I am using, successfully, DVD Shrink + Imgburn for many movies and for those that won't rip I run through DVDFab HD, then Shrink then Imgburn. It is working great for me now on two different computers with Vista. (I only do this for movies I have purchased in original shrink rap from legitimate dealers as a protective backup or for use by my grandchildren. Those under the age of 50 should only try this with a parent or great-uncle by their side. Your mileage may vary.)

:)
Make sure you dont talk to strangers unless your parents say they wont molest you, and always say your prayers and eat your vitamins.
Seriously tho DVDFab is the way to go with free programs. I think enough updates and workarounds for Vista have been issued by now that anyone with an issue and google can figure it out.

I have been having a lot of problems lately also, I just got my computer a couple of weeks ago and it has Vista Home Basic. I installed my copy of DVD Shrink 3.2 that I have on an external hard drive, and I started to back-up a movie, well I realized that I had to download Nero and I did, It worked fine for a few days, now I'm getting the weirdest error message:

Firmware is the info that is downloaded into the burners and kept on a chipset. It basically tells the burner how to properly burn the different Manuf. blank DVD's

I am also a new member. I do not know whether your problem has been resolved. However, after I got my new computer with window vista, I've got the same problem just as you mentioned. Since I have no one to ask, and I know too little about computer, I have to play around by myself. I found that all I have to do is: when I got an error message, I uninstall the DVD Shrink and reinstall it again and it will begin to work and encoding without any problem. However, it will work for only once and you'll get the same error message again if you want to continuously copy another one. All you need to do is to uninstall it and reinstall it again and it will go back to work for another "one" operation. I already got use to this stupid method and I'll keep on doing it until DVD Shrink has a newer version supports Window Vista.
I do not know whether it will help but try it.

I don't have any problems with the DVD Shrink software. But I Know a Couple of ways to solve the issues u guys are getting with it
There is an easy solution to dvd shrink problems.
Method 1
1) All you gotta do, is go to the main exe file in C:\Program Files\DVD Shrink.
2) Right click on it and open properties.
3) Press on the compatibility tab, and tick the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and choose your compatibility e.g. XP etc.
4) Press "OK"
Method 2
1) Do steps 1 and 2 mentioned in method 1 above.
2) In the same compatibility tab tick the option "Run this program as an administrator" This means that whenever you run it, vista automatically starts the program in a compatible mode e.g. XP etc.
3) Press "OK"
Method 3
Go to this site and download DVD Shrink and re-install:

Hi everyone!
Okay used to use dvd decrypter/shrink/nero combo.
Had XP
new laptop- guess what- vista.
all kinds of crazy problems.
first of all I had upgraded to the latest everything. everytime I did it I'd go put in in my dvd players and in one player I just got an error message saying T1. the other player and also in a friend's player the movie would just start in the middle of the movie. I couldn't get it to the start, no matter what. So I downgraded to everything I used to have thinking that one of the upgrades was the problem. Well I can't tell what the problem is b/c dvd shrink is giving me a problem.
You know where it says "backup target" well I can't get it to go to my burner drive- it only says either "hard disc folder" or someother stuff about ISO. there's no option for my burner. I tried uninstalling it and re-installing it but that doesn't work.
Ack I'm so frustrated!
Any ideas on these problems?

Send it to the ISO image and put it in your document's folder, then after transfer open document folder and right click and use software that came with computer. I just burned you've got mail with Roxio software. Good luck. I was ready to take computer back.

If you have roxio, why not use it. It's been a while......
Have shrink produce an ISO image file and save it to your hard drive. Right click on the .iso file and choose open or burn to disk (can't remember which one when using roxio), this should automatically run roxio's burning application, choose/click Disk at Once, the destination/burn speed/finalize the disk and wait for the process to complete.
Try this

Did you find the way to solve it? I have almost the same problem. Each dvd movie that I burned says T1 on my dvd player and that's it. It doesn't play the movie ! Any solution ?

When I had Vista (I downgraded to XP), I never had a problem with DVD Shrink. I used DVD Shrink + DVD Decrypter + AnyDVD.
Note: Windows Vista has many compatibility problem's and the program that you are using (I'm guessing Nero?) may not be compatible with Vista. It's one of the benefit's of using Windows Vista.

Have watched this forum thread with a kinda interest as my monies have drifted away as I've tried to tackle Vista .v. the world. Spent a few bucks doing it so be careful. At end of day there is only one solution .... well three...for consistency.
DVD43 > 1 Click DVD Copy 5 > img burn
Then you will regain have what you lost b4 on windows XP with DVDShrink etc. Quality and consistency is even better. In all may cost you but not more than $60 if you do it carefully. Also, read the guidelines for each software and post up if you have a problem.
Never gone back on a Windows release before but was within 48 hours of doing exactly that. All because I like backing up my DVDs for pete's sake. PS DVD43 runs in background so no worries but switch off 1 Click before you open imgburn or you'll get an extra week of strife......

Garmoon..
I'm not sponsoring DVD43 mate (although find its now good on those newer DVDs with corrupt UDF) - use different modes of decryption for various things ... professional and personal. Combination suggested is only a fix for the problems guys & gals like me were having here with Vista ..... works 100% without any problems.

I didn't mean to sound condescending. You're one of the first I've seen to say something good about DVD43. If it works for you then it's good. I've never tried it. To each his own.
