Some people have said that the Jungle Flasher tutorial seemed a bit confusing so I am making this tutorial to make it a bit easier to understand!

This image tutorial was created to show you how to read and flash a stock BenQ with Jungle Flasher.

Things you will need:

Jungle Flasher v0.1.64
iXtreme 1.6 for BenQ
Compatible SATA chipset
SATA cable.
PortIO installed (requires 32bit Operating System)
.Net Framework 2.0 or higher
DVD connectivity kit (optional)

Make sure to have iXtreme 1.6 for BenQ in the firmware folder that is within the Jungle Flasher folder so you can utilize the autospoof feature!

If your onboard SATA is compatible, you can skip the steps for removing the VIA driver.

In this tutorial I am using a VIA SATA card with the 6421 chipset.

I have removed the VIA driver from C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers folder.

To remove the VIA driver:

1. Disable VIA card in Device Manager.
2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and remove "viamraid.sys" or "vsmraid.sys".
3. Re-Enable VIA card in Device Manager.
4. Re-Boot PC.

First you will want to check a couple of things.

Make sure the VIA driver is not installed by checking in Device Manager. Notice the yellow exclamation mark.

You also need to have PortIO and .Net 2.0 or higher installed. PortIO is included with Jungle Flasher and .Net can be obtained from Microsoft.

Go ahead and power on your BenQ drive with your connectivity kit or the XBOX 360.
Start up Jungle Flasher and go to the MTKFlash 32 tab. You might have to change the IO Port to find your BenQ.
Once you find it, you should see the properties listed under Drive properties.

Since this is a stock drive, you will want to click BenQ unlock and you should see the following in the picture.
Notice the Flash Chip properties and now the Drive properties says Vendor Mode!

Go ahead and click READ and once it is complete Jungle Flasher will prompt you to save your firmware.
Save your firmware in a location where you won't delete it or lose it!

Jungle Flasher will prompt you to autload iXtreme firmware. Click YES.

This is the result of clicking YES. Jungle flasher will autload iXtreme 1.6 for BenQ and spoof your information over.
Double check your original firmware to make sure you have a legitimate key.

Go back to the MTKFlash 32 tab and click WRITE. It will write banks 0, 1, 2, and 3. Then it will verify banks 0, 1, 2, and 3.
Make sure that it says write verify OK.
At this point you can click Outro/ ATA reset.

Go ahead and shut off your connectivity kit or XBOX 360. Reconnect the drive and SATA cable and test out a Back-Up copy!

I read in a different PDF (for Ixtreme 1.51) that you need the tray half open, is that required for this tutorial? Also, can I keep the power connector connected to the xbox instead of a DVD connectivity kit?

Halfway on the tray is optional. It is just another way to gain access to the flash chip. I plan on adding a troubleshooting part to this tutorial, probably showing the halfway trick and Intro Power cycle.

So I have the 1.51 version, if I follow this tutorial without the tray open it should work? And I would be using the power from the 360 instead of a connectivity kit.

If you are using the 360 power, it is a bit harder to get the drive into halfway.

Go ahead connect the 360 to your SATA on your PC. Power on 360 and load up JF. Make sure your drive gets detected and simply click "BenQ Unlock". It should gain access to the flash chip and you will click "read" to read the firmware. It will load the firmware into source and then JF will want to autoload ix1.6, click yes. Go back over to MTKFlash and click write.

Sounds simple enough. So I will need to get the tray half open? A tutorial I read said to eject the drive, disconnect the cable from the drive and push it in halfway and re-insert the cable to the drive. And I assume you would keep the 360 on throughout the entire process. Sorry for so many questions, this if my first time and I want to be fully informed when I do this.

You don't have to eject the tray. If you follow this tutorial, it will get your drive updated. Even though the tutorial says "stock" it is the exact same process for a flashed drive.

Okay, thank you so much! I will do it without ejecting the tray and should work. Last question, what games right now require this mod? I would like to get one that does so I can do proper testing.

So my last question. If for any reason it flashes bad, can you re-flash it and try it again or are you pretty much screwed if that happens? I can't see anything going wrong as the tutorial and software seems to be easy to use.
Also, I had to go and use my old tower as my new one is a 64 bit processor. Its an HP Compaq SR1250NX, Pentium 4, 2.93 Ghz, 2GB RAM. Should it work if I connect the Xbox drive to the SATA ports on the motherboard?

Aslong as you get your dvd key you can't screw it up. Try out the sata ports on your computer but if they don't work you will need a via 6421 pci sata card, you can get them for about $15.

In the picture you can kind of see the VIA on the chip. But in the comments a user talks about the Mini CD wouldn't install and he had to find drivers online for "VT6421" which is the 6421 chipset.

So yes it should work.

Chris4160 is correct. As long as you have your DVDkey, you can recover the drive. The BenQ supports Bad Flash recovery.

Something like the command was rejected. Could it be possible that he has an incompatible chipset? His is a BenQ drive.
