Jalaperak - I can only assume that you are changing your Ip address on your PC, so therefore your browser can't find the ethernet card as you have changed it's address.

I bought a premodded xbox. The guy says it was hard modded. I used Auto Installer Deluxe to format my C & E drives, then I installed a new dashboard. When I restarted my xbox, it went to the default Microsoft dashboard and now it wont play any burned games and won't even load the Auto Installer Deluxe Program. I feel stuck.
What can I do?
Can I use FTP on the original Microsoft Dashboard?
Was this really a hard modded xbox, and if so, how do I get my new dashboard back on there?

WOW, GREAT INSTRUCTIONS_must have taken lots of work-
yet i have a question- when it says-(In your custom Xbox dash (i.e. Evolution X, Avalaunch, Unleash X etc.), make sure your settings are configured for STATIC)--- do you NEED a dash like that-
because our xbox has a ethernet plug in the back where you can plug in the cable, couldn't I just use that?
Though if I tried then how would i beable to set static???- or is setting the static something you do on the computer>?
i know these are kinda dumb questions- but i need help!!!LOL

SRY-I HAVE SOME MORE STUPID QUESTONS I HOPE SOMEONE CAN ANSWER-
canging it to static is done in the xbox live sector on you xbox- like when you press xbox live and it says troubleshoot and you can enter different things- if so then couldne't i just enter my cors into the back plugin in the back ov my xbox and confugure the ip and dns by goin to the screen where you change them on you regular xbox by goin into the xbox live troubleshoot,
O- let me get this straigh--do you enter that ip as ip and dns- if so- on your computer do you do that or on your xbox or both????
THANKS

Running into a huge problem, Maybe I am overlooking something here. I softmodded my box with Unleash X. I have the Box hooked up to my Network and can Ping it through my Command Prompt in XP. BUT, when I try to connect to the box through FlashFXP or even through Internet Explorer, it wont connect.
Through IE:
Windows cannot access this folder. make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access this folder.
I am using this Address to get into my box-
ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.0.102
Through FlashFXP:
WinSock 2.0 -- OpenSSL 0.9.7d 17 Mar 2004
[R] Connecting to 192.168.0.102 -> IP=192.168.0.102 PORT=21
[R] Connection failed (Connection refused)
[R] Delaying for 120 seconds before reconnect attempt #1
Am I missing something here? What am I doing wrong? Do I need to unlock my HDD in the Box??

Originally posted by PimpDawg: An Easy Way To FTP To Your Xbox
One of the most popular questions in Xbox forums are "How do I FTP to my Xbox?" So I figured I would write the ultimate guide on how to do this as effectively as possible. If anybody has anything to add to this, please post a reply.
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol; this allows you to transfer files from your computer (host) to another computer/object (client). You can use either a crossover cable to connect your Xbox directly to your PC, or a router (both ways are discussed below). When you connect through a router, DO NOT use a crossover cable! Use standard straight through cable. The program we will be using to FTP in to the Xbox is the popular FlashFXP. You can download FlashFXP right here off of Afterdawn, or from here http://teammodders.com/download.php?action=category&cat_id=2.
How to FTP to your Xbox Dashboard using a Crossover Cable
Before I begin, you need to make sure that you are indeed using a CROSSOVER CABLE. That is a huge beginner mistake.
1) Now, you may want to make sure that your firewalls are all turned off, and possibly your anti virus software for the time being. In your custom Xbox dash (i.e. Evolution X, Avalaunch, Unleash X etc.), make sure your settings are configured for STATIC, and change your IP address to this, 192.168.0.3 Also, make the Xbox's primary DNS the same as your computers IP address shown below (192.168.0.4). Scroll down, and click SAVE before you exit that screen!
2) On your computer, go to "Start" "Control Panel" "Network and Internet Connections" "Network Connections" Then right click your "Local Area Connections" and click "Properties" Click on "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and then click the "Properties" button. Now, make sure that the "Use the following IP address" is selected. Type in this IP address, 192.168.0.4 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 Click "Ok" Note: your computer may need to be restarted if you are using an older version of Windows.
3) Reboot your Xbox now, and if your computer is running an older OS than Windows XP, reboot that also.
4) Now, open up FlashFXP and click the lightning bolt.
5) A window will popup as shown below.
6) Type your Xbox's IP address in the "Server or URL" text box (192.168.0.3). Port should stay at 21. If your dash is using it's default settings, your user name and password should both be xbox (all lowercase). Now click connect and within a few seconds, you should see a picture as shown below with your Xbox folders on the right hand side. Now you can transfer files to and from your Xbox!
How to FTP to your Xbox Dashboard using a Router
Before I begin, you need to make sure that you are NOT using a crossover cable, but a straight through cable. Again that is a huge beginner mistake. If you need help connecting your Xbox through your router, Xbox.com has a tutorial on how to do this: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/connect/router.htm Here is a basic picture taken from xbox.com on how your setup should look like:
1) Again, you may want to make sure that your firewalls are all turned off, and possibly your anti virus software for the time being. Also, make sure that your Router is 100% working. Now, connect your straight through Ethernet cord into your Xbox, and the other in to a port on the router. Boot up your Xbox. In your settings in your custom dash, make sure that the "Static" connection is turned to "Off", then scroll down and click SAVE. Reboot your Xbox. Go back into your settings on your dashboard and make sure that DHCP is now enabled, and that you have an IP address showing. Now, it's time to open up FlashFXP...
2) Open FlashFXP and click the lightning bolt.
3) A window will popup as shown below.
4) Type your Xbox's IP address in the "Server or URL" text box (IP address varies per Xbox). Port should stay at 21. If your dash is using it's default settings, your user name and password should both be xbox (all lowercase). Now click connect and within a few seconds, you should see a picture as shown below with your Xbox folders on the right hand side. Now you can transfer files to and from your Xbox!
OK how do you get the mods from the computer to your xbox
Someone plz tell me Newjonyork89@yahoo.com

