Ok...so I have been using DVD Shrink for a very long time now and never had a problem before. I just upgraded my PC to Windows Vista. Ever since then I have been unable to copy any movie. Everytime that I click on Backup I get this message:
Fatal Error
We are very sorry, but an internal error occured.
Please re-install the product to fix the problem.
Error-code: 1/-3/9000
See Doc#5305
Now, I have tried to re-install the program but still end up getting the same error. Does anyone know how to fix this problem???

nran2005-I believe this is related to Nero. I you have not upgrade to latest version do so now or save has image and burn with imgburner. A good way to see if this is the problem go under preferences and uncheck burn with Nero then hit backup see if continues or if you still get the same error message.

It's going to be a hoot watching all the "I can't do this with Vista" threads in the future. The problems are just beginning to show up.

I have used DVD Shrink for a couple of years or more. We just purchased a new desktop with Vista Ultimate. I downloaded shrink, re-installed Nero, etc. just like I have been doing for quite some time. I have tried two burns now, and both failed. I went back to the old laptop with the identical programs and burned with no problems. So, smirk if you want to, but it seems like quite the coincidence to me. Ideas?

There are people using Vista not having problems although that doesn't mean everyone will be problem free. If you have an older version of Nero, even an older version of Nero 7, you likely will have some problems. Given a choice, I don't think I would upgrade. The DRM stuff they've written into the Vista OS to reduce HD playback resolution on PCs is enough to make one sick. Give the software people a chance to hack the beast down to size and get the bugs out before going to the next best thing from the Dark Force of Microswish. JMHO of course. In the business world, we don't update the OS for quite a while after it's available because we know it's going to be unstable until the masses locate the serious bugs. Even then, unless the OS offers significant advantages over the older OS, we don't upgrade. It's just too costly and causes giant headaches to IT support. There are still quite a few companies using Win2000 and even some still using Win98.

I had no problems using DVD Shrink with an updated Nero 7 on Vista RC1 just about a month ago. I haven't gotten my non-beta software in the mail, but everything worked fine with the pre-release software.

So all in all DVD Shrink does indeed work w/ the most recent versions of Nero 7? Is there any discount on upgrading to Nero 7x if i already have my serial number to my old xp Nero 6x version?. I recently got a killer laptop w/ only draw back being that its had vista premium home.Im just trying to save some money. Is there another scenario i can use with Vista. I have AnyDVD already. So what are the best free tools compatible w/ Nero for a good backup? THANK YOU

bahgee,
Use ImgBurn. If you use Vista you have to upgrade to the latest version of Nero for it to work. You can also use Vista in Compatibality mode for the program if all else fails but you need to be on the computer as administrator
Edit: If you have Nero 6 I think you pay $49.00 to upgrade to Nero 7.

bahgee,
Use Ripit4Me to rip the DVD to the HD. It incorporates a program that corrects the DVD Structure problems that come w/ the newer DVDs. It then automatically brings Shrink up and then after you figure out what you want to keep it will then burn w/ ImgBurn. If you use the ripper function in AnyDVD I would strongly suggest that you next use FixVTS or VobBlanker to correct the structure problems. Then you can either use Recode or Shrink to compress the DVD

thanks car.mike. Ill give that a shot w/ vista. Ive been reading alot today on slysoft. I may just add clonedvd2 to AnyDVD and call it a day. Figure ill get Xilisoft or Intervideo to convert seperate dvd chapters/tracks to individual mp3s or acc files to make audio cds or mp3s for ipod and car. Thanks so much.

Im playing around w/ my new laptop which unfortunatly has vista. The setup for shrink wont even run. I was attempting to go the ripit4m, decrypter, shrink route to image burn. I am in admin mode and under the application set up their is no compatiblity tab like in most exe's, to make it xp compatibility. Perhaps im missing something obvious, but has anyone downloaded shrink and were unable to run the setup.?? Thank you guys 4 any help.
I have Vista Home Premium by the way. Serenity NOw!!!

Im sorry car.mike and fellow after dawners. I fixed it already changing the DEP settings in advanced system settings- performance- settings-. choose only to have DEP work with Windows. 1st option. Also as stated above once you get the setup - goto properties- compatiblity- set to windows xp and set it for admin. I went ahead and set it for windows xp compatibility and admin for all users. DEP gave me a headache. So far so good.

Well I loaded up Nero 7 Ultra and grabbed the latest updates. Then loaded on DVD Shrink. So far I've tried 3 movies with DVD Shrink and they all give me the "invalid dvd structure" message :(
So time to re-read this thread and find out what I can get to work with Vista x64 and my light scribe dvd burner.

paschal93 is correct. Use DVDFAB Decrypter to rip the DVD to HD 1st and then use Shrink

For those having problems, a great alternative to the old way we all used to copy dvds is available, although not free.
I currently use:
-AnyDVD (runs in the background removing copy protection and most anti-copy measures)
-CloneDVD2 (Rips & copies entire DVDs or just parts like dvdshrink did)
-Nero 7.8.5 to burn.
This combination works flawlessly on all 5 computers in my house, which include XP, Vista Ultimate x86 and Vista Ultimate x64.

Using DVDFab, Shrink and Nero 7 Ultra I got Smokin' Aces to backup but not Curse of the golden flower (odd errors while burning).

jhenry896,
You need to D/L DVDFAB Decrypter HD: http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
Now rip the DVD to the HD and then use Shrink on those files to compress the Files to a DVD-5
Make sure you run all of the program as Administrator
