And as I stated before, the feature of the transfer disk is now on the new dashboard! >.< so if you look hard enough, you'll find that you can do it all in one shot!!! >.< after just checking on my xbox, if you plug your empty hdd into your xbox with the transfer cable and your old hdd into the top, when you goto system menu you'll get a pop-up saying "Transfer cable detetcted. Do you want to transfer content now?" then you have 3 options!!!
Option 1 - Yes, transfer from console
Option 2 - Yes, transfer to console
Option 3 - No
I've said the same thing about 4 times in this damn thread recently and if people read the responses properly, they would see this!! >.<

I had my empty HDD connected with the transfer cable, before I booted up the console. When you boot it up, goto the memory manager and wait a couple of seconds, then the message should pop up. If it doesn't pop up, make sure both HDD's are shown on the device manager and then press the "Y" button on the HDD that's full and that'll let you transfer everything to your new drive.

I did what you said but what comes up in the memory manager when i connect the hard drive is "USB storage device" when i select it it says its only 8gb which should be a 250 gb.
even when i swap my storage drive to be on the cable and the empty drive on the console it'll read the 250gb HD as a normal hard drive and the other 20 gb on the USB as a Usb storage device.. and ask me if i want to format it blah blah blah. So i guess its figuring out how the heck to make it recognize the USB hard drive as an official microsoft HD...which both are. and its an official microsoft HD transfer cable.
i formatted my empty hard drive to remove any crap off of it incase there were any. not sure if that makes a difference.

Hmmmm, that's really strange... o.0 Which USB port have you got the HDD pluged into, not that it should make any difference, but have you tried all the USB ports? o.0 I haven't had any problem using the transfer feature on the new dash, so I'm sorry that I cant be much more help... :-(

When you do it with the trasfer disk, it tells you to plug it into the back of the console, but when I did it the other night, I did it thriugh the front, which is why I said it shouldn't matter. It's really strange... :-S Is your bigger HDD an official Microsoft one or a western digital one that you've made yourself? Perhaps that could be the problem? o.0

no.... its the 250gb hd that came with my console. i bought the special edition splinter cell console.. and i have my regular 20gb drive... i've been just using the 20gb drive until i figure out or get the ambition to transfer my crap to the bigger one. but i called the customer support and they told me some of the 250gb drives were sent out with wrong driver software which will cause it to read as a usb storage device if connected to the transfer cable.... i have to ship it to them tomorrow and they will ship me a new one in a week. so no harm no foul...
thing that sucks is i already ordered another $20 transfer cable that has the official disc and everything.
oh well it'll be nice to own the cable seeing as i just borrowed this one.

I actually missed your last reply above my last one earlier! >.< that sucks that you've gotta send it back, but atleast you've got it sorted now! ^^ I've found my transfer cable to be a great thing to have since I've had my jtag! ^^ it'll be $20 well spent if you get the use out of it! ^^
Anyway, I find it a little bit hard to believe that Microsoft could possibly send out faulty hardware... 0.o <------- Internet sarcasm doesn't work... Lol
Thankfully, I've never had a problem with faulty hardware, but at the moment, all my consoles seem to be dying on me! >.< Wii seems to be packing up, my trusty 360 which I've had for 3 years is dying too... :-( the 360 couldn't have gone at a better time tbh! ^^ new 360 slim-ish! ^^
