Any easy way to open the battery? No guitar picks, and I'm just making small holes with the small filer end of a nail clipper. I don't think that will do anything but damage the battery and shock myself in the process.
:(

Hey, after you do the stuff with the PSP battery, will it still power up your PSP normally? If not how can you fix that? Also does the battery have to be asony one, or can i get this $10 off of buy.com? And...is there by any chance a way to do this without opening your battery?? Maybe a software or something you can get on your comp. (like: the totalnewbi thing...)
THANKS!!! (I'm new at this so don't kill me if i do anything embarrassing)
PSP!! :):):):):):)

2GB works fine. I'll edit that.
Your battery will work when placing it back together. Only if you do it correctly. It must be the old Sony batteries because the new onces are patched. And no, you can't do this without opening your battery. You can buy the Datel TOOL battery. It's in JigKick mode. All you need to is make the stick.
@Anto
Thanks! I'll replace the old picture with this new one.
EDIT: OK, I've put some paint on it. Is that the 5th pin?

So, how do you place the battery back together? Could you put that on the tutorial? Thanks!

Just use the kind of knife that you eat with, or use a really hot penny. Put it over an iron board and iron it for a few seconds BE SURE NOT TO MELT IT, then use an oven mitt and slide it over your PSP battery. It works really well.

Alright, I got it open (not too confident how it'll perform once put back together, though).
I have what looks to be the same battery as the small picture on the first page (not the first post, as that looks to be a different battery). Now which one is the 5th pin? It says the bottom right, but there's no real specification on which pin this is...
EDIT: Ugh. I found out which one it was, and just tried to clip the pin out. Ended up ruining the battery, I think. Score a point for the dumbass who didn't have the tools to solder. Is it possible that I could just purchase the Datel Tool battery and that would also solve the problem of not having another PSP with custom firmware?

Your new image on the first page doesn't seem to point to the fifth pin, it looks like there is a circle around solder joint 21. I believe the 5th pin is located on the IC04 chip.
Other than that every time I see the making of the pandora battery the image looked like this.
 So, something doesn't make sense.

Thanks Carp, would it be OK if I placed that image into my tutorial?

This was awesome, too bad I had to trash a $40 battery to use it. No motivation to really keep it though, since it sticks out. The newest Daxter pack PSPs are 3.71 so you might need this if you don't know anything and hardmod a battery. I suppose I have a kit for my one friend's still Sony FW PSP (the MMS is universal).

This guide was mainly created for Slim users.
FAT user could use this too, but there's not alot of OFW PSP owners anymore. Maybe 20% of PSP owners has OFW.

Wait, so if I get the tool battery, I cant use the files on the memory stick from the Total Newbi Installer? The guide says "If you don't want to open up your battery, then you can purchase the Datel TOOL battery. The battery is bright red/orange and is in service mode(Pandora). You just need to create the MagicMS yourself"

The TotalNewbi Easy Installer actually creates your magic stick. So, I'm saying that you'd still need to make the MagicMS. I'll edit that now :)

Um, I think you can just place the pin back - I don't really know, sorry.
To cut the pin, use a knife or something. I wasn't prepared for these questions... I'll do some research when I have time :)
