After I finish with the Offline Downgrade guide, I'm done or should I continue with the Extra Steps from the guide main post? You could at least write something like "After following the Offline Downgrade guide until step X, you're done/return here and do Y steps" It's just one sentence, it shouldn't be too hard to add it. Well, maybe it's too hard for someone like you after all...
So, if don't want to help me or other people who are lost like me, it's OK, nobody will force you to do that but you don't have to be a moron about it.
And the the next time you star looking down on someone like you are looking down on me now, remember that you didn't write any of those guides you are linking here and you didn't code the tools for making the mod either. You just wrote a lousy post with links to other places, nothing else. You did something a lot of people out there can do as well.
So, why don't you take your own advice, use your brain a little bit, and write YOUR OWN guide?

@edzzz66: thanks, for the advice.
If you your manners would have been a little better in your first post then maybe I would have helped. But no one likes being told that the effort they have put forth FOR FREE! is POORLY DONE.

So if you don't like the poorly done effort that I have put forth find another guide.

The only thing that will install or run is the downgrader. None of the Steps work at this point.

Any help in getting this to work is appreciated.
An exact error would be more helpful.

Most errors is due to selecting WAD Instillation and not having the WAD file at the root. Either place the needed WAD file (that is listed in the guide) into the root directory or change the install method to Network Install.

Larry you're brilliant, it's as simple as that.

Everything worked like you said, EVERYTHING, it's just a shame to see "some people" ungrateful of the work of others.

So far, i managed to play 2 games, Super Mario Galaxy and Broken Sword, SMG is NTSC so it didn't quite work with the Normal Disc Channel but did work through Backup Launcher v0.3, i experienced some audio choppiness when the first Video played, maybe because its using the Launcher, i don't know really, just a hunch.

Oddly enough, Broken Sword (PAL) worked from the Normal Disc Channel but got a #002 error when i tried playing it through the Launcher channel.

Also, i did not install USB Loader GX, can i do it now even after i did the "How to Launch Backup Games..." guide?

Thanks for your time Larry.

I play games for a living.

Yeah you can install USB Loader. It only needs the cIOS36_rev9 or higher to run. This guide installs cIOS38_13a so you are good to go.

Hi Larry. Thanks your guide worked well for me. I updated hbc to 1.0.3 and then I installed cios12. Next upgraded my softmod 3.3U to 4.0U via official nintendo then did patch60.
However hbc still has problems to read my toshiba 8gb SDHC. It reads my 2gb SD fine. I read some people had this issue with hbc 1.0.2 but is it still possible to have it with 1.0.3 or did i mess something up?

I rebooted the wii to go back and reinstall preloader again through homebrew but this time i get a black screen when the wii is switched on and there is nothing happening!!

Does this mean my wii is now bricked? If it is, is there any way I can get it working again? - I really hope there is :(

Yes I have tried holding reset and booting to preloader, nothings happening, the power lights going green and I can hear the disc drive but just getting a black screen.

I have read through the guide fully again including the linked guides to update to 4.0 etc. I can now see where I have made the mistake installing IOS60 after preloader but i didnt grasp this as the only place I see the warning message not to install IOS60 after preloader is within further steps of the linked guide at the yafaze site which the main guide tells you to forget about and follow further steps on the main guide. Had i read carfully through the steps on the linked guide I would have realised. Larrylje - I am in no way saying anything bad about your guide so please dont think that - I really appreciate the time you have taken to make a guide and the support you are giving in the forum. I am just explaining how I have managed to mess things up.

So now that im left with a blank black screen does anyone know how I can get my Wii back up and running. I got it as a gift from my gf and she will freak if she finds out its not working! I would really appreciate any help. I can't afford to buy a new console :(

Hi all, when I first followed the instructions on this forum it was when cIOS38_rev12 was used and everything went perfect first time, all my games worked, then I got indiana jones game and I just got a green screen, this was the only game that I had this problem

So I noticed the instructions had been modified to the cIOS38_rev13a version, when I update to this one though then instead of green screen I just get error #002 code on all of my games?