I know that I need to transfer files like games, apps or emus to the E-drive. But when I do, I cannot find the files in the MS-dashboard. I need the files in the savegame directory, so the game to install Linux (Splintercell) can recognise it. Can you help me?
@above: you need to set your xbox IP to 192.168.0.3, and your PC's to 192.168.0.4 :-)

so many questions asked before me, ill try to include all details possibly needed to answer my question as quickly as possible.
i read on the first page that you can FTP using a straight through cable with a router. but can you FTP with the straight through without the need of a router?
I do not have a crossover cable
and i do not have a router.
I have a softmodded xbox. UnleashX, unknown version (if version is needed i will provide in next post)

ive had some of the same problems for those getting the error messages, but finally got it to work.
Info:
Im running Avalaunch on a softmodded xbox & use SmartFTP.
I set up my computer as described in detail & xbox settings to fit.. (my only problem, is i couldnt change my IP address on my dash, but was able to change it in the XBox media center-> scroll down to settings -> choose network -> then switch the 1st choice in Network to Manual (static), then change the IP address to: 192.168.0.3 and i changed my NDS server to: 192.168.0.4.
Thats all i had to do... also try this if your still getting the error:
make sure you have a crossover cable connected from your computer to your xbox. I usually make my changes on my computer (IP address, no firewall) 1st, then power on the xbox, then open SmartFTP, then type in: 192.168.0.3 xbox xbox (as stated in instructions), and press connect. Then it will take about 2 seconds and im connected and it will say: Idle... then i can go into whatever files (D Drive in the case of SmartFTP, given i have a XBOX game in) and select all the files and right click & select "Download" then make a new folder on my desktop & save. Then it will take about 10 mins or so and ta-da! My game has been backed up. THen i run it thru Qwix and make an xiso.
Try that and see if you have problems, good luck.

no, you can use a straight thru cable if your using a router.
if not, go to EB games or Game Crazy or wherever and get a Xbox to Xbox cable (crossover cable, about $15-20) and you can hook up your xbox directly to your PC.

i haven't done this in ages, but when i followed this tutorial, it worked like a charm. My main mistake was i was setting the IP for the xbox in the ms dashboard...just make sure you do it in the evox dash and make sure you save the settings that you made at the bottom. then just reload it to verify that it went through.
and when you get to flashfxp> for the line that has Sever/Url: put the ip of the xbox there, and the username is xbox and the password is xbox. leave the port on 21. that should do it
