, using the same source files.

I get a windows error popup - this is the text:

This happens on about 50% of the DVDs I try to backup. Some DVD backup fine. other won't.

I am using a Memorex 2.4 speed burner and 4x media. I have updated the DVD firmware (this happened before the firmwaRE UPDATE ALSO).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

OK, Let's make sure you are working with a complete Shrink folder - you should have 2 folders -
VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. We're going to be using the VIDEO_TS folder - it should contain .Ifo's, Bup's and a bunch of Vob's - and That's what we want ;-))

then follow these directions below - -

But, before you do, first a word from our sponser -

I'd like for you to go into msconfig and select "Disable All", then click "Apply", the click "OK" and then click "YES". When your PC reboots THEN follow these instructions :)

Step by Step ?
Do not use Nero Wizard.
When you open Nero Burning ROM, you will be at the ?New Compilation? window. Directly under the title ?New Compilation? is a choice block to choose either DVD or CD, choose DVD. Directly under that click on the DVD Video Icon. Then click ?New? in the upper right corner of that screen, NOT the main screen.
You now are in the DVD Video window. In the left screen, click VIDEO_TS. In the File Browser screen, 3rd from the left, trace your path to the VIDEO_TS folder, the one you made earlier holding all of your files and click on that folder. All of your VIDEO_TS files are now opened in the right screen. Click on the top file, hold down the ?Shift? key and then click the bottom file thereby hi-lighting the entire column of files. Click and (holding the left mouse button down) drag the entire column of files to the open screen, second from the left.
Now click the icon on the task bar that shows a match on a disc, and then click ?OK? and now ? ?Burn Baby, Burn !?
NOW, STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER ! !
Keep all fingers and toes away from Ms. Computer. Never mess with the lady when she?s working ? it would be hazardous to your health, you understand -

That should do it -

Pete

Okay, I followed your instructions and have only 2 questions.

1.) DVDshrink did not create two directories - it just placed all the Ifos, bups, and Vobs into a directory I named when i ran DVDshrink.
Example: When I was backing up Sinbad I told DVDshrink to use a directory called D:\Sinbad. In that directory are all the files (Ifo's, BUPs, and VOBs)

I also notice the VOBs are claimed by Hero DVD player. Not sure if this is a concern.

2.) If I take all the files DVDshrink created and place them in the Nero Video_TS foldder and hit the burn icon I do not get a OK button. I get a screen that is titled "DVD write", this screen has a "Write" button.
I'm pretty sure we're doing the exact same thing. But your description was so accurate I wanted to check.
I'm about to try this and will let you know. This is essentially the process I tried before but I didn't use the msconfig step.

Thanks.

I just had this happen to both of my machines. I reinstalled Force aspi, now everything works fine again. It started after using the Beta shrink but I'm not sure what actually caused it.

I have 256 of ram and I did the msconfig and it is still shutting down. I deleted Nero and used DVD Shrink and tried backing it up to my hard drive and that doesn't work, I used dvd decryptor and tried burning from my hard drive to rule out my dvd rom, I tried using my burner and reading the disk from there and they all fail.

okay. Tried everything as described. Ran Nero and made new complilation.

Nero bombs after it starts writing the disk and gives a "SCSI Target Error"

I ran the Force ASPI. Update the ASPI layer to 4.6. But the Check ASPI is questionable. The message 'Aspi layer is installed and working' is greyed out? Not exactly sure what that means.

Should I try another disk? I'm running low.

This only happens with some DVDs.

Try saving to image instead of file and check burn with DVDdecrypter if you have it.

Hmmm...

Running XP Pro here on a 2.66 GHZ system with
512MB of DDR RAM - two DVD +R drives...

No problems with DVD Shrink what-so-ever.

How are you doing the backup? Do you have two
drives or are you copying the DVD to your HDD
first then back to the DVD R?

Try Nero 6.3.03. Also as pete said copy all Ifo and VOB files over to burn. My Nero did not want Bup files so try without them, and I have no problems. Good luck
ANYONE KNOW WHAT BUP FILES ARE?????

Hello,

You are not alone. I have the same problem using Nero Burning Rom 6.0. It happens by using Nero itself and adding video files in VIDEO_TS OR by letting DVD Shrink doing the job (so, in IFO style!). The burning starts and suddenly, the entire PC freezes.
My PC spec: P4 1.5, 384MB Rimm, NEC 4* (using at 2.4* to reduce problems).
Never got a problem by using DVD Decrypter iso writing engine. Nero is messing up 1-2 DVD by 10.
Reading other forums info, it is Nero's engine fault.
So, this is for Nero.

Concerning Aspi Layer, you need to go to adaptec site and download the latest aspi layer, normally v 4.71a2.
This is a complete bundle that will reinstall all the necessary files. Previously, I had the version 4.71, and DVD Shrink was not working correctly.
Someone on this site recommended that to me, God bless him.

Concerning burning, the process can be considered in 2 categories: IFO and ISO.
IFO mode (DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter) will create a VIDEO_TS directory. In Nero, just go to DVD Video, open VIDEO_TS, add all the files (below DVD 4.7 limit please). Then you can label it and burn it. I recommend using 2.4* for best stability using Nero (even with that, it is not a very good engine).
Of course, if you are using DVD Shring latest version, you can tell DVD Shrink to do it by itself.
If ISO mode, I recommend NOT using Nero, but DVD Decrypter, which has a fantastic burning engine. Too bad that it does not do IFO burning...

Hey, other experimented guys, is it possible to create ISO from IFO ?

cheers

Hi,

As far as I know, BUP files are IFO backup files.
IFO files contain info about VOB files.
VOB files are video and audio streams formatted for Video movies.

cheers

I tried fixing my aspi layer using adaptec and I'm not sure it worked.
They bundle a program called Aspichk which is supposed to tell you is the aspi layer is ok. When I run it it produces a window with a the message "Aspi layer is properly installed and fully operational." But the message is greyed out.

Anyways I have all my ASPI layers components agreeing ( they are all version 4.6) according to adapetc chkaspi.
I'm not going to try backing up the DVD that was giving me problems until I get the ASPI layer fixed with more certaintly (not greyed out).
