Thanks for yr feedback; you're the one that peeked my interest in both the quality of using both DVD-RB w/ CCE-Basic.
I cannot use CCE-SP (v2.70) since, according to their site, designated OSystems are 2000/XP and I have 98se, which I am comfortable w/ as of now.
My main problem doesn't seem anyway related to CCE-B, but is an "error 5" just assessing/executing DVD-RB (v0.70). I had mentioned in a previous post that I may not have Runtime Basic (either v5.0 or v6.0) and if that might be the source of the error.
If I can't even get into DVD-RB, I believe (?) I can't
direct CCE-B to do its magic. I've been just .exe it to see what it's about.
Can you help please on 'error 5' w/ DVD-RB??

Thanxs,
RRG

You will need to upgrade to XP. Shrink is set up to work with 98, but most apps are no longer set up for it, though they say they can operate on it. You can try the 2.7, but I don't know if you'll continue to get errors. I wouldn't keep hammering at it if it fails after being sure it's set up properly. So far, you haven't set up RB/CCE properly.

http://www.cinemacraft.com/eng/download.html#pro
Obviously, you aren't finding the same page I am. As I said, you can not use the CCE Basic Trial. The only trial one can use is the SP to work with RB. Get the trial, you have to go through some sites and apply for a temp acct, but you get there from the link above. Get all the components (the right ones) and put them together according to Vurbal's guide. Also, pay attention to the Readme file that comes with the RB for any setup changes. Do that, and then if you have a problem, include the configuration settings from the RB folder.

I believe that I asked you the same question several posts back. Are you using a retail version of CCE Basic?

There was no mention of eclCCE for the older SP trials and he wasn't sure of the serial numbers which is a required purchase for CCE Basic Retail. If he has basic, that only leaves a trial. The link he supplied is a dead link at visible light. I tried it. Most of the companies selling CCE are now downloading the latest versions, 2.69 Basic and 2.70 SP.

The trial only allows for three minutes of encoding. I wasn't sure which version he had. He'd mentioned that he had 2.65 which he later said was an error on his part. Then he said he had 2.69 which is the current version and so I asked hime if he was using a retail version but he didn't respond to that either. I think that you're probably right that he's trying to get a trial version CCE Basic working but he hasn't conceded that info yet.

Tell me about it. I think that this is the longest thread in AD's history and I started right at the beginning, and like you said, it hasn't been easy.

What would you say if I did (indeed) have a retail/registered version of CCE-Basic v2.69.01.10; would you still help ??
Would using Win98se, as I do, be the root of my problem ??
Should I just start from beginning once more ??

Note: I used the guide from an AD link, which I believe is taken from or is "Vurbal's guide" to a tee. Also, used the .TXT readme file assoc. w/ DVD-RB .. its a really simple guide; have no problem w/ following these instructions.
I guess if there's no clear answer, I'll revert to Clone/AnyDVD or possibly migrate to XP eventually.

Thanxs for yr attention/help.

You have enough RAM and the CPU is fast enough to use the XP. So for the sake of utilizing the newer software, I'd say upgrade at the earliest.

As I said, post your configuration settings from the RB program folder. The name of the folder is "rebuilder Configuration Settings". It's a notepad folder with a little gear icon on it. It opens in notepad, just copy the contents in full and post them here.

I see no folder called "rebuilder Configuration settings" as you descibe (unless hidden). Used Start/Find w/ rebuilder, configuration and settings as separate keyword searches.

I can't even access/execute DVD-RB (Run: or double-click .exe), so possibly folder has not initiated itself. 'Run-time error 5' is all on Desktop.

Move to XP is probably the best suggestion; was hoping to at least try it, as w/ other programs. Will copy what I have and test next time I travel to nearby relative.

Thanxs again; believe its just something minute, but possibly fixable. Too much trouble/waste of time for you or I. Appreciate it.

The file is not hidden. If you setup the program and entered the settings you would have created the folder with the RB.exe. As the directions state, name a folder something like DVD Rip and then extract the RAR folder dvd-rb072 (or the version you have) into that folder. You would have the yellow oval icon with DVD/RB on it. There would be "rebuilder Text Document", rebuilder Configuration Settings, and a folder named Skins. The Configuration Settings appear after the first time you set up the program. You create a shortcut for the yellow exe file and send that to the desktop. I even have a copy of Dgdecode.dll stored in there. So, it would definitely not be hidden. All you need to do is open up the folder wherever you installed the RB. Sounds like you're still having setup problems. BTW, don't worry, we have a lot of time. Then again, it's time and money on your part. I'd hate to see you waste that $58 dollars you spent on the CCE Basic.

You were talking about the exe file. That is the file you extracted into the folder you created. Double click the yellow oval icon or select open to open the program. The only access to it is to open the folder or create the shortcut as I stated. Having a desktop shortcut makes the most sense, otherwise, you'd have to open the folder every time you wanted to use the program. If you are having that much trouble, there is a self opening version of RB at the RB forum site. I'm sure one of us might be able to find a link if you can't set up the folders manually.

Its no big thing; I sure as heck would have enjoyed using DVD-RB w/CCE-B, especially on LOTR .. returned to Clone/AnyDVD combo till another day.

