No you're right I dont have an x-ray machine like most people on here. If you did look at it with an x-ray and it had reconnected would that not mean that it was a reflow? Any way, I dont know for sure that the solder has resealed but I do know that it works every time on systems that havent been worked on before and for long term. I'm just trying to help the average person on here with a fix that requires a $20 heatgun and about an hour and a half from the time you open it until the time it starts up. That's all people want: a method that works. Who cares what you call it!
I'm just getting you wound up. The mods here are fun to get going. They don't ban by IP and I have 3 other senior accounts LOL. Wonder who else I might be on here?

Hey w00ly, I've had a RROD box lying around for awhile, 0102. So I decided to give it a shot, went to home depot, picked up the wagner 1000 for 22 bucks, 1 minute low on the back, 4 high on the front chipsets, replaced pre existing x clamps to fit your specs also using artic silver 5. It has been up and running daily playing modern warfare 2 now with no problems, almost a week now. Thanks for the quick and easy tutorial!!!

Glad it worked for you :) The 0102 errors are actually the most common ones I see but fortunately they also seem to be the easiest to fix with this method!

Mine worked for about 3 months after this and now I cannot get it to work again. I guess once you do a re-flow. Your Xbox will not work again

Have you tried to heatgun it again? How about your x-clamp, how was it setup? 2 washers on the bottom or drilled holes in the chassis big enough for the screw head to pass through perhaps? Both are common x-clamp fix methods that can create flexing, either up with too many washers or down with the big holes drilled. If you have tried a reflow again and it didnt work you should try a low temperature oven bake next to hopefully remove any warping from the board. It's an effective fix that doesnt require any extra prep work (other than what you normally would do with the heatgun fix). Here's a good tutorial for that http://xbox-experts.com/tutorial/oven-bake/

Me and a close friend of mine were fixing other people's Xbox 360s using the youtube tutorials one night and we found out replacing the xclamps worked but also believe it or not, the penny trick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsz0lNJ6JrQ also worked very well. Each was cheap but the penny trick was really cheap. There's a cpl things you can try out on your own really if youre not into subjecting your console to things like that. But if you want to go the easy and cheap route w/o having to worry about the RROD every again. I suggest them two tactics from personal experience.

I tried the penny fix when I first got the rrod a couple years back and it didnt do anything for me. I guess I could see it working if you have a 0110 (broken solder on ram) but the common 0102s/e74s are related to the gpu/hana so putting pressure on the ram chips isnt going to really do anything for them. Not to mention even if you did have a 0110 error and used extra pressure to try to fix it, the solder is still broken you're just holding it together temporarily

Make that 14 - "gameover9 (banned on 1 Feb, 2010) has used same IP address as 78fordf25 (account created on 3 Feb, 2010)". You'll be easy to spot. You post like a child, and you're only here to advertise your own services. Keep it up, you'll get bored way before the mods do.

Please dont close this thread like the other one creaky. I am not trying to make money off people like gameover9. Why would I tell people how to fix something themselves (and for cheap) if I wanted to do it myself and charge them? Just trying to make a helpful tutorial..

I'm not here to close this one, just here to keep the 'pocket liners' off the forums.

Hi wooley , Thanks for the tutorial and it looks great , I am about to try it but I?m totally confused about the washers and screws , I have two screw types one with a 4mm head and the other is a 3mm head , I have 1mm steel washers and 1mm plastic washers can you tell me the best way for me to fit these , Also do i need to reuse the xclamps as most tutorials say not to , A You tube tutorial would be great if there is any

Many thanks

Use the one with the 3mm head and 1 nylon washer only on the bottom side. Or even better see if you can find the same screw with a tapered head...they have a lower profile and should help you get the 3mm that you need. You can sit the screw and washer next to the standoff and see if it's too big or not. Yours is probably going to be a little taller with the 3mm head + 1mm washer but it may be ok...perhaps dont tighten the motherboard screws down really tight. On the top side use 2 washers per screw. And no, you dont reuse the x-clamp in any way.

Many thanks wooley for your help and time and using your method I have just fixed two machines , Can you tell me where you get your 2mm head screws from and 2mm depth washers as I Cannot find anybody in the uk that sells them , Well not that I have seen yet, All the kits on fleabay seem to have the 3mm head , Also I?m a bit unsure of using these plastic washers I purchased from rs as I?ve heard that certain ones melt , Is it better using the red fiber washers or should this not be a problem

Once again many thanks and keep up the great work...

I get both from a local ace hardware store. They are hard to find though. Home depot and lowes neither one carry the washers I use and only lowes has the screws. Might want to see if you can find them online, they're tapered flat head m5 machine screws .80 x 10 and #10 nylon or fiber washers

I got a couple 360s to repair today and I asked the guy if they'd ever been worked on before. He said they had had the x-clamp fix done before and it worked for a little while but the same e74 came back. So I told him I could probably fix it for him and when I took it home I saw the metal chassis was bowing out underneath where the x-clamps are. "Too many washers" I thought--little did I know how right I was:

That's 5 washers per screw! Waay too many and was seriously making the chassis flex outward lol! He did use the same tapered head screw that I use but I only use *1* not 5 (and it's nylon not metal like these). So yea...dont do your xbox like this kids :)

That looks quite insane!! I'm definitely going to try your method I've done the eraser method and it worked but I couldn't stand it up. I've also done the X-clamp I got the 2 red lights problem but when I put everything back to together it started working but later it just started to freeze.

hi wooly, a quick question , would if be beneficial fitting two nylon washers , One each side of the board then a metal washer on top of the nylon under the heat sink or is there a reason why not to do it , Many Thanks
