There's loads of other options like DVD2One, DVD Rebuilder etc..... Rare though that something cannot compress enough!

daemonzx6, another option is to use DVD Shrink twice, ignoring the "File is too big" error message the first time round.

It works whether you chose the output to be an ISO image or DVD-Video folders/files.
Simply open the "shrunk" image or files and process it/them a second time.
If DVD Shrink cannot compress a DVD or title enough in one pass, I would actually recommend you to "split" your backup to two discs, as the quality degradation might be quite noticeable.
You could either make compilations of episodes using the "Re-author" feature...
http://www.dvdshrink.info/compilation.php ...or make one "Full-disc" backup where you use "Still-Pictures" on some episodes, and a second backup where you use "Still-Pictures" on the others.

Generally BBC discs are pretty much filled completly both layers. They do not compress well as to fit them on a SL disc gets very pixallated. Why not put it on 2 discs, 1/2 on each?
Try either DVD Shrink re-author (no menus) or using menus for disc 1 compress the second half parts to still pictures with no audio, then on disc 2 compress the first half parts to still pictures with no audio.
A bit crude but it works.

Dela had a good idea, now how much did that CCE SP cost?
I think the working man might be happier with Rebuilder and CCE Basic. The difference in cost is in the neighborhood of about $1,950.00. For those savings a person can buy a copy of DVDReMake Pro for about $49.95 to edit out unwanted segments. Great combo and there are threads and guides here on AD.

CCE SP cost me a lot less than that when i bought it and a license for it off an auction site for about 100 euro at the time.
CCE Basic produces pretty much the same quality just doesnt have the advanced features of CCE SP!

Thanks for the added suggestion, Noel, I had forgotten to mention deleting the audio from the "Still-pictured" titles.

@Dela: I wish I could find CCE SP for that price! I used to have a copy, but it belonged to the college I taught at and for some reason they didn't think I should be using their license after I stopped working for them :( On the good side, I learned more about MPEG encoding from that program that I would have thought possible when I started.

Dela,
You are very lucky. Retail for the CCE SP is about $2000 US on the website. The auction price is an exception, most people can't find it for several times the price you paid. Here is the link for anyone who wants to check out the CCE. They do have a trial, but it marks the video output.

So I've been told about the quality. It's those bells and whistles we all love though. At little over twice the cost of basic, it would be well worth it. Maybe I should start checking some auctions. You gave me an idea.

I'd say most people have no concept of what it is. It's not sold by the big retail stores and most people never see the name. It's a big name in closed circles.

Itsa probably the most pirated encoder in the world too i would imagine lol. But Custom Technology's customers would be big firms who are checked regularly to see if they have as much as 1KB of copyrighted material thats not licensed for use lol so they dont seem to be saying anything about the Pirates. Stuff doesnt make it "right" which is why im delighted i got the deal that i got!

I'm sure that's also why they decided to make a good Basic version. I wouldn't use a pirated copy, but I wouldn't buy the old stripped down version that Basic replaced either. I'd still jump at the chance to get SP for a decent price. I really miss having 1 Pass VBR mode, user accessable VBR Bias, and the option to use a custom Quantization Matrix, but on the other hand they've finally added Quantization Characteristics to Basic, so maybe VBR Bias will be added some time, and the others are less important to me.

It is actually rediculously priced though in fairness! There shpould be a business edition and a home edition i think, like for software scompanies buying some software usually costs way more than a home user buying it!
