Hey fergie130
Since recode handled it but Shrink still crashed sounds like you have a conflict somewhere. Did you check your DirectX version or try disabling the preview video option?
For the playback problem - what brand of discs are you using? Burn speed? One last question ;) - make and model of burner?

fergie130 - For what is is worth, the disks I use and I use them for business and pleasure/backups are from Rima.com ( sorry for the plug but I have bought well over 5,000 disks here and never have a failure unless it is my fault ) Prodisc DVD-R 4.7GB, 8X, Shiny Silver, 100-Pack
Code: 1750-100 Price: $26.99 - I currently have a loaner Sony burner that I used to build a new computer - and it is a 16x, and it is going back as soon as my dealer gets his new shipment of NEC's in. I burn at 8x. Only thing I used the sony for was to load OS, Drivers, and software. Actually just used as a CD player. LONG LIVE NEC. Jack

@fergie130
Just to add to witenoiz's advice
Definitely drop to burn speed on those to 8x like he said.
I mainly use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. But I usually buy the Taiyo's at supermediastore sometimes rima.
Imation uses different manufacturers and not always good ones. So switch to better media. For instore Taiyo look for made in Japan Sony or Fuji.
What's the model # of the Sony? You burner may need a firmware update too.

Actually Superman doesn't have much on it - just the old css protection.
You don't need to open the case to find the model #. Just go to 'my computer' right click on a drive and click on properties. Go to the hardware tab - the make and model will be listed there.
Might be a good idea to post a failed Nero log.

I just used AnyDVD and CloneDVD or Recode.
I'm thinking something is up with your pc. The encoding process can be pretty intense on the pc. Whens the last last time you cleaned out the case? Or is this a laptop?
Or like kitty66 suggested you may have a conflict somewhere.
What are the specs on the pc? Right click on 'my computer', click properties then general tab. Basic specs are there.
Try the trial of AnyDVD & CloneDVD - 21 day trial. You can get it from

hey binkie7 I will have to get you the information but like you said I think there's something wrong with the computer as well a friend of my is giving me a cd that wipes out the cpu totally. Then I'll reinstall windowxp and start over. I'll keep you all posted I tried doing a scanner darkly with ripit4me then Nero recode and it restarted my cpu but then I tried 1click dvd with dvdregion free+css free and it worked(movie only). So I do believe there's some technical issues in the cpu.

@Fergie!
AND everyone having intermittent freaky dvd issues. Did work now does not type of thing DVDShrink (and every other program that compressed) was crashing every disk I tried. GREAT SORROW!
Try this Guide to delete and reinstall the driver for your burner. It will take you through the deletion process and win reinstall of driver/hardware, just a few clicks and reboots!
So after everything I have tried, reinstalling the driver works! All compression software now right as rain.
Hope this helps someone!
