Hey everyone. I'm having a problem with this guide. Everything was going great until I got to this part:
IOS36, IOS60Patched and NeoGamma R6:

Run WAD Manager.

Select A to agree to the disclaimer.

Select IOS version to use: <IOS249> Press A.
Select source device: <Wii SD Slot> Press A.
Go to IOS36.WAD in the list and press A.
Select action: <install wad> press A.

My problem is that I don't have a IOS249 in the list. I made sure to follow the instructions completely, so I'm not sure what to do next. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

If you followed the guide you should have IOS249 (which is cIOS38_rev10a section of the guide).

Try following the cIOS38_rev10a section again. Make sure your not getting an error message when installing it.

I just checked it over again. I did the net install the first time, tried it again, getting this error:

Installing Custom IOS, please wait...
>> install ERROR! (ret = =2011)

llarylje, first of looks like a great tut you made here so thnx for making it. And respect for your answers.

Now my dumb ass questions as i just entered the wii world yesterday.
I read the thread almost completely but still need to ask these (sorry if it upsets you but the kids just got their wii yesterday and hell would break lose if i kill it).

1. I have a updatedb4.1E firmware PAL i geuss ? With model no RVL001(EUR) And Serial no LEF121...... version (belgium version) will this mod work on it, and will i still be able to play pal games or only NTSC ? Or both ?

2. After the mod install, what firmware will the wii have ?? a custom 4.1 or a lower one ??

3. Is it not better installing bootmii before the optional gamecube and other install just to make sure things cant go wrong anymore (backup nand)?

Thnx a million for your help, from me and the kids.

Hi Guykes,

This softmod allows you to play both PAL & NTSC backups (through settings in the loader) and should work for your model. I believe mine was LEH21 (dutch) and it worked out great for me. Be sure to follow the guide to the letter and you should be fine. If you get anything else than the result you should be having, don't wing it but find out what's going on by searching/reading/asking; that's perhaps the best advice I can give.

If you follow the guide, you should end up with a softmodded 4.1 firmware. Getting a backup of your NAND is of course recommended. Personally, I installed bootmii and backed it up first thing after softmodding it.

Hey guys, very nice work on everything, and I'm a noob with a brand new Wii.

My only question (so far) is where can I get BANNERBOMB? I tried the link in the guide and I get a 403 Forbidden error. I've googled bannerbomb and everywhere takes me back to the same link.

TIA

EDIT: I look and looked and as soon as I posted this message I looked again, and found it at the bottom of this site....(for anyone else that needs it)

Thanks anyway.

Hey guys,

I installed 4.1 and followed the guide and everything installed fine. However, I tried three different backup loaders and I always getting Disc read errors and such. I have tried Verbatim and Memorex DVD-R with 1x speeds and 8x speeds. I tried two different games and sometimes the game ID and name pop up but I still get errors. Any ideas what I should try or do?

Ok i'm having a problem and i think it's due to the directions (yes they aren't perfect, very good but not perfect)

I had a 3.4 US wii softmodded using the twilight hack and such, having used cIOS35_rev10.

So as per instructions, I updated my Wii to 4.1 since it was already modded and completed it without a hitch.

Here's where shit hit the fan...

I went back to HBC to install the ios60patched.wad so that i would have everything up to date. To my suprise, HBC didn't work. It would allow me to click the channel but gives me a black screen and the Wii remote doesnt work. I tried both the Bootmii HBC icon and the channel in the Wii menu with the same results.

I then went looking around to make sure i did this right, and according to many many other sites, you needed to install the ios60patch.wad BEFORE updating.... Fuck me right?

So then i tried to reinstall HBC thinking i could just install a new one using BannerBomb, but once i go to the SD card save files, nothing comes up and there is no "Load boot.elf/dol?".

Thinking maybe HBC was the problem, I uninstalled it to try a fresh install. The same problem occurs and now i cant even get HBC to install. I don't have a gamecube controller so i cant use Bootmii to do anything. My WiiGator3 works and all my Wii channels do as well, including the shop and everything, but HBC wont even reinstall and i know i'll need it for future programs and such.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

EDIT:

Well nevermind, i fixed it and it works flawlessly. Now is there a program i can install that will allow me to play DVD movies on my Wii? I've seen a few but dunno which is preferred. Also, can you still use the homebrew browser? This version listed here doesnt include it in the installation files.

Also, That Neo-gamma wad is the newer backup launcher right? Can i install that and use that instead of my WiiGator 3? And if so, how do i deleted the old WiiGator?

The guide is perfectly fine. There are a few that have had your issue and if you had read through the past post you would have read to uninstall then reinstall the HBC. It should have nothing to do with IOS60Patched.wad since the HBC as far as I know is ran off IOS36.

Allot of users have uptaed perfectly fine using this guide with no issue with the HBC. But a handfull have had this issue with older versions of the HBC so more then likley that was the issue.

I didnt say the guide was bad, just not perfect lol. But nothings ever perfect and i fixed the problem literlly right after i typed my big-ass post lol.

I was wondering tho, your very good with Wii mods and such, maybe you could help me with the last few parts of my post. Should i install the NeoGamma backup loader you have included or just continue using my WiiGator3? And Do you know of a decent DVD/mediaplayer app i can download and install using the wad manager? I'd like to watch movies on my Wii :D

You pretty much said the guide isn't perfect and used the IOS60Patch.wad as an example. I am telling you installing the IOS60Patch after updating to 4.1 is perfectly fine and that did not cause the HBC to screw up.

Yes I would install NeoGamma R6.

I don't use my Wii as a DVD Player. I use a cheap DVD Player to play DVD's instead of a $250 gaming machine. So start another thread and ask your DVD aplication question because that has nothing to do with this softmod guide.

Alright I updated the guide to include cIOS38_rev14. I tested it on a few of the newer games and they booted and worked.

Those that want to update to rev14 can download the SoftmodPack again and get the cIOS38_rev14 installer from the apps folder and transfer it to the apps folder on your SD Card. Then run HBC and select the cIOS38_rev14 installer from the HBC menu list.

have you checked if rev14 solve the issue of wii freezing up when changing games in usb loader gx by exiting to the wii menu?

just got everything installed and seemingly working properly, but i just popped in a burned copy of mario kart. it shows up on the main system menu, and i can go to start up the game, but as soon as i do it tells me that the game can't be played and that i have to take it out and restart the wii. is there something i'm missing here?

Also i tried a kingston an a sandisk sd card.