I did one last download from doom9.com; http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Vobtools/dvd-rbv070pr.zip

Deleted old DVD-RB folder (under Programs/DVD-Rip) and extracted folder (again) to DVD-Rip. Only two files were formed .. Rebuilder.exe and Rebuilder.txt. Skins folder formed later when I tried to execute using Start/Run/Browse to RB.exe file. Still getting Run-time Error '5'; I don't even access the program .. no set-up, no configuration setting folder .. nothing. Left previously formed Folders for AviSynth v2.55 and CCE Encoder Basic intact. Never did see the point of focusing on CCE-B till I could attain access to RB .. unless they're inter-twined from initial .txt setup. Have the plug-ins, also, in the same place as you stated .. one under AviSynth/plugins and one spare under RB w/ files.
There are only three files in RB now .. .exe, .txt & Skins.
Getting late now, past 1am (cst); don't bother w/ it unless you find it a challenge of somekind. As far as the CCE program .. its only money. I'll try at my relatives home XP and see if its just some small .dll file I'm missing w/ Win98.

Get some sleep or you'll be really cranky/miserable.
Best,
RRG

What happens when you open the RB.exe file in the RB folder?
Quote:

That I don't understand. You should have a desktop shortcut created to start the RB. Double click the desktop icon and the program opens. The first thing is to get the program set up properly. Sounds like you have the RB in the right spot. Now you have to set everything and then recheck it. Where is the AviSynth folder located and where is the CCE Basic program? Give the path in the form C:\xxx\xxx.

"What happens when you open the RB.exe file in the RB folder?"
As previously posted, I activated the program right from its location .. which, as you know, can be done by several different means .. double-click on .exe icon, right-click/open, Start/Run/Browse to program.exe and as you mentioned, establish a short-cut straight to prgm.exe icon.
The later of the choices seemed secondary to me, as I was just trying to achieve getting the program to open so I could setup 'per' the AD guide and RB.txt document.
As you asked, these are the file strings to each program:
(Root Folder: C:\Program Files\DVD-RIP)

C:\Program Files\DVD-RIP\DVD-RB (v0.70)\Rebuilder.exe
(Files: Skins, .txt)
C:\Program Files\DVD-RIP\AviSynth 2.5
(Folders: Docs, Examples, plugins; Files: gpl.txt, Uninstall.exe)
C:\Program Files\DVD-RIP\Cinema Craft Encoder Basic
(Files: cct2.com, cct2.exe, cct2.hlp, cct2.pdf, history.txt, license.txt, uinst.exe)
And lastly,
C:\Program Files\DVD Decrypter
(Folder: Sounds; Files: DVDDecrypter.exe, Readme.txt, uninstall.exe)

Plugin mentioned by you and Sophocles was placed under AviSynth\plugins.
The root of the problem seems tied to something I, most likely, am missing from my Win98se OS which is probably causing the "Run-time error 5". Wish it could be just a simple .dll install. I've installed OS's on other Systems before, so I'm lost to why something so minute could be causing this. Believe I installed everything for DVD-RB/CCE correctly per directions/guides provided.

Its most appreciated yr help. Would like to enjoy this
terrific combo of programs .. especially on <80% compressed processees.

How are you ripping them to your hard disk? Windows 98 will only allow a maximum of 4 gigs and few movies are that small. The only way to get around that is to rip and encode on the fly and your system better be up to it if it is to succeed. since Windows 98 cache effective about 96 megs (its application dependent) that isn't enough to process on the fly. Get a copy of Win 2000 or XP and your problem just might be resolved.

I noted that 4Gb limit during execution of Decrypter, but it processed anyway. I laid them on my patitioned D:\ (13Gb) drive and viewed them waiting for further processing. If that was the limit, it should have failed, right?
I chose the File selection under Mode; that's not on-the-fly, right?

Your last comment is probably the best solution to take; though, thru a Google search I found the author of RB mentioned in version history a correction to Win98 (RB 0.55b), so one might think that many others have no trouble using it. But, for reloading my OS again, I would be better served by just moving to a more current Win OS.
Just hope I can keep the intruders out; yes, I know.

Thanxs,

"RB's" host is an online friend to many of us. He gives a lot of his time to assist in using and to correct using RB. If you continue to ask your questions and stay here long enough jdobbs will pop-in and provide you with as much assistance as can be provided with the info you've provided.

You still haven't said what version of CCE you're using, retail or trial.

Thanxs .. and I do appreciate the info provided, but I don't want to 'wear-out' my welcome.
It seems like 'so-much' one can do before its time to move on.
I do believe somehow/someway its as simple as a single file or *.dll that is interfering w/ the RB load.

Reference the version of CCE-B; I had eluded to it and my registered copy last night w/ bbear. I also downloaded and unzip'd the trial and could see the difference. I listed the files contained (re: above post) in response to bbear; it should match-up w/ what you have, right?
Just to confirm .. how big is yr *.exe file for CCE-B?

I also downloaded version 0.69 of DVD-RB, yet I believe it may be a waste of effort.

I'm just guessing here, but I'd bet you're gonna continue to have problems until you upgrade to XP. That and making sure you don't use a trial version of CCE Basic.

I saw something about 13 GB, what is the size of your hard drive and how much free space do you have? What is the model and brand of PC, type CPU and speed, RAM, and hard drive and free space? What drives and what is the configuration and what is the OS? We already have part of that info, but it would be nice to have it all listed in one spot. Include the fsb info if you know it. So far, it appears you have enough system resources, with the possible exception of the OS, to run the program. However, it could be slow and with RB, making it slower can be a nuisance. Machines with twice the resources of yours often require about 3 hours or more to do a backup of a DVD.

Me, I have none of BigO's godly powers. LOL I'm just making sure the setup is correct. That way when RitekRG does get a setup where RB will work, at least he has that much of a headstart. Even in 98, the app should run for a while before encountering a run time error. Too bad RB 72 isn't available to the public yet. I know for a fact the SP 2.7 trial works well.
