Format the SD Card to FAT32 (do not use quick format). Since you have HBC installed you no longer need bannerbomb or Hackmii on the SD Card so leave them off. Just trasnfer the SoftmodPack to the SD Card. Then try again.
And for the 100th time YOU NEED A GAMECUBE CONTROLER IF YOU INSTALL BOOTMII AS IOS TO NAVIGATE!

Sorry about the gamecube thing :) couldnt stop myself from asking as the modding scene changes every day.
I already formatted the sd card on fat32 (no quickformat).
Now im doing it again and i will place only the softmadpack like you said.
Again, the same result a freeze after selecting ios35 and pressing A.

Edit: i was thinking if its really a problem with the sd card because i dont even direct it to sd as the source simply select ios 35 press A and the it freezes ??
Edit 2 : in the mean time i used 3 different sd cards on 2 different laptop 6 times the same result ??????
Tell me plaese to set things straight i installed hbc succesfull and downgraded my wii to what now for the moment ?? Custom3.5 ?? so i can understand better what im doing.
Who the hell is general failure and why is he reading my disk ????

I have a korean 4.0u and earlier I get a black screen 002 on every channel I start.
I reformatted my system from the wii menu settings.
Then I followed this thread extremely careful.
But! not all games from my hdd which were my past .isos we're working giving me a blue screen error 002. Using usb loader gx updated.
second, Some .isos that doesn't work with usb loader gx works at neogamma but I wanna launch the game from usb laoder gx and not from neogamma.
third, My SSBB iso. doesn't work anymore, I get a white screen green font error 002 wether usbloader gx or neogamma. I get this error after mario wins over kirby.
my Wii's goin nuts, can anyone help me pretty pretty please? Thanks!

Hi, i have a problem installing the HBC. I have put all the required files into the SD card.
But when i went to the SD card tab under the wii>data management > SD tab. It does not prompt me to install boot.elf
Im running on 4.1 NTSC/J
Much help will be appreciated thanks!

After donwloading hack_mii, you should rename the .elf into boot.elf and insert it in your SD. then on your Wii, you should go into data mngment, "channels", then click the SD card tab.
It should say that "no sd card is inserted". Since you shouldn't insert it first. If you're prompted so, then that is the only time you should insert the card and it will quickly prompt you to load boot.elf? and see "bannerbomb" icon on the background just very quick.

i have a couple questions still unanswered today...i have had lots of sucess with my usb 500gb westerndigital passport with gx loader..
a/ can you back up from usb to pc, (as you would if you would to back up an original the old way threw the internet)
b/ is there a guide to playing rockband games on usb gx loader
c/ any luck with playing house of the dead 2/3--3 works but cant get hod2 to work it just goes to black screen...
d/ and i seem to be having trouble dl some of the new box art again i just updated to rec648.

I got the homebrew channel then i went into DowngradeIOS35, hit that and then i got error message -116 which means internet i believe, so i re connected to my internet and then tried again but it said : "failed to add title, maybe you have already run this".
I have already run this but got an error so i need to redo it?
How can i bypass the error?

I have gone through almost this entire thread to educate myself before diving in. I have a original wiikey installed and has been working fine until recently I got semibricked with a PAL update disc (totally my bad) I have a NTSC wii. First time in 3 years the wrong disc got me. Anyways, I installed the HBC last night everything went smoothly, Everytime I try and run regionfree or anything like that (attempting to downgrade my firmware or reset it to proper region) so I can access the settings to setup wifi then update to 4.0
Is this even possible at this point
All I want to do at this point like I said is get my wifi back up and running which means I need to downgrade my firmware, correct?

Larry,
How can I mod my Wii to send it to space? Had to say that after reading all the posts, loved that response. All I want to know is over the course of the topic I have read the SD card going from Fat 16 to Fat 32 formatting. As of today downloading the stuff needed to do an offline Mod which format should I do? And then the contents of the SD file should they be all dragged onto the SD card or just the SD file itself? And if I mess up and install the homebrew channel or enter a worng item by mistake and screw up with the directions is it a problem to start all over again from the top and will it just re-write itself? Thanks and you have to have the patience of Mother Theresa.

decided to take the plunge and update from 4.0 to 4.1
Surprisingly everything still worked after the update, with the exception of Gamecube backups. Just reinstalled CMIOS, and now they play fine too.
What exactly does the ios60patched.wad do? I've yet to reinstall it, and everything is working so far. Is it absolutely necessary to reinstall ios60patched.wad?

