Now this IS interesting. I bought some Datasafe 4x G04 from UKDVDR.co.uk they were £1.09 each and I beleve the problem I have been having with writing. Bought 50 and I reckon 10-15 are now coasters. The others were fine. However just bought 20, from the same company, Arita 4x G04 @ £1.07. They are silver matt with a semi transparent type surface and you can see ARITA clearly in silver gloss. The write surface is our fav purple. So far so good 10 written no errors.

I know this is USA for me, but I got a batch of media sold as Princo, but ID'd as maxell. This is in the NYC area computer fairs, and had a failure rate of >50%. They appeared slightly different than the usual Princo 1x disks which I previously had great success burning at 2x with. I brought them back to the vender at the next fair and he refunded me for the half; said other customers had complained also. So it's here in the USA too.

What do you mean they didnt work ?
What at all..? Or was they burning okay but giving errors on playback ?
Yes CHOICE DVD-R are pretty crap , I prefer to use RITEK G04 DVD-R (X4)
Lastly , you need to add web address for source of image in your sig...
Peace

Thats an auction page... the reserve hasnt been met and belive me if I could buy them at 10p each everyone would be buying them... they arent a bad disc but their not Ritek .. the manufacturer of the goallover discs are Postech and they have named the "Postech GO4" to try and cash in on the popularity of the the "Ritek GO4"... people are understandably confused by the name. I have tested some of the goallover discs - they are good but they are very hard to get hold of because Postech is only a small factory.

I prefer to use a [Grade A] Ritek G04 DVD-R x4 for PS2 back ups (and DVD-Video)
Is worth paying a few pence more in my opinion ;-)
I normally order from http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk
[The purple tops being my fave of the moment].

Im also new to DVD Burning having just bought a pioneer 106. Ive had cd burners for the last 5 years and had no probs with disks ever. Now ive entered a new era with DVD, the more i read about quality of disks there grade's ,colours and compatibility, the more confused i'm gettin. Everyones says this disk or that disk etc, could we not just have a compatibility chart on the forum which is calculated by peeps votes and experiance...... Just a thought...

I've used 0ver 80 of the Goallover disks and ran tests, They are indeed comparible to Ritek (G04- dark purple) in terms of quality and compatibility. So far I have had no coasters buring on a 106, 104 using Shrink and Nero 6.
There is a company who are now the main dealer for them now in the UK and they are selling them for 70p in 25's.
They are www.digitalpromo.co.uk

I tested Goallover and found them to be average to good in terms of RPM tests, re-reads, data transfer and errors. However, why bother when generally they are only a few pence cheaper than a decent Ritek disc.
Ritek will supply the retailer with a certificate most likely, the chances of an end user recieving them will be quite slim though i guess.

i also like the idea of some sort of disk chart :) i'll start it off with "CHOICE DVD/R 4x" - the British judges give them nil Points

I've just tried Sumvision Premium Grade A Discs, man they are good discs. Also tried some Leaddata stuff and they seem good. Had some gold top ritek Sumvision discs paid £0.90 for them and they are brilliant not one problem.
Has anyone else tried them yet??? I think I may have stumbled accross some good discs at last. I have had all the others Orange Bulpaq, Princo, Choice etc and I really dont rate them. I dont know if its my writers as I have a NEC, P106 and a MSI 8X. ( I do a lot of copying).

I think whoever owns the brand datasafe got too greedy and start messing with the quality. I think I better stay away from the Datasafe brand for a while.

Datasafe is the Brand. They own Datawrite and a few others, their premium brand being a Datasafe disc with Ritek dye. However, although it is listed as being Ritek Grade A, its not manufactured as Ritek, and i doubt they would feel it is up to the same quality as their own brands: Ritek, RiDATA, Traxdata and Arita (though not as good quality as the other 3).

I don't think datasafe is a ritek dye even if it is I think it goes through a batch of grade A's and B's and also C's. You get one good batch and then you get a very bad batch, then after that you you get in between. Then they change the colour ie like bulkpaq (I think bulkpaq is from the same company too!!!) Theres too many out there to use but its on preference and also the firmware on your writers!!!
Some of my writers don't even like Princo discs and after I do a firmware update its fine just a bit of a hassle with all the updates!!!

There are substandard Grade B,C,D media available that are factory re-jects. Best bet is to stick to the branded media. My preference at the minute are Ritek RiDATA discs. They are great and cheap as well.
SCS+ Datasafe use various different dyes, Ritek being one fo them, but they also have princo ones in stock as well.