So I have gone back to cIOS38_rev12 again and all is fine apart from once again that one game I mentioned, just wondered if anyone knew why I got this problem?

Like I said all works fine now apart from that game so I'm happy to stick as I am just thought someone may know an easy fix, cheers.

i managed to see these thread just now after some googling.

i have a korean wii (flashed to english menu) that was on 3.3U. I soft mode it using the bannerbomb exploit. I followed the steps and used the files (aad1f_v108.zip and HackMii installer) stated in the procedure. after this i can see now HBC on my wii.

I updated to 4.0U using the steps below as what the store staff (where i bought my wii) advised me;

Guide to update to 4.0U
1. you need to copy the files from the zip files to your SD card(2gb and below only)

2. you will also need to setup your wifi connected using the wii settings menu,
3. go to homebrew channel and start it.
4. you should see CIOS_INSTALLER... 4.0 updater and IOS61, point to CIO_INSTALLER and click A and then click on load
5. follow the on screen instruction to install CIOS.
6. once it's finish, your wii should restart, go back to homebrew channel, and choose 40U_UPDATE.(if you are in homebrew channel after it finished installing, then continue with the 40U_UPDATE).
7. wait for the process to finish and you will be at 4.0U... the process takes around 45mins or so.
8. once done, go back to homebrew channel and choose IOS61.
9. follow the onscreen instruction, but only install IOS61... DO NOT INSTALL IOS60 and IOS60 SHOP or anything related, ONLY ONLY ONLY install IOS61.
10. your are done, and enjoy your new 4.0U.

now my wii is in 4.0U.

my questions are.
1. Can I use the procedures and files mentioned in "EXTRA STEPS"? There is "IOS60PATCH" in the "EXTRA STEPS" but when i upgrade my wii, i used IOS61.

2. Do i need to install wad manager and backup launcher before doing the "EXTRA STEPS"?

3. Do I need to perform the EXTRA STEPS before i can Gamecube Support and USB loader GX?

For question number 3, as far as i know, yes, you need to do the Extra Steps of this guide, USB loader GX needs cIOS36_rev9 or higher to run and those steps can guarantee you cIOS38_13a.

As for Question # 1, i think you have to downgrade to IOS60, but DONT take my word for it and wait until Larry or Matthews come to help, this is just a speculation.

I went step by step and got to the point where I am in Loadmii and choose downgrade IOS35...I get a "It seems to me that you are a pirate. bye.." message. I searched for a while and found people needing to run "shared2clean" so I tried that it told me my shared folder was cleaned and I deleted any wiiware channels just in case. Ran it again and got the same issue. I previously had HBC installed with DVD9 or DVDX cant recall its been a while and I think that is whats causing this error but im not sure how to clean my system to let me get this step done.

OH and BTW I went ahead and pressed on with the tutorial and it allowed me to do everything else no problem at all until I tried to install the USB loader forwarder channel it gave me an error and would not install...I did boot up a game from the usb loader via the HBC and it worked fine but I would like to have everything perfect.

Thanks for the guide OP, followed it and everything worked well.

Upgraded to v4.0 before I attempted any of it

I have a backup of Zelda which works fine but i also have Grand Slam Tennis, this gives Error #002 when i try to load it.

Is it because it's a new game or have i done it wrong?

What is this Brick Blocking, would it help?

+rep to Larry, Guide was great at getting me familiar with all the tools necessary. 1hour late this past weekend.

LU56 Wii unit, dropped in the microSD into the SD adaptor and loaded all the tools with the exact link provided. Went like a charm. I had no issues at all getting the 4.0 upgraded and loading the Homebrew.

Getting the USB loader to work was a little sketchy, would just drop to an empty screen.. so i tested with an extra microSD on a USB adaptor. Figured it had to be the drive after quickly checking the compatiblity list and using USBLoader1.5 for testing. Dropped in a WesternDigital My passport 320Gb and loaded up 30+ games in the past 3 days. I have played everyone of them for at least 15 mintutes a piece with no issues and my kids have played longer.