Hey Larry.
I'm a bit of a wii newb, although i've been reading every post on this forum, and a lot of the heebie jeebie.
I am confused about where to start.
I have Nintendo Wii LU64 with 4.0U firmware, that much is right.
It says "Install LU64 Wii fix here" and I downloaded it and then just didnt know what to do. I read the install but Im confused about what to do.
My nintendo wii is 3 months old and I don't have Hackmii or anything at all on it. I have no HBC, and i dont know what most of the things mean and im trying to avoid killing my wii.
Can you just tell me what to do, like click this and install, click this and install, i have an SD card so i can do that, i'm just waiting to hear back from you as 2 people referenced this guide yet im not sure if i should use it cause of the LU64 fix thinga t the top.. or where that comes into play.

VERY BIG PROBLEM AFTER SOFT MOD
Larry I had korean one since 3 weeks and I had an original games I was played with them for 2 days only and after that I make an update
once the update finished no DVDs able to play (all original)
I searched on the net and find your softmod
I followed all the steps typicaly as you said
after finishing the soft mod I left the SD card inside the wii console
The wii console was worked and runs the DVDs again for 1 time only after that I HAD A STRING BEHAVIOUR
WHEN I POWERD THE WII CONSOLE ON NO PICTURE DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN AND THE Wii JUST LIGHT THE POWER GREEN LED THEN HANG !!!!
NO RESPONSE EVEN WHEN I WANT TO SHUT IT DOWN I MUST PLUG THE POWER CABLE OFF TO SHUTDOWN IT
PLEASE ADVICE AS I JUST BUY IT AND USE IT FOR 2 TIMES ONLY
PLEASEEEE HELP

I followed the guide and it worked np...but I downloaded a game ice age 3 and the game will play but with limited to no sound.
Could this be a bad burn maybe?
I have the 4.1u and LU36 starting serial
Also what is the homebrew channel for....I launch the game using the newogammer channel

I have no idea what could be wrong. if it worked fine after the softmod then I would assume the softmod installed properly. You have some other issue if it started acting funny.
Did you install Bootmii before performing the softmod or after the softmod?

Hi
Thanks for this awesome guide. I'm a newbie and it has all worked for me. My wii was purchsed new 2 weeks ago.
I am now playing games through the USB launcher, however i have an original copy of Grand Slam Tennis. When i try to play this it says it needs to install a software update.
If i install this update fron the disc will it affect the softmods (from this thread) i have done to my wii?
Your help is appreciated

as Larry just said, try not to ask game specific questions.
My guess:
Game updates vary a lot among different games. And I thought usb/disc launchers have automatic update skip.
Best try would remove the update from the iso and try to run, although some games need IOSs with new features/versions.
Google the game and check that.

Hi,
The game is an original game (DVD) and i'm launching through the disc channel.
As updates might effect the softmod thats why i placed it in this forum, as updates can be on any original wii games purchased from the shops.
What i'm trying toi ask is if i run the original game through the standard disc channel, the software update it asks me to apply, will it affect the softmod?

To know that you need to know what specific updates the game contains. Some games updates IOSs that will not affect softmods, but I guess some can update important IOSs that the softmod need (like ios60).
Again, check which update the game has: either by googling its name or using a app(I believe that there is Wii and PC versions) that dumps the update part of the DVD.
If it updates IOS not patched/modified by the softmod I guess it would be ok, otherwise you would have to re-softmod the wii.

It wont read my SD card at all, like I cant go into anything when its in, and its in right and formatted 32 with the wads on it.

Evening all,
I finally updated my softmodded 3.4 wii with homebrew and cios v9 to 4.1
I ran the ios60 patch fine, this went through no problems.
I have a problem updating my wii to cios v14
when updating i got the following error
install error ret -2011
strange thing is that after this error is said install complete??? I'm guessing the install didnt complete due to the above error.
Any ideas on how to fix this error or has the v14 cios gone through fine?

Bootmii loads in the hbc I see the 4 options...but can't select any
did I upgrade softmod it wrong?
