safest bet is a note book cooler,....uummmm the fans in back of the Xbox are the exhaust right, then blowing air on it is a bad thing....

more like these
http://search.ebay.co.uk/NOTEBOOK-FAN_W0...mZR40QQfrtsZ150

but be ready to replace them in a year if you get the cheapest ones, the ones that are 20+ tend last longer and have USB ports on it.

acuatly with it laying flat and the fan base cooling the bottom it will dissipate built up heat and knock off a few degrees of heat, this is the best option out there other than taking the top off the 360 :P

i would not recommend using that... seems really weak... and you have to EXHAUST from the back... so if you DID get it (which i think there are better options), you have to blow the fan AWAY from the back of the 360... you only blow air IN on the intake vents on the side of the 360.

Ya even with the extra cooling the 360 is still fickle, as for the price drop even at 400 its reasonable for what you get,I would really like it to be 300 with the 20GGB HDD but at least its not 600.... when Sony puts the PS3 to 400-480 MS might drop theirs 50-100.

with this lil device I shall get finally get a 360 when the new chips come :P

see that is probably hot, but 2 things i don't like about it:

1. It'll be an unfair advantage for those who have that over someone with a controller... especially in 1st person shooter games
2. I don't want to have to by it when i start getting upset about other ppl owning me with it. I was originally a half-life/counter-strike player before i got the 360 in Jan 2007 and got addicted to GoW.

thats a myth, you will always have thos that are bad good and skilled no matter if you add KB and mouse or not in fact it would even the playing filed forcing the good and skilled players to paly more with their equals and to fully balance it out make the severs only let in thos of equal skills...something they do already.

Zippy, in all honesty, I would ROCK HOUSE with a keyboard and mouse... as opposed to the stock 360 controller... as it is I'm fairly good with the controller (not to be conceited).

I've been a gamer for yrs... I know for a fact I would destroy with a KB/Mouse, but that's too easy for me.

I'm sure soon enough the anger will kick in from ppl kicking my ass with the KB/Mouse adapter, so eventually I'll probably hop on it... hopefully , I won't have to... :)

well for me its about control over control, most games have a limited amount of configurability ,with some of the adapters you can at least move buttons around some, also with a mouse you can counter odd or bad auto aim setups.

I got Halo 2 xbox and a xbox this year abotu 8 months before it I had darkwatch and timespliters 2 had no trouble with them but god halo 2 has awful controls and the sheeple just eat it up,so in order for me not to lose my mind and counter lacks deving I need a adapter.
:P

well i gotta admit... i wish the ROLL button and the STICK TO WALL button for GoW wasn't the same button.

And no one uses the Y-Button, so they should have made that one of them... or at least we should have the option to separate the ROLL and STICK TO WALL.

Do you play GoW? That's pretty much the only game I play these days... I'm the type of guy that gets glued to one game for about 1-2 yrs then moves on...

I have played it enough to confirm its not a sucky 3rd person shooter :P

I don't have a 360 but have played it some,I do wish devs would realize that button mapping for console games will not bring about the end of the world....

So anyway my xbox 360 is cooled by the Antec Notebook Cooler, and a 4" Desk fan for intake.

The 360 froze FOUR diff times today... twice within a few min of power, and twice an hour later within a min of Hosting a game in GoW. Each time the 360 wasn't on for more than a few min.

So I placed the power brick elsewhere cool, and still no go.

I finally got desperate and came up with an idea. I do computer freelance work on the side, so I have a lot of PC fans. I took a 92x32mm CPU fan (pushes about 55cfm), and put that IN ADDITION to the 4" Desk fan as intake. I then placed TWO 60mm computer case fans as exhaust on the back of the 360. I then used 3-pin to molex adapters and hooked all 3 computer fans together... then powered them with an external hard drive adapter's power adapter (uses molex).

And wallah... those fans fired up super load and blasted air like you wouldn't believe.

I played the 360 for roughly 2 hours on split-screen 2 player mode and hosted a full 8-person server... NO ISSUES AT ALL.

