Hi fergie130
You are doing way too many steps here. Just use RipIt4Me.
Here's a guide.
Turn DVD Region Free off w/ using RipIt4Me or DVDFab.
By ripping w/ RipIt4Me and then again w/ DVDFab you're also using up alot of disc space - like 14 gig then Shrink saves the compressed file too. No need to rip 2x Shrink will use the files from RipIt4Me.
So check how much hard drive space you have free.
Run a disc cleanup and defrag too. Also run a registry cleaner like ccleaner. Use the issues and cleaner option.

Post MS and AnyDVD update crashes. (AnyDVD ver 6.0.9.7)
DVDShrink works ok ONLY after removing and re-installing. Arrrrrrrrrrrrr. AND then only for a few times. It has worked flawlessly in the past but it seems super pissy now.
What is this RipIt4Me? Works well with dvdshrink, no?
Thank you in advance for any advice you may have for my pea brain. The computer crashes continue and I swear I burn out brain cells every time!

@kitty66
Yep RipIt4Me works great w/ Shrink. (link above)
Shrink can be pretty cpu intensive so pc may need a bit of maintenance.
So see my post above for some things to do.
Also no multi tasking when running Shrink and close any unneeded programs.

Hello, Thanks!
I downloaded the ccleaner as per your rec in earlier posts to others. It seems to help. Still can not get Shrink to work. I have had success using the Ripit4u with shrinkto5 then Nero, but it stinks. Way too much work. I was in heaven when AnyDVD did it's thing with DVDShrink.
I am trying to use AnyDVD to write to HD right now and am going to try to install DVDShrink again post ccleaner and heat issue prevention. I have listed my updates, etc in the Crasha Crasha Crasha thread.
But I am begining to expect that your explination of registry gunk combined with physical gunk/heat to the processor. It would explain the randomness of the failures.

YOU ROCK! Thank you.
The ccleaner and modified position on the laptop to allow very cold air into the fan!!!! Worked great. I am running all the MS updates and the latest AnyDVD. I did, however rip it to HD first. Next one I will try to just use AnyDVD on the fly per usual.
I expect it was mostly the ccleaner, as the shrink ran much much faster bit rate and compressed in record time. Go girl.

Not a problem kitty66 :)
Yeah when the registry gets all junked can slow things down and cause conflicts.
Good the tool to run - ccleaner.
Defrag is another good thing to do - at least weekly. Ripping dvd's really fragments the drive.
Ah laptop - not known for their airflow :) Try a cooling pad too - I use one on mine and does help.

Good to know, I will start that protocol. I had no idea dvd ripping caused such frag issues! Thanks for the heads up.

hmmm here's 2 more - make sure you have the latest directX from microsoft - 9.0c
Go to run - type in dxdiag - your version will be listed there.
Or shut off the preview option in Shrink. Go to edit>preferences>preview tab. Uncheck 'enable video & audio preview'

Still having problems? If you are using AnyDVD with it they updated to a new version 6.0.9.9 it has been working well. I had problems with the previous version.
When did the prob start? Are you using a laptop? Per bink's suggestion I have purchased a cooling pad and it is performing much better.
Good luck, I hope your problem has resolved.

Hi fergie130 - I have been trying to keep up with your ongoing problem and it has never been mentioned what operating system you are using and what is the DVD burner? With hyperthreading and 512 memory you certainly have enough going for you there. Could it be your hard drive isn't big enough. Everything wants to default to C: - and you might have too much stuff on there. With one of my computers, I had pretty much the same stuff happening to me and I uninstalled Shrink, re-booted and re-installed Shrink. That cured the problem on that PC. I run two instances of Folding @ Home on my main burning machine and with them running - I still burn back-ups all the time. Only failures I have are the rare problem with a scratched or dirty disc - and that ONE problem with AnyDVD. Jack

Maybe I need a new hard drive could be something inside that im not seeing i reinstalled DVD Shrink and will try to use it for Lady in the water if it crashes I will let you all know, but if you have anymore suggestions please let me know! fergie do yourself a favor and spend some of that Christmas money on an external 250 Gig USB Hard Drive. I don't like to assume, BUT- I "assume" your OS is Windows XP, and that by itself is around 2 1/2 gigs. Two 30 gig's makes no sense to me - how old is this Computer? If you bought AnyDVD (and keep it up-to-date), and your using DVD Shrink (I still use 3.1 on one of my boxes) and Nero 7.0 you should have no problems. If - and I have this funny feeling - your still using Windows 98 SE - We need to start a new thread and see what will get you going. Jack

fergie130,
Are you using the ripper function on the DVD or are you doing it on the fly. The structure problems the studiosa are now putting on the DVD's will also cause the crash or reboot. When using the ripper function make sure you use the FixVTS option also.
If it still crashes then can you take the side off and see if all of the fans are working properly. If this is a laptop then you will need a coolpad. Windows after it reaches a certain temp shuts the computer down so there is no damage to the computer. You just might need to add more fans

My os is windows xp service pak 2 maybe i have something in my computer that is conflicting with the burning process when i use ripit4me it works without a hitch, but when i use dvdshrink to compress is when it crashes real strange. I have to burners one made by sony the other by ide. So any suggestions? oh I even tried 1click dvd and that crashed? Do you think it could be the harddrives?

fergie130,
When you use it and it crashes is that after using Ripit4Me or is it when you use Shrink by itself??

RE: Fergie's issues:
This is sounding more and more like a registry issue. My next step would be to run the cclean after uninstalling DVDShrink, then re installing. I am not educated enough to provide manual registry fixes, but perhaps someone else here can.
What do you guys think?
Also AnyDVD updated again today (6.1.0.0 a few fixes listed)

fergie130,
What you are experiencing is the structural errors that the studios put there on purpose. The reason Ripit4Me worked is that it used FiXvts to correct the structure problems. Shrink by itself cannot correct this. That is why you need to run the ripped movie through either FixVTS or VobBlanker as both correct those problems before you use Shrink.
So this is the order you need to do a movie in to be safe:
1. Rip the DVD to HD either using Ripit4Me or DVDFAB Decrypter or the ripper function in AnyDVD
2. I use VobBlanker here as it is more powerful than FixVTS but either program works fine
3. Then you use what ever burning program you normally use

The only version of Nero that doesn't autoburn w/ Shrink is 6.6.1.4. So you're good there.
Like Car.Mike said if Shrink's only crashing when used by itself and not w/ something like RipIt4Me or AnyDVD then it's just the copy protection it can't handle.
Fearless has nothing special on it that Shrink can't handle - Lady in the Water does so you'll need more than Shrink.

Hey everyone just to let you all know I used ripit4me/dvd decrypter/fixvts and that works fine no issues there after the ripping is done I try to use DVD Shrink and it crashes so i used Nero recode 2 which works well still don't know why DVD Shrink crashes though. Only one issue with Nero I backed up dead mans chest and that came out fine but when I did Pulse the 1st half of the movie played fine until I got about 3/4 of the way then it started skipping bad any suggestions?
