If you have it modded with the Twilight hack, then you don't need a modchip also to play backups.

Just use neogamma to play the backups.

Can anyone tell if this drive is the same as a LG 8162, HP HITACHI LG GDR-8164B GDR-8164 GDR8164B DVD-ROM BLACK

Never mind I found out it will work. Is there anyone checking this thread? I do have a ouestion or two. I used Rawdump and could not find the ISO file. In the read files it says that the files are in the RawDump.exe folder, but I can't find the files. When I go to ImgBurn I can find the files on write image file to disc but imgburn locks up and stops burning. and can't view the files. I'm useing RawDump 2.1. I'm trying a new dump. Can anyone help.

How to creat iso's with your Wii

Install WBFS Manager on your PC
Take a HDD make 2 partitions
- first fat32 4GB
- second rest of disk
Install WiiFlow 1.1 on the first partion
Load WBFS Manager
Mount the second partion
Format this partion as WBFS
Close the WBSF Manager

Connect the HDD to USB port 0 of your Wii
Run Wiiflow
setup
install game
Put a game disk in your Wii
Press ok
Wait a few minutes
Press Done

The game is installed on your WBFS partion.

Close Wiiflow
Connect the HDD to your PC

WATCH OUT!!! DONT FORMAT PARTION 2 (your pc asks)

Open WBFS Manager
Mount partion 2
You see that one game is installed
Press Creat iso
Upload it sow everybody can play it

Have got the right drive, rawdump, nero etc, the right dvd's & spent a night backing up the wii games.

My son has a very old version of the Wii - about 3-4 years old, he got his more or less when they first came out, however I only got mine in Feb this year - a black one too! nice.

I'm not prepared to mod mine or open it etc otherwise it will default the warranty. But my son will allow me to do what is needed on his.

Again, I'm not prepared to open up any consoles. I just want to back up the Wii disc's for the grandchildren to use and preserve the originals.

As I've followed your instructions to the 'T' - I still can't play the copied discs not on my console or my sons.

Any suggestions please.

Nope you can't because you have only prepared the discs so far, not the wii

The wii will have to softmodded in order for you to play your backups

You can follow this guide to install a softmod.link
Then you will be able to play backups either using Neogamma loader, or from a usb drive if you wish even. USB guide

Is there anything new like what DVD drives I can use to back up my new purchased Wii Games?

I know there is:
* LG-8164b
* LG-8163b
* LG-8162b
* LG-8161b

And the GDR-8082N for notebooks.

But is there any more that i should know about? I sold my LG 8164b for C$40 awhile back, I have a Dell notebook now that has a slot load DVD. Is there one that will read my purchased Wii Games but still burn a purchased Wii Game copy with the same drive? It doesn't need to be a Slot load but I would prefer it to be one that I can install in my DeLL But yet still be a Burner too. BTW it is a IDE/ATAPI Interface.

No, and I doubt there will be. Those drives are quite old and have a means of looking at a DVD that isn't in a specific format (like Windows/Unix/whatever) and still being able to pull data off the DVD. New drives are not being built with that option implemented in the firmware. You can still get those drives online for a good price at www.foundmy.com. There are probably other places to buy them (that is where I got mine) but that doesn't solve your problem of needing to do this on a laptop. It seems I have seen adapters that can turn an internal DVD drive into a USB drive on the internet. You may want to see if you can find something like that.

The EASIEST way to backup games is to source one of the LG drives listed, and use RAWDUMP to rip. Sure it takes from 1'45" to 2'30" to backup a game( depending on which DVDROM you buy ), but ive done over 200 games and havent had ONE single fail YET!. And i think the 1.5Tb of games proves that!! The only other way is to use USB Loader or HDD Loader. No HARD modding is required to the console.

Actually there are 3 Programs that can do the job and the timing differs as well.

1. Friidump:
-This is a command line tool.
-It´s the slowest of the 3 available programs.
-It needs around 3.5 Hours for a single Layer Disk with it´s fastest dumping method.
-It has dual layer support.

2. RawDump:
-This is a .NET based tool. Therefore the proper .NET framework has to be installed for it to run.
-It dumps much faster than freedump ~2.5 Hours for a single Layer Disk.
-It has no dual layer support: read my lips! It can NOT dump dual Layer disks.
-Many report that it does not work on Vista & Windows 7 while others seem to have no problems.

3. Hektosoft´s Hektograph:
-This is a Win32 Program that runs on the XP, Vista and Windows7.
-It dumps even faster than RAWDUMP: ~2.1 hours for single layer disks.
-It can also dump dual Layer Disks
-Dumping is just one feature of the tool. It can also burn the images
to disk and allows setting the layerbreak (necessary for dual layer).
-Dumping & Burning of 360 disks with SplitVid is supported as well.
-Audio CD Ripping and on the fly conversion to any installed ACM (MP3)
or WMA codec is also included. It also get´s title names through
FreeDB and inserts them as ID3TAG or WMA-Descriptor.

Best regards
Mik

USB-Loaders are capable of duplicating disks to the usb-drive. That´s what he meant.

I bought my wii afew months ago. I did back my wii up just incase it bricked. I was sucked in on buyong a soft mod didn't know any better.

Sure you can use Friidump and Hektograph, but Rawdump is one-click...easy. And really, the only game u would need the other 2 programs for is SSBB as its the only dual layer game i know of. Just rip the games with Rawdump, and burn with Imgburn, DONE! Im toying with a HDD loader, but seeing my console is Vers 4.3, Im having some dramas with the Cios downgrade...Ive loaded the Homebrew channel, but keep getting an error when loading DOPmii..any suggestions?

You mean SSBS (Super Smash BrotherS). Besides that there are
more dual layer titles: i.e. Metroid Prime Trilogy and Sakura Wars.

Yes you can and you can use a program called WBFS Manager to transfer the games from the computer to HDD. You need to softmod your wii and run a USB loader like GX loader, you can google everything for the downloads and tout's.

Wii D9Pro, XBOX 1.0 120GB, XBOX 360 FW Flash, PSP CFW 4.01-m33-2, DS Cyclos.