Can you say SCREW MICROSOFT??? If I didn't have this type of knowledge, I would have been screwed.

Now the thing look so darn ugly b/c of the rush work I did... this is so retarded.

Ya but the question still remains what came first the fail rate of the nyko cooler, the more I read abotu the over heating issues of the 360 the more I think the nyko cooler has nothing to do with it,and yes the fail rate is from a design flaw in the 360.

i got the red ring of death the other day... and did the towel trick to fix it, but the damn unit freezes ALL the time now.

I've been cooling my 360 with a 4" deskfan blowing into the intake vents, and an Antec Notebook cooler for MONTHS...

WHY after all of the EXTRA cooling that I do does my 360 still freeze... maybe it's a PIECE OF CRAP... that's the only explanation.

Right now I added a 92mm CPU fan to the intake on top of the 4" desk fan... AND double 60mm computer case fans (high cfm) in the rear to exhaust and STILL it freezes.

I doubt most ppl have the cooling I do... so this comes to the conclusion that even with great cooling the damn thing can freeze b/c it's crappily manufacturered... cheap components and cheap solder is what I blame, as well as cheap engineering for cooilng.

thats just how flawed the 360 design is,that or you got a worser built unit, about all you can do is get another one and cool it without opening it and hope it will last.

ya i was mentioning about cheap solder on a diff forum...

i did the towel trick again, but didn't turn it on yet... i let it cool down with some fans i setup, and tonight i will open up the case.

i'm gonna run it caseless with more fans blasting on it to see if it helps. it's my last hope.

And if it does make a difference, then I'm just going to watercool the damn thing (already have most of the parts to do so, but it'll take time to set it all up.

on top of that i'm wondering if i should put epoxy around the CPU and/or GPU. what do you guys think?

well just so you all know... i'm finally able to use my unit without freezing... FINALLY.

Before I did what I did in the pix below, I did the towel trick for about 45min, and then let the console cool down for plenty of time to ensure the solder was solidified. i did the mods below hours after the towel trick, but i'm sure 20min would have been enough to let the case fully cool down.

It's sloppy, but hey it proves a point since the unit doesn't freeze @ all now.

The Cooling:
60mm fan on the CPU heatsink. 92x32mm fan on the GPU heatsink. Antec notebook cooler below (you can see USB plug... I just plug it in to turn it on. PSU (Power Supply Unit) has a 4" desk fan at the intake vents. As for the console's DVD Drive, I swapped the stock SATA cable with a PC sata cable (since the stock is a few inches, and I needed something longer). You can see the DVD player is on top of my digital tuner box.11

ugly as hell, though, right?

it's a shame that this is the only way it works.

last night the console ran 3 hours strong... it hasn't lasted that long in a while. i played GoW w/my brother for about 90min, and then my other brother came home from work and played another 60-90min.

:)

i'm thinking that the 92x32mm fan on top of the GPU heatsink is overboard, but all i have is that fan in the 92mm size... all of my other fans are high cfm 120mm, regular 120mm, or high and low cfm 80mm.

i may set up two 60mm fans in a push-pull on the CPU heatsink... i think i can make those fit inside the case if i close it up. i feel like the greatest problem is most likely the GPU cooling... it's so low-profile b/c of that damn DVD drive.

i do have all the watercooling gear i need to cool this thing, but i'm hesitant to do so b/c of all of the hard work and modding involved.

if they had an all-copper GPU heatsink with a good heatpipe design, i bet that could fix a lot of problems. does anyone know if there are places selling after-market heatsinks for the 360?

if i do that, i could then cut out the fan grills in the rear of the case, and place higher cfm fans back there. i could run all of this power off of the 4-pin plug next to the rear exhaust fans (i think)... i will check with a DMM if they are 5v or 12v fans... i hope they're 12v fans.

check the label on the 360 fans they have them somewhere,it says 7V,5V and such I am pretty sure its 12 tho.

Ugly? it looks pretty to me I have my computer layed out on a rubber mat on a table :P,who needs a fcking case!
