Hmm. I just started looking into the xbox 360 modding scene.
Sounds interesting, but also very risky.
Don't want to get banned from Xbox Live for having modded drive, heh.
Outa nowhere - BAM! You have update! = no more xbox live = me cry T.T

it's a tradeoff... each person has to balance the risk vs. reward.... which for me was a no brainer...
it is also based on your knowledge of stealth patching and the proper use of ABGX and similar tools... keeping your FW up to date those kinds of things.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

This kind of reminds me of Diablo II's black tuesday where lots of people were banned all in one day for using maphack, even though a majority thought it was safe, and thought their "stealth" versions protected them from being banned.
Risks: being banned from xbox live, even when using stealth version of the firmware, and using only original Xbox 360 game disks to play online.
Benefits: playing backup game disks so you're originals don't get scratched up and become unplayable. (or for pirates out there, playing a 'friend's' backups lol)
Personally, I cherish xbox live too much. Until I have a better online community to play games with, I don't wanna risk loss of xbox live =)

You have much to learn padawon, Microsoft have no way of reading the firmware of your drive. They prevented it from happening... because if they could read it, Anyone could. The thing that gets you banned from live is playing games with bad crc checks etc. Also, the speed of the disc have something to do with it. (Why new iXtreme speeds are 12x)
P.S: There has been no one banned using iXtreme 1.5+ Thats been out a good year, even with the release of halo wars? No ban hammer? Or maybe because ixtreme detects bad copys?
The real risk is, If under warranty... Will you risk it? 3RROD is rare but what about the NADA (E74) :o lol

Do some reading, and you'll see that the backers of the firmware make everythign a lot more secure, than that maphack.

That's awesome! I didn't know that MS couldn't actually find out what firmware was on the drive. Maybe I will mod. but then again...
Like s1DaVe said - they can check crc and disc speed. There may even be another unknown detection method. With upgraded dashboards, couldn't they log when someone puts in a game backup, then report to MS when getting on xbox Live and ban?

I want to mod get my xbox 360 modded with ixtreme 1.51 stealth firmware but I'm wondering is it worth $70 just to mod my xbox when i can only play non 3rd wave games.
Also, does anybody know if all new games are going to be 3rd wave games and does anybody know when the new 1.6 ixtreme firmware is coming out, and if i already have ixtreme 1.51, can i update to 1.6 (when it comes out) for a fraction of the price.

I think your getting confused, if you read the whole thread you will notice that you can play 3rd wave and non 3rd wave games, that's the whole point of 1.51.
Also $70 is a high price for a mod, you could do it yourself and have the equipment for future mods for around $30

Um... $70 is way too much just to mod an xbox. Like said before, you can get all the tools and do it yourself for under $30.

thats why we use ABGX it makes sure backups arent detectable.

I read that 1.51 will possibly boot bad backups. I never fix Angle 359 when checking backups w/ abgx since my firmware is >1.4. Will I get banned playing those games w/ 1.51 ?

1.51 Will still check crc proberly, making bad copies unplayable.. the angle thing will proberly not matter although just to be on the safe side you may as well in future. To be honest, I really think microsoft is giving up.
ABGX checks everying that xbox live checks on banning people, hackers have reports off xbox live checking angles etc. just use the latest firmware, check with the latest abgx and all will be well.
P.s my friend had 1.2 with good copies... not banned for 3 years and going. Now updated to 1.51 for him :)

Thanks for the response. But could anybody list what items i need to flash my own console (i know it's probably in previous pages).
Also, i live in Australia, so $70 (australian) is only like $40 us.

Well if you have one of the older drives (Samsung, Hitachi, or BenQ), then you just need to plug it into SATA on your computer. If it doesn't have SATA, you will need to order a VIA6421 Card, they are only like $15USD.
If you have a LiteOn, you will need to extract the key from the drive, which requires a tool that you can either build yourself, or buy for $35USD.
If your computer has SATA on the motherboard and they are the nForce Chipset, then you can flash your drive with that!

Yeah, definitely! Thx everyone! I'll do some more research into this ABGX and inability for microsoft to read the firmware =)
Once my 360 is modded, all I'll have left to mod is my NES hehe. I already have a modded PSP, NDS, GBA (well, flash cart, but close enough to mod), Wii and PS2. I'm planning on also getting an original Xbox to mod too.

I bought my 360 around 14 months ago, and the dvd drive seems to be a benq, but my 360 did get repaird due to the RRoD... so it could be a lite on
Also, does anybody know a good tut (again there is probably one on afterdawn that i keep missing in the search)

Yeah, i checked out the jungle flasher one but i think i might just take it to the shop... i'm quite technologically brain dumb and i don't want to wipe something from the 360.
