Hi, I just installed my Wii Drive Key. I went to the configuration menu and
DriveKey is ON, Region Override is On, Update Blocker is Import, Wii Disc Autoboot is OFF, and Full GC Region Free is ON
But when i put in a wii cd, it says "An error has occurred. Press the Eject button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."
Has anyone else had this problem?
Also I was told this happens when an ISO is patched and that I shouldn't use patched ISOs. Is there a way for me to fix this and be able to use patched ISOs with my drive key?

Having the same problem.
DriveKey seems to be installed correctly. I can access the DriveKey config menu. Settings are the same as those described in first post. Original discs boot fine. The Wii is a D2E with epoxy. This Wii is currently updated to 3.4U. DriveKey was sold as: 'DriveKey plug in modchip Drive Key X4 #16610'.
My problem is that any disc i put in silently crashes the wii. Have tried burning discs with Nero and ImgBurn (with the instructions provided at drivekey.com). Have also tried DVD+R and two brands of DVD-R discs. All of these attempts cause the wii to crash shortly after inserting the disc.

Update.
Tried burning on mac and it seems to have worked for two backups. Not sure what caused the problem I was having before, possibly a corrupted ISO. Used Verbatim DVD-R (16X) discs. Burned at 2X using the Disk Utility application that comes with Mac OSx 10.5.5.

I'm having the same issue with the drivekey I installed today. I can run legit games and access the config menu, but when I try a burnt disc I get "An error has occurred. Press the Eject button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."
I've tried 5 burnt games which work in another console with wiikey2, none of them work. I've tried Fuji DVD+R, Imation DVD+R and Sony DVD-R Burned at 4x (slowest my drive allows).
Any other ideas?
Thanks

It took me a while to get mine to work. I think it totally had to do with the source of the downloaded material.
I found only one site that I was able to get working downloads, just downloading random torrents failed for me.
I am using Verbatim DVD-R x16.

That should do it. Make sure there is no disc in the drive and that you are at the wii home menu, then press eject three times in quick sucession.

Sorry, too quick.
You will then see a gamecube disc loaded in the disc channel. Run this and it will load the config system.

Does anyone know if the Wii DriveKey works with the new 4.0 firmware (released late March 2009)?

I have the same question. The last two backup games I tried (MadWorld and Animal Crossing: City Folk) asked me to upgrade to the latest wii system software 4.0). Blocking all updates with the Drivekey prevented the request for updating. The game channel icon then appears but they don't launch successfully. I'm not sure if this is because these games won't work without the update or are just bad backups. In any case, I would like to perform the udpate to get access to the improved SD card handling and the shopping channel. Anyone tried it with a drivekey yet?

I have one of the new batch, for me to access the config menu I have to go into the disk channel, press eject 3 times quickly, the disk icons start spinning then the Gamecube disk icon shows, next I click Start & i'm in config.

Ok...I thought I'd add my 2 cents here. I've installed a DriveKey 3 days ago on my Wii and I have/had all the problems you guys had.
So far, in firmware 4.0 nothing stops working, except the Twilight Hack (you'll need this for the Homebrew Channel) so try to do the hack before updating. Also if you made a cIOSv7/v8 install before the update you'll be able to play/install .wads with no problems...Firmware 3.2 and up killed the ability to install .wad files.
Also, when a disc doesn't work it's most probably the ISO's fault. Personally I avoid WISCRUBBED ISOs and shady torrent sites...even if the games they have are really good...
I try to download the full ISOs even if they weight 4.6GB or more...That way you might get a chance to get it working. DVD-Rs are a must, way easier and way more compatible in most cases, DVD+Rs work but you'll need to change the booktype to DVD-ROM. One last thing if your DVD burner is old or of a not very good quality try recording at 1x-4x...if you have a good recorder and good media pump the speed to the max and enjoy the ISO even faster than the rest of us...
Hope this helps!

Okay, $70 later and 4 trips to computers stores I've gotten some DVD-R's that work. (I don't believe it's my burner, fairly new pioneer one, and all DVD's verify okay with Nero)
The Memorex, HP, Fuji, Imation discs all failed. The ones which finally worked for me were Taiyo Yuden Premium (made in Japan). Since I started using these discs every one has worked (including ones that did not previously).
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Reece

DVD5 backups work fine, but my DVD9 backups dont load. Do you think updating to 4.0 will fix this.
I'm having trouble with Super Smash Bros. Brawl

I am having the same "An error has occurred. Press the Eject button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting." Issues but i get the error with ANYTHING i do....I get that error if i try to access the config menu, i get it if i insert a back-up, AND i get it if i insert an original game (this is what worries me). I have triple checked all connections and everything appears to be fine. Currently i removed the Driveky mod and my Wii is back to normal, but i really want to use the Drivekey.
Does anyone have any suggestions or can offer any help? Please :(
Thanks,
Shawn

@sfenness
I just got a DriveKey and was experiencing the Eject error with the DVD+RW I had burned a backup to. DSWarrior's quote tells the story. Its typically not the mod chip, its the way you burn the game backups. See http://www.drivekey.com/static/html/fb_howto.html for instructions on using ImgBurn to burn. I had to do 3 tries before my DVD+RW burn started to work. The key is the extra configuration setting to burn a DVD-ROM. Make sure you get the steps right before jumping to conclusions about your DriveKey.

Try to remove the DriveKey and reinsert it very very carefully making sure the whole wire is making contact both on the DVD drive and the motherboard. Also make sure you flipped the itty-bitty dip-switches to match your region. AND look at the ribbon cable provided with the DriveKey and check for kinks or broken areas.
Hope this helps!