No more useless game discs that the kids have scratched, that is why i did this.

Again, Great guide, you just have to pay attention and use your head. Appreciate the effort.

Cheers!

Great Guide! I'll be trying this at home. A few quick and hopefully easy questions. I work in IT so I get the packing/unpacking. Here come my dumb questions that I would hate to trip me up.

1. Can I Update my Wii to 4.0 vai the normal Wii System Update?
2. After it's up to 4.0u via System Update I follow the steps in the link all the way to Further Steps (DO I STOP here and do not do FURTHER STEPS)
3. Do I do the EXTRA STEPS in this guide? And if so where do I stop?
4. Do I stop at IOS Downgrader? Is this necessary to run? If I don't run it what will happen. Will I be able to play most backups without running IOS downgrader? If I do run it what are the downsides.

Thanks for all your help. This guide is awesome but I like to be 100% clear before modding stuff.

Is this necessary from the bannerbomb page:

"Go download the HackMii installer. Copy installer.elf to the root of the SD card, and rename it to boot.elf."

It doesn't say to do that in the guide.

Hey Larry, really appreciate the guide, helped a lot. Anyways I did everything the guide had me do, have installed bootmii and thats about it. I was wondering how to fix the 002 error with the CIOS and such that we have installed. I've read something about the backup launcher needing to be updated but I don't want to mess anything up and brick my wii. Also
2) I installed bootmii and backed up the NAND but I only could install as an IOS. Whats the deal with a preloader so I can use that if my wii bricks? I dont know anything about any of this so sorry, but thanks for your help.

Ok, I've followed the guide all the way down to the GC Backups section, and completed it. The only "problem" I had was the cIOS rev7 would not install no matter what.

I have a Wii serial key is the right key, L35 or something or other. 4.0 FW, I used to have Backup Launcher 1.0.3 with WiiGator's Backup Launcher 0.3 Gamma, before G I had Beta. Seeing this guide I decided I would erase all of the data on the wii of the softmod stuff, and the SD card, and try to do a fresh install so I could have channels, and not require the SD card and free it up for my fiancee to use in her camera. Homebrew channel seems to work fine but the backup launcher however does not. No matter what is inserted whether it be a Wii or GC game, the Gamma Launcher freezes before any text pops up only the Gamma Launcher logo shows. Any idea what the hell is going on? I use Memorex DVD-R, and they all worked magnificently beforehand.

EDIT: Ok, I removed my GC memory card, and controller and the backup launcher is now working - so how the hell would I play my GC backups...?? Sorry if it's blatantly obvious.

GC backups reset the Wii when started from the Disc Channel and do nothing else, the Gamma freezes with any GC accessories attached which I figured...

When launching a Wii game from the Disc Channel and starting I get "An error has occured. Press the Eject Button, remove the Game Disc, and turn the power off. Please read the Wii operations manual for more information." They do work however from WiiGators Gamma Launcher...??

So I thought maybe TW10 didn't run because of the need to update. I figured it would only update online so I turned online off. However, it ran the update (i guess it was on disk). Didn't seem to change anything however as after installing the 002 fix it worked fine.

In the future should I avoid updating? Are their games that force updates?

HERE IS A VERY NOOB QUESTION, FOR THE USB LOADER, WHAT ARE THE SPECS ON THIS, MEANING IS THERE ONLY CERTIN TYPES OF USB MEDIA OR CERTIN SIZED MEDIA THAT CAN BE USEED, LIKE CAN I USE MY USB 2.0 WESTERN DIGITAL 650GB EXTERNAL HARDDVIVE TO LAUNCH MY GAMES. DO THEY HAVE TO PLACED A CERTIN WAY AS FOLDERS OR ANYTHING. THEY GAMES ARE ARE IN FOLDERS WITH THERE NAMES ON THEM, OR DO THEY HAVE TO BE IN THE MAIN ROOT, LIKE MY GAMES ARE IN ( GO TO GAMES FOLDER, THEN GO TO GHOSTBUSTERS FOLDER, AND THERE YOU WOULD FIND THE GAME)
