Hi All .... Long long ago I installed an original WiiKey into my original Wii. It has been working absolutely flawlessy for years. All backups worked perfectly. Suddenly this weekend, when my grandkids stayed over, all the backups we tried started "crashing" after anywhere from a minute to 15 minutes of game play (originals continue to play fine). Nothing has changed, the system hasn't moved an inch in years. Has there been any Wii O/S downloads that may be causing this? Could something be wrong with my Wii drive or the original WiiKey? The Wii is for the grandkids (I never use it) so it isn't used that often. Any suggestions would be appreciated from a Grampa who needs to keep the grandkids busy when they sleep over. :)
Edit: The backup disks are in pristine condition. No scratches or fingerprints.

Yes the LG GDR-8082N is reported too work

There may be others, but not reported. One would have to try I guess.

Burn or backup?
Any burner will burn Wii .isos. The 8082 is the only one that I can confirm (I have 2) will backup.

Thanks everyone! It sure looks like LG cornered the market on this one. Is it the laser, chip or something else?

Hey everyone. And Thank You ahead of time for your help =). I just bought my Wii. I also bought DriveKey Mod chip. I installed it just fine and all the orginal games work. I can't backup my games myself so I download them. The first 2 I have done is Smash Brwal and Super M. Galaxy. The Smash one is like 8.3g and the Mario Gal is exaxly 4.3. Neither work. They are both in Iso. format and I burned them both 4x/Image-Burn on a Memorex DVD+R DL and neither worked I figure the Smash was a bad copy but the Galaxy had to be a good dump so I went and bought Memorex DvD-R. And still no luck. Is it just a bad dump for the game or am I doing something wrong. I just get the black screen saying Error has ocurred please reset the wii..

It's not "cornered the market". It's a mistake.
The LG drives have a firmware "hole" which allow software like Rawdump and Friidump to read the non-standard format of the WiiDVD.

That´s not correct. The firmware of the LG drives is neither a mistake nor has it a hole. The feature that allows reading Wii disks is a set of intentionally implemented commands whose main purpose is for debugging reasons. These debugging commands (which are vendor unique and are reported just to a selected audience) allow the access to certain data parts which are necessary for the software to do the decoding stuff. In principle all DVD drives could deliver 90% of the necessary data. The special thing about LG drives is that the debugging commands allow access to the remaining 10% which are necessary. To be clear about that: the software does the main job (the decoding, the error checking etc...), not the drive.

Yes the new Wii's can't be moded as of now you must check the data base with your serial # to confirm what drive chip it has installed. D3-2 is waitting to be hacked. You can still load homebrew on it and USB loaders to play games from a usb hard drive or flash device.
Wii D9Pro, XBOX 1.0 120GB, XBOX 360 FW Flash, PSP CFW 4.01-m33-2, DS Cyclos.

Yes, they can be Softmoded but they just cannot play Backup discs.
Games from USB or SD work fine.

I have excatly the same problem, but I installed the cyclowiz V2 about 3 years ago. I have about 30 backups that always worked fine.
the wii got boring so no one used it for about a year.
I just tried using it and the backups that load ok but as I play them i get a disk read error. if I pop it out and put it in I can continue playing the game.
I have been reading the internet for info on this problem and I read in one post that some software up dates that happen when you install a new game in the wii like "wii fit" changes the speed that the dvd drive runs so if you burned the backup at 8x and the new wii software is running the drive at 6x the wii won't read the backup very well.
I checked the wii firmware and it is 3.1U
the last upgrade happend when I installed the "wii fit"
I think the cyclowiz people are out of business.
so I am thinking I might have to remove the cyclowiz and install a new mod chip.
I am just guessing about this....if anyone knows about this please post it
Thanks

Help please, I just ordered the 8163b drive and followed instruction on the first post. When I went to install netframe the option was Repair or Uninstall so I chose Repair. When I click Start Dump I get a pop up error message
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the appplication will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immedeately.
I appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks

Give Freedump or Hektosoft´s Hektograph a try. Both
tools run well on the 816x drives without the .NET framework.
Best regards

Actually I got it to work. I uninstalled and reinstalled Netframe, insert the game first and let the drive stop, then open rawdump and start dump.
I have an off topic question, I'm having issue configure my Dolphin, I cant get player 2 to work with the keyboard, player 1 with keyboard is fine. Can someone point me in the right direction/forum topic?
Thanks
